Harvey Comments on Joyner Situation

Comedian Steve Harvey, whose syndicated morning show recently bumped his longtime friend, Tom Joyner, from Chicago’s airwaves, says that Joyner’s friends are missing the point by calling for a boycott of his program. “I’m the fall guy,” he told the Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rosenthal. “I’m not the reason you don’t have your beloved Tom. I just want people to know. …I’m just a hired gun. It’s unfair when people think the radio guys have a say-so. We don’t own the stations. … Somebody should explain to the people that while you’re boycotting, Tom Joyner is going to resurface in Chicago radio. If somebody would tell that to people, it would be better for people. But nobody’s telling them.” Last month, Clear Channel, which has been broadcasting Joyner’s morning show for the past 13 years on WVAZ-FM 102.7 (V103), moved Harvey’s syndicated show to V103 from Chicago’s WGCI-FM 107.5, thus kicking Joyner to the proverbial curb. The whole idea of a boycott, according to Rosenthal, was an off-handed comment Harvey allegedly made to Joyner’s longtime supporters. Harvey denied he has ever disparaged Joyner’s fans. “It doesn’t make any sense for me to say something like that,” Harvey said. “I’m trying to win and endear myself to people and not aggravate people and drive a wedge between me and the audience. I do respect and love Tom Joyner. He and I have been friends a long time. And we’ve talked since he’s been off the air [in Chicago]. But the move to V103, Steve Harvey has absolutely no control over. That’s what’s alarming to me. …”My success is not hinged on Tom’s demise,” Harvey said. “I’ve never built my career on something bad happening to someone else. What God has for me, he has for me—and he’s always given me what I have coming. … What I did not expect is to be the heavy in all of this and be the guy who caused this to happen, because I’m not.”
I have to admit that I have never really listened to the Steve Harvey show, but I guss that I will have to pay more attention now since Tom is gone and I am not saying that is a bad thing maybe something fresh and new is good. Let’s give it a chance.
I am not the biggest fan of the Steve Harvey show on the station it comes.I have not been effected by this change because we still have both m.s.. I do feel they need to switch stations because Steve plays everything that Tom should play and Tom plays things that Steve should play. But I still switch from time 2 time.
First of all I shall touch and agree with Steve Harvey, what God has for me is for me, what God has for Steve is for Steve Harvey, and the point is What God has for you is for you. You don’t do a beat down because someone is free to be themselves. I also agree that unity is so needed in the Black community, it is scary to see our race so divided. There are opportunities to take the negative energy and make it a positive. Tom Joyner will be just fine, what God has done through him shall remain. Let God take him on higher. The only thing we should be dependant on is making sure we know what God has for us.(individually. ) Then and only then can UNITY with peace come to pass.

Yes I know Mr. Harvey has nothing to do with the exit of Mr Joyner. It is the media who is behind all of this hype. I still listen to Mr. Joyner on my computer because I’m not a Mr. Harvey radio fan. Now on stage and TV I do enjoy him.
They both are good, but for an education that is much needed in our community, Harvey keeps us inundated with Ebonics which is not good. We are getting laughed at as a black community. the station is black owned, and white people dont have anything to do with this. If harvey really cared, he wouldnt broadcast until they both are on.

Harvey may be Ebonics and Tom Joyner may be Knowledge BUT they both are needed to represent and organize and communicate to the black listener and therefore the black community. All black radio people don’t have to be the same because all black people are not the same.

That’s the main thing I like about Steve Harvey: he always speaks with common sense – thus engaging you to look at things from the realistic as opposed to the fantasy perspective that is so commonly (and easily)accepted as truth.
