In an open letter penned to her fans and supporters, hip-hop legend Roxanne Shante’ reveals her personal fight with breast cancer.

So on a bright, sunny day in August 2009, I walked into Doshi center for a mammogram. I put on the gown and stepped up to the machine. As soon as the technician took my breast in her hand, she asked me how long had I had the lump. It’s huge, she said. I made a joke, she giggled, but I was scared and angry that I had waited so long.
I hope all women (and those of us who have mothers, aunts, sisters) read this letter. It could save your life!
Wow I was just reading about how she became a sucessful doctor, sad to here the news, hope she make a full recovery. Blackman we all must start making a bigger stand in supporting a cure for breast cancer for all women..

First and Foremost this is very sad news. Update Bro Jay, Ms. Shante is not a doctor and does not a valid University Degree, the whole story was a lie. Why lie, I still have no idea why she did it. When I first read the story on Highbrid Nation I was elated to hear the Ms. Shante recieved her degree in Psychology from a prestigious University. However, upon further examination of the story it was revealed that she never attend University and the alleged University that she attended had no record of Ms. Shante ever being registered.
I hope she isn’t lying about having breast cancer like she lied about having a doctorate degree. Many people may not believe her now. Hip Hop already gets a bad rap from people who don’t understand it, so to have an icon tell such a horrible lie and not stop to think that in this day and age of technology that someone wouldn’t find out the truth is astounding. I hope she gets through this with the help and support of her friends, family and fans. Good Luck Shante.
