Four People Charged In Little Girl’s Drive-By Killing
July 8th, 2008Police say that the Salt Lake City shooting was the result of a gang beef.
Three youngsters and an adult have been charged in the killing of a 7-year-old girl who was gunned down while playing on a sidewalk outside her Salt Lake City home on Sunday. Police believe the girl was caught up in the crossfire of rival gangs. Arrested were Frank Benavidez, a 20-year-old; Gabriel Magallon, 17; Mae Johnson, 16; and Tiona Vigial, 16 – all booked into the Salt Lake City Jail on suspicion of first-degree homicide. The young victim has been identified as Maria Del Carmen Menchaca, a second-grader at Riley Elementary. Police say that the girl was playing when somebody fired a gun from a passing Black SUV. They say that Benavidez was driving the SUV. One of the juveniles was aiming his gun at another juvenile, fired a single shot and hit Maria. The Salt Lake City Tribune reported that “Minutes after the shooting, the victim’s relatives ran beneath police tape and struggled with officers as they gathered outside the home. Many shrieked and fell to the ground upon news of the girl’s death. Her body lay on the sidewalk, shrouded by White fabric panels set up by investigators.”

what the heck is wrong with people these days all they ever wanna do is kill and when asked they think that there is nothing wrong and why because they have no hearts and its sad that a little girl only 7 had to die because of some ignorant fool not even thinking about other peoples feelings and how they just tore another family apart and now because of that you can bet that we are gonna hear about some other shotting in that area and when we ask why yuou know what htey gonna say “revenge” and let me tell you it aint worth it and coming from some one who has lived that life i mean my daddy will be in prison for hte rest of his life for crap like this so if you want revenge the best kind you can get is to keep living and let it be done with adn to remember and love that little girl more than you ever did
That’s beyond messed up, can’t these guys at least aim right??? What the Judge should do once those guys are convicted, is to give them their guns back, send them out to Iraq, so they can have a shoot out with them!!!!!
Enough is enough. This unnecessary violence has got to stop. We are losing are babies to this nonsense. We have got to do better as a human race. May God bless that baby’s soul and peace be with her family.

Totally UNNECESSARY!!! This is getting ridiculous…we have got to find better things to do for/with our children…after school programs, have them join bookclubs or something. It seems that they are getting younger & younger & dying sooooo much more faster than the elderly. There used to be a time when we only heard of our elders passing away…but now we’re losing our babies? Come on people… lets get it together…

What’s the point in being in a gang if all you do is fight and shoot people!Come on people think!!!! JUST PLAIN STUPIDITY!!! And when you go to jail you want to cry.YOU WANT TO BE GROWN LOOK WHAT GROWN GOT YOU.
My prayer is that God gives you strength through this difficult time. Weeping only endures for a night but joy comes in the morning. The bible declares to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Just know that your little angel is in the presence of the Lord Jesus. God Bless You.
I am so angry right now I just wish I could honestly say what I want on this site but I have to keep it civil and without cursing but right now, in my head I am going off. I wish these young idiots would find better things to do with their time. Let’s try sports, getting an education, read a book, play video games, be a kid instead of a criminalistic thug. Our community needs to stand up and teach these children how precious life is. It takes a village to raise a child, what happen to that?

As a mother my heart goes out to this family. A child playing and minding her own buiness. You know what i say when people committ these terrible crimes let them go over seas if they have nothng better than to do with their lives. We are killing one another we need more prayer

Its absolutely sick is what the hell it is! Karma is real and just as they will pay a price here on Earth so will they pay a higher one in the afterlife. Its a pity they lost their minds and soon after their souls! My prayers to the family of the little girl. “Que dios la tenga coronada de gloria, amen.”
The problem is that these teenagers are literally getting away with murder because they are young. They like to use their age as a scapegoat. Times are changing and the rules for teenage offenders neeed to change. If they are going to act like adults and commit adult crimes, they need to be trialed as adults.
I am sick and tired of seeing teenagers getting away with crimes just because of their age.
