Health: Janet Jackson’s Mystery Illness is Finally Explained; Women Are Urged to Get Tested for Breast Cancer

October 17th, 2008

Janet Jackson’s mystery illness is finally explained. What was up with Janet Jackson’s cancelation of several stops on her “Rock Withu” Tour? The mystery illness that sent her to the hospital in Canada last month has finally been explained. Vital Signs has the details.

Women are urged to get tested for breast cancer. This is the day to remind your mom, aunts and other relatives and friends to get a mammogram. Today is National Mammography Day and the American Cancer Society is reminding women 40 and older to get a yearly mammogram. On average, mammography will detect about 80 percent to 90 percent of breast cancers in women without symptoms. Death rates from breast cancer in the United States have been dropping since 1990, due in large part to early detection by mammography screening and improvements in treatment, the society points out. However, recent studies suggest that many women are scheduling mammograms later in life, not scheduling them yearly, or not receiving appropriate and timely follow up of positive screening results. “Mammography remains the most effective screening test for the early detection of breast cancer available to women today,” said Otis W. Brawley, MD, chief medical officer at the American Cancer Society. “Women are strongly urged to schedule their mammograms yearly and to talk to their doctor regularly about their risk for breast cancer.”  To help with this effort, the society has set up www.cancer.org/MammogramReminder, where women can sign up to receive an email reminding them to schedule their yearly mammography test.  Women can also visit www.cancer.org/mammovideo to watch real women share their feelings and experiences with getting a mammogram, as well as expert advice on risk factors and screening for breast cancer.

Janet doesn’t have breast cancer. The headline is somewhat misleading leading someone (like snoopy161) to believe that Janet has breast cancer. There are actually two headlines: one talking about Janet and the other talking about cancer. According to the link in the article about Janet, “She cancel several concert dates last month because she was diagnosed with a rare form of migraines called vestibular migraine – or migraine-associated vertigo”
