Detroit Mayor’s Former Lover Pleads Guilty

December 2nd, 2008

Christine Beatty

Detroit mayor’s former lover pleads guilty. Silent through months of a sex scandal, the woman whose relationship brought down former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick broke her silence Monday, according to the Sun News Service. She shed tears as she pleaded guilty, the news service reports. Christine Beatty, a former aide to Kilpatrick, accepted a four-month jail sentence on obstruction of justice charges for her part in a lawsuit brought by two police officers, according to the news service. Beatty’s jail sentence will begin Jan. 5. With credit for good behavior, she could be free in about 100 days.

This is such a sad story. I had such high hopes for Kwame… a young black mayor of a major U.S city. Black people, when we are in key positions in politics or Corporate America or wherever, we have to keep our noses clean because they are always going to be people who don’t want to see us succeed and those who will stop at nothing to knock us from our posts. We must not be complacent. Kwame and Ms. Beatty got complacent and felt like they were invincible. NO ONE IS INVINCIBLE. Unfortunately, two families and an already struggling city were the victims of this scandal.

Honestly, no one is in the position to judge Ms. Beatty and Mr. Kilpatrick . A lot of us get “caught up” in relationships that we should not be in. Theirs just happened to be adulterous, but there are many relational traps that we’ve all fallen in. I”m not condoning what they did, but we don’t need to be so judgemental.

Deelady,

Excuse me but…Yes there is a need to be judgemental, people need to be called out for inappropriate behavior especially when it affects more than just them. Black people have to work too hard to get half what other races get so when we are in these types of positions we must be about our business and get our “freak on” after hours and not use “the man’s” property if we want to keep our job, our self respect and our reputation. We do not have the luxury of “white privilege” to save our collective azzes when we mess up. The unemployment line is already crowded with black faces why add to it for nonsense?

It is time to wake up PEOPLE! I say people because both men and women will sacrifice their family who will usually be there for you through thick and thin. As Aretha Franklin once sang “Ain’t no way”-that I am going to prison for not even one day for a man. I DO NOT feel sorry for her, she is sorry for herself right about now, she knew he was married, had kids and from what I understand even she was married and you both didn’t respect your families. As an after thought, I bet she realizes that it wasn’t even worth it, more importantly he wasn’t worth it. Lady, or shall I say homewrecker, ask for forgiveness, move to another city and try to pick up the pieces of your life and even though she might not want to hear it, you owe the Mrs an apology.

i wish we as a people would learn for our mistakes. we cannot do the same things that THEY can do and get away with it. i dont feel sorry for these 2 one bit. sistahs should be more prideful. no man on this earth is worth my career! just like no man is worth my child & family (ie jennifer hudsons sister) are we so desperate? dont believe the hype. i know our men & media & other cultures may not say we are beautiful but what do we say of ourselves? we have got to do better!

dee Said on

Shannon I do agree with you far as that Kilpatrick is really the home-wrecking ……….because he was married. But guess what she WAS married TOO!!!! Her husband lefted her after he found out about the affair!!!! They both were wrong!!!! Now she too has time to think about what she did. I bet they are not sorry for what they did BUT…..sorry they got caught!!!!!

justiceforall Said on

how many people did the mayor and girlfriend hurt while they had this affair, not just thier families but also the honest working people who believed in this mayor, they need to go after all corrupt people we elect into office, however, most of them never get caught doing a lot worst.

Sad, sad, sad,

Deelady, many people are in position to judge in this particular matter. The words “Do Not Judge” in the Bible has behind them a comma, not a period. Do you get it Deelady? Read the entire verse, not just the part that says “do not judge”. Having said all of that, if Kilpatrick had simply said, yes I have had an affair outside of my marriage, my wife and I have talked about it. That’s all he owed the public in this matter. From there he should have pled the fifth. But his arrogance took center stage.

WHAT ABOUT THE STRIPPER THAT WAS MYSTERIOUSLY MURDERED BEFORE SHE GOT TO TESTIFY THAT SHE DANCED AT A PARTY AT THE MANSION? WHO KILLED HER? AND WHAT WAS KILPATRICK’S ROLE IN THAT? DID THE DETROIT POLICE DO IT?

Be joyful, just because you can. Spread genuine joy to others, just because it feels grand. Smile, just because it is so easy and pleasant to do. Act with integrity just because it keeps you on the path to true fulfillment. Offer a kind word just because it can have such a positive impact. LIFT up those around you just because you feel connected to all that is good. Life can bee quite complex, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Yet, many regrets are painful, we have to learn from what we’ve come through and move forward.

Unfortunately you can tell people all day everyday not to be judgemental and they are still going to do it… This country was built on people pointing thier fingers at other people and acting like thier ish dont stink! And even if you have never been an aldulterer or whatever, you have done something. There is no such thing as a perfect person. Some of us strive for perfection on the inside and some of us strive for perfection on the outside… But unfortunately in my opinion, it’s the suferficial black hearted people who do trifling ish daily that are always the main ones pointing thier fingers… As for telling black people to wake up…ha! We’ve been barking up that tree since the 60’s haven’t we? Some of “US” are unfortunately doomed to a life of complete ignorance! But the good thing for them is that they don’t know thier ignorant… Ignorance is bliss after all…..
