Haitian Death Toll Skyrockets

haitian storms

Haitian death toll skyrockets.

Haiti’s death toll after four back-to-back tropical storms soared to almost 800 people, up from an earlier estimate of 326 people, reports the BBC. Of those killed, 466 were from the city of Gonaives, a place that was especially battered by the storms and suffered a lot of structural damage, the Haitian Civil Protection agency announced. More than 300 people are still missing, and 548 people were injured in the storms. In addition to the devastation suffered from the storm, there is word that the struggling U.S. economy may be affecting Haiti. Haitian Americans who are afraid of losing their jobs might send less money to family in their home countries, Haitian economists warn. Before the economic crisis, they used to send home $100 each time; now they can only afford $20, say Haitian radio reports.

My heart truly goes out to these people who are lost in this natural disaster. Where is the rest of the world, when they are really needed. why don’t the rich and powerful Nations reach out and assist these people? Just thinking about their turmoil makes my heat grieve.I was surprised to see there were no other blogs expressing opinions on this most dreadful situation.

Haiti has a long history of abuse. It is my strong opinion that Haiti should be left alone. Haitians living abroad (diaspora) and the Haitian government are taking advantage of the poor and vulnerable. If you send help to Gonaives, it will not reach the victims. Port-au-Prince will probably end up getting the goods and try to sell them for profit!

This is extremely sad. There are truly no words to express how sad this tragedy is. All of those people losing their lives. Terrible.

There are three vital things that are needed in Haiti to bring about real improvement:
1. Bulldozers and bobcats with trained operators should be dispatched to excavate and return the rivers that raged out of their banks and destroyed so many homes, bridges and lives. The equipment must be sent with teams that can go directly to the cities and towns that have been destroyed by the tidal waves of uncontrolled rivers. This should be completed as quickly as possible before the next heavy rains bring further destruction and death.
2. Solar ovens and propane stoves should be given to each woman who cooks in Haiti. The ovens and burners have to be simple to use and the women should be shown how to use them.
3. Tractor teams need to be sent to help the individual farmer recover and replant his land. Small versatile tractors along with fertilizer and good seeds
These three measures will be so much more effective than giving money at the bureaucrats in Port Au Prince

The majority of Haiti have turned their backs on God and I honestly feel that all the years of abuse that they have suffered is a result of that. I pray that he continues to watch over his children and somehow use this situation to bring others closer to him.

To Mary, about you get your hands dirty a little bit and help Haiti. It’s easy to sit down and say this is what’s going on and not do anything about. If you see a problem, you should probably try to fix it.
To Nita, Regardless of what some people may choose to live thier lives, they are human. Nobody deserves to suffer like that. Every single person in Haiti should get the help that they need to overcome this disaster .

IR 17;m praying for all the Haitians in haiti right now. I also want to encourage everybody who can, to extend an hand to Haiti and to help. There are many organisations that is helping…..join at least one.
