High-ranking Black Dem in Hot Seat

Harlem Democrat Charles Rangel, one of the most powerful members of Congress, is in the hot seat after failing to reports hundreds of thousands of dollars in income and assets on his financial disclosure forms between 2002 and 2006. A good chunk of that money was in rental income from a home he sold a half-century ago, the records show. Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which sets the nation’s tax laws, is being investigated for his personal finances and fundraising. He has acknowledged omitting several assets, business transactions and sources of income, including a Merrill Lynch Global account valued between $250,000 and $500,000; tens of thousands of dollars in municipal bonds; and $30,000 to $100,000 in rent from a multifamily brownstone building he owned on West 132nd Street, The Associated Press reports. This is compounded by a recent amendment Rangel filed to his 2007 disclosure form showing that he also failed to report a cool half-million dollars in assets. Rangel says the omission was accidental. Naturally, Republicans, sensing an opportunity to oust one of their most powerful congressional foes, is calling for Rangel’s ouster. “The ball is in Speaker Pelosi’s court,” said Bill Steel, a spokesman for the House minority leader, John A. Boehner of Ohio. “How much longer will she allow Representative Rangel to keep such a powerful and influential position, given the staggering array of ethical allegations he faces?”

The best thing that ever happend was a black president, look at all racist statements that have been made, like when sonia sotomayor was chosen , all they focus was base on her been Spanish and that’s the truth.
I think they need to focus on getting Healthcare Reform, Getting more jobs, Takling Care of the Borders, Education for all our children including those in college and Terrorism and stop all of the racism and negative actions, They need to listen to the people and do what they were sent there for in the first place. Everyone of you have come short of the Glory of God. See who can throw the first stone.
I will say this, that since the Ted Kennedy is gone the Rep. are now going to get rid of those Democrats that had Ted’s back. Rangel is one them. He too is a fighter for the people.

Here goes the examples of the ‘deflecting’ blame mentality again. It’s like clockwork. Instead of saying ‘if it were a White man…’ or ‘what he did was wrong BUT…’ or ‘they’re doing this because he is Black,’ say “let’s look into this as any kind of corruption is wrong no matter the race. There obviously may be others (Black, White, Latino, Asian) that are corrupt in government, but while we investigate all leads, let’s give some of our focus on this particular case.”
Oh, and to the person saying that we should focus on other more important topics, please understand that our government has many, many departments. It’s not like they all sit down and say, “WHAT ONE STORY SHOULD WE LOOK INTO?’ They can look into thousands of cases. Wow, an education is a beautiful thing.

A lot republican politicians are so remiss as to claim they did not know they had so much realestate, that a lie. The USA OWES BACKS more than the FEDERAL RESERVE could ever handle or the The Stimulus Package.

I bet you broken a few laws in your life huh (rhetorical question)? Were you a slave? Were your parents slaves?? NO? So, why does your uneducated/unmotivated a@@ deserve anything? Technically, the US ‘owes’ a lot of groups of people a lot…but if the gov’t decided to pay everyone, guess what? Our economy is done…and you’re gonna be living worse than you already are. Reparations mean nothing if the economy has tanked idiot. What you should ask for, but don’t deserve, is interest free loans for EDUCATION, or partial scholarships. ATTENTION ALL DEMOCRATS, please believe that you must keep you house clean in order to keep it. When it’s clean it is good for all democrats especially the ones who put you there. Remember one of our greats was taken down (Spitzer), and yes it hurt everyone who put him there.
If Chairman Rangel is in the wrong, he needs to be held accountable. If he’s already admitted improperly reporting his assets, what’s there to argue? Does he not deserve at least a censure, if not more? How do you “forget” to report a million dollars? Being black should not protect him from the consequences of improper actions. It’s not good enough to say that he should cheat just because others do. That would make him no better than the other cheats — which is to say, unfit for public service.
This is an old story that’s probably being dug up because of Ted Kennedy’s death. The Republicans want him off the ways and means committee and honestly if he’s guilty ot these serious tax issues then ethically he probably should be removed as chairman but in an era of “politics as usual” he will probably remain in that position until he retires or dies… just like the rest of them.
If senator Rangel violated the laws of the land then definetely he should have to pay the consquences. What I know is that in america if you are rich and can afford great representation, that the procecution process slows the penalties are much less severe than for average Americans and this is something elase that is not right and not focused on by our law makers, politicians and those wh present the NEWs to us. Health care well I AM SO APPALLED AT THE ONE SIDED REPORTING BY THENEWS MEDIA , CNN INPARTICULAR. YOU WOULD THINK THAT NO ONE IN THE COUNTRY IS FOR THE GOVERNMENT OPTION AND THE HEALTHCARE PLAN THE ADMINISTRATION IS PROPOSING AND THAT IS NOT TRUE AT ALL.
