As a life long resident of the city of Detroit, I’m just plain tired of hearing about this. If he lied while under oath then he should be punished. Kwame seems to take two steps forward then one step back. He has done good for the city but at the same time he is an arrogant a$$ that does what he wants.

As for “jus sayn” wondering about anyone calling for the resignation of Bush and his ilk, there has been a long time campaign to get him out of office but alas, it doesn’t get much media attention but that is the beauty of the internet, you can find many things that mainstream media never covers.

We’ll see tomorrow morning if Kilpatrick pleads guilty or not.

I am very disappointed in the Mayor. He was a young, black man with a lot of political support (especially due to who is parents are) and he was in a position to take the city to new heights and instead he did the opposite. I believe that what goes on between him and and his wife is between him and his wife, until that starts to effect the interest of the citizens of Detroit. He had the opportunity to admit his guilt even before this went to trial and instead he committed perjury and cost the already struggling city millions of tax payers dollars. Everyone talks about what he has done for the city , but what many may not know is that a lot of what has been done under his leadership was already in place before he was elected (ex. the casinos were approved to be put in, the housing projects were torn down and new condos were scheduled to go up before he was ever in office). His promises to improve city parks and playgrounds for the kids was never fulfilled, the city has seen more job cuts, and the public school system has been jeopardized under his leadership (although the state had a little to do with that as well). I have had the opportunity to meet Mayor Kilpatrick and personally I like him, professionally he needs to step down and he owes the city of Detroit an apology to start.

Brandy is exactly right! Many of the good things that happened in Detroit were already in place before Kwame took office. Since he took office numerous parks, golf courses, schools have closed and been sold. He tried to sell our interest in the Windsor-Detroit tunner. Residents are being charged for city services, too many citizens and seniors have lost their homes due to taxe burdens, and the citizens’ tax dollar s paid for his coverup!

I, too ,have met and interacted with Kwame numerous times and he is a very personable guy. He just got caught up in his arrogance and surrounded himself with the wrong people/advisors.

The mayor of Detroit should have his day in court and be presumed innocent until proven guilty. The press has already performed the role as the judge and jury and made him guilty before his day in court. What bothers me is the feed back I get from White people who do not live in city but all they want to do is take over the city’s water board and complain about having to pay high water bills. We don’t need to lose our focus, we need to look at the big picture. If were cleaning house lets start with the Detroit city council, and realize certain members have their own hidden adgendas. We know there are bigger crooks on that council alone and getting rid of the mayor will open the door for ” the take over” of Detroit.

Kwame I hope the best for you but I still think you were wrong with your actions and now the city of Detroit will have another scar that isn’t fair to the tax paying citizens of Detroit. I feel empathy towards the citizens as for Kwame and your family I hope that at some point you see your mistakes and own up to them.

You know, some of your comments are very ignorant and contrite. Many of you that are not from Detroit and many of you that live in Detroit have forgotten the big picture here; A BLACK topless dancer that danced at the Mayor’s mansion was killed. Shot 18 times with a weapon calibre similar to Detroit Police standard issue. She was killed AFTER either the Mayor’s wife or his girlfriend caught the woman dancing at the mansion and then, beat her with a baseball bat. A second dancer was also killed after she fled the state for her life.
Under the “hiphop” Mayor’s watch, the homicide investigation of this dancer (Strawberry as she is know) was ordered to be dropped by the Detroit Chief of Police. The veteran homicide detectives that kept up with the investigation were not only fired but had to relocate due to death threats. Dancer or not, she still belonged o someone.
The good Mayor not only signed off on her life, he also placed a re-election billboard featuring his family’s photo atop the last club that she was regularly employed. Shear arrogance.
As far as praying for the family, the Mrs. didn’t seem to mind driving a Lincoln Navigator paid for by the financially-strapped citizens of Detroit. She seemed to like the travel too.
So unless you have lived there, you don’t know. As a father of three daughters, as far as I’m concerned, he has not been punished enough. I hope that now the FBI will light into the Mayor like never before.
How about some justice for Strawberry and her family?
BTW: For kicks and giggles, download a picture of Kwame and a picture of Stymie (Little Rascals) for a side-by-side comparison. Same look, same demise. Self destruction.
