Education, Housing Remain Challenges for New Orleans Families

December 6th, 2008

NOLA

Education, housing remain challenges for New Orleans families. Over 30,000 former New Orleans trailer home residents found homes paid for by the government after Hurricane Katrina. But the funding for shelter runs out in March and recovery is lacking in many areas, city and local officials say. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has promised help for survivors in finding permanent residence, but hasn’t even begun the effort in Lousiana, according to reports. Among other recovery concerns are loss of schooling among youth and higher rates of illness among young Katrina survivors.

I was born and raised in New Orleans and when i go home to visit….it’s just not the same. I go to all of the places that i frequented and they are just don’t bring the same happiness and joy i once knew., and it really breaks my heart. New Orleans was so much fun and now it seems crime ridden and the politics are horrible. I moved my mother from there and i’m so glad she is with me here in a little town in Texas called Euless, it’s my home now. I will always Love New Orleans, but only God can make things right again. Let us pray………………..AMEN

I want to say What the hell does O.J. have to do with this story. I will pray for the survivors and we need more people to get involved with helping these people get the help that they need. They need a voice for there cause.

David, Katrina was not racist, it was a act of nature. However, the way our govt. responded to the crisis was very “questionable”. I was born and raised in New Orleans and still live in New Orleans and guess what??? I see things that are “questionable” everyday. Rasism is still alive and well in New Orleans.

It is very simple– they say why rebuild the city that had so much crime and too many blacks. I live in Baton Rouge, LA and I think that there are whites in comtrol of this issue and that they are trying to rebuild New Orleans the way that thewant it. Now I think that is not the way it should be and many people are suffering because of their ill-actions. What goes around will surely come back to you. If its good than you will get good, but if its bad than you will get that too. Much Love my NO residents keep your heads up.
