A Harlem athlete plunges to his death
. A high school athlete fell to his death in west Harlem Monday when he tried to jump from one roof to another during an egg-tossing prank, reports The New York Daily News. David Diaz, 19, and a few friends were hurling eggs off a roof on W. 135th St. when some of their targets below got angry. Diaz, a senior at Westside High School and a proud member of the Harlem Jaguars community football team, had one arm in a sling from a sports injury when he apparently tried to escape by bolting over a brick wall that he thought separated one building from another, friends and police source said. Instead, Diaz fell six stories to his death in the courtyard below shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday. “He hit an air conditioner and then the [ground] floor. But he was alive. This kid was so strong he kept trying to sit up,” said David Ruiz, 48, president of the tenant association at 612 W. 135th St. Diaz died several hours later at St. Luke’s Hospital, relatives said. “He was my baby. He was a good boy. They were just fooling around,” said the teen’s mother, Rosa Diaz, outside the family’s Bronx apartment. “This shouldn’t have happened … This is terrible. I want to find peace.”
This is really sad. I’ll be praying for the family and hoping that they find peace. God Bless and know that he is in a better place.
We never know when is our time and how we may leave this earth. As a parent of 6, three boys and three girls you alwayas try to keep them from harm. You do not know to be anrgy with them for doing CRAZY kids things or just keep them lock down. My first thought is to say to them “Are you CRAZY child”, but we know we all have done crazy stunts, tricks and pranks. Mrs. Diaz, I know how it feels to loose a child. It’s a feeling that numbs every part of the body. Words,comfort, understanding how or what to feel is just unknowing to you. In time there would be a moment of peace, clarity and understanding to all that is to our unknowing WHY? It has been twenty-six years to my daughter life with God and everyday day she is still in my heart my soul my life and her sibblings spirit. I see her as My Shepard watching over me and her sibblings. Ar`real DeVine her name says it all. Now you have your Sheppard watching over you in Gods Paradise in Heaven. Keep your childs memories alive in everything you say and do. Let the world know life is beautiful no matter what the obstacles that may confront us. Our Father must have needed him and that is WHY we must say GO DO GODS WILL MY CHILD AND WE WILL BE TOGETHER AGAIN. Our family will keep your family in our prayers always. Mrs. Diaz keep Gods smile upon your face ALWAYS. Your days and nights WILL get BETTER I PROMISE!!! God bless, may Gods peace be with you.
My heart is broken and I am still in deep shock. I had a boy in my class named David Diaz in P.S. 16 in Williamsburg Bklyn. He turned 19 this August. I had never had a moment’s problem with him. He was a great kid and I will miss him terribly. GOD be with you and may David rest in peace. If you want to talk, just call. I am in the Brooklyn white pages. I am grieved losing a student like him!
