Hip-hop Mayor’s Sex-text Nightmare About To Get Worse

July 11th, 2008

The question is whether Kwame Kilpatrick was a frequent philanderer.
As the defense team for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick prepares to beat back charges that he lied about his relationship with his longtime chief of staff, prosecutors are planning to roll out a whole new string of sexy text messages showing that cheating on his wife was a way of life. The so-called “Hip-hop Mayor” is currently facing a single perjury charge – that he lied under oath regarding his alleged affair with Christine Beatty. The case against Kilpatrick centers largely around the numerous sexually explicit text messages he sent to Beatty, who served as his chief of staff from 2002 until January 2008 when she resigned amid the scandal. But the bulldog-tough D.A. in the case, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, is picking through a mound of other Kilpatrick text messages – five year’s worth – hoping to find other evidence that Beatty wasn’t the only woman the married mayor was seeing on the side. “I’ll put the defense on notice, we’re about to file an amended warrant and complaint to amend the counts that relate to conspiracy as it relates to testimony about having a sexual relationship with the codefendant,” Assistant Prosecutor Robert Moran told The Detroit Free Press. “We’re going to amend to add the language ‘and others.’ We’ve uncovered other evidence.” The newspaper recently reported that a review of Kilpatrick’s trial testimony uncovered proof of additional affairs. “In addition to denying an affair with Beatty, the mayor denied having sex with an unidentified Jamaican woman at a barbershop,” it states. “One of the mayor’s former bodyguards had also accused him of meeting a woman at the Lofts apartments in Detroit for a late-night liaison. Kilpatrick was not asked directly about that allegation at trial.” As one might expect, lawyers for Kilpatrick and Beatty are perturbed. James Thomas, who represents Kilpatrick, expressed disappointment with the prosecutors’ plan of attack but would not elaborate on the revised case, according to the Free Press. Mayer Morganroth, Beatty’s attorney, call Moran’s comments “outrageous.” District Judge Ronald Giles has yet to rule on whether the content of the 14,000 text messages will become part of the public court file. “But they don’t even care,” Morganroth said of prosecutors. “They just want to get stuff out there any way they can to taint the jury. It’s outrageous but they do it anyway, whether it’s true or not, whether the information is privileged or whether it’s sealed or not.”

My question is how good was his term for people to try and get him out of office. To be honest, while I don’t condone the cheating, I really could care less so long as it doesn’t effect his job performance. Let’s ask the people of Detroit what they think of this…

Oh TANGI, you delusional little boobette!! When K.K decided to start texting this STRUMPET he already began making it a “Public Issue” I think you’re young I can tell. This man cheated on his wife and all some of you can say is “But is he a good leader?” And “I don’t care what he does in his private life as long as he’s addressing pertinent issues.” Wow!!! It’s okay to cheat on your wife as long as you’re doing your job????

What is starting to really concern me is, why do we as African Americans continue to excuse the actions of our elected officials? Why is it that we don’t think we should be held to a higher standard? Aren’t we worthy of at least having moral, intelligent , law-abiding officials representing us? We justify their actions by saying, “It’s just the white man/media trying to take him down” or “If he was white, you wouldn’t be hearing/reading about it like this.” The sad fact is, Detroiters elected — not once, but twice — an immoral man to represent them. I try to understand his election the first time, the mentality that it was going to be so cool to have this young, “hip-hop” African American as mayor. But to re-elect him AFTER all the scandals — the stripper who turned up dead after an appearance at the mayor’s mansion (which is funded by YOUR tax dollars); the “disappearance” of her cohorts; the numerous lawsuits as a result of illegal hirings/firings, etc., etc. — is beyond reasoning. Then to add insult to injury, a city the size of Detroit, with hefty personal city income taxes deducted from your paychecks AND three booming casinos, re-elected a mayor who outsourced city jobs and then told you all that you had to pay for your own trash to be picked up!!
Even though I re-located to Las Vegas from Detroit eight years ago, I was so very proud to tell any and everybody that I was from Detroit…..until Detroit and its mayor began making regular appearances on CNN! Now I pray none of my co-workers or neighbors remember that I’m from Detroit. The same is true of the large Detroit population at my church and the Las Vegas “Detroiters Club.” Although the vast majority of my family and friends left Detroit after the mayor’s re-election, I am still deeply saddened that the remaining population of Detroit does not realize that they deserve so much more.
For those who continue to say that the mayor’s “personal life” has nothing to do with his political life, STOP IT! You’re telling too much about your own character/integrity! A man who lies, cheats and steals make a good leader? Really!!

How many of you know the law?It matters in a court of law if you lie on the witness stand!! If it were you or I common folk it wouldn’t take this long for us to be in jail.No I don’t care who he sleeps with that’s between him,his god and his wife, but when you lie in court and use the hard working tax payers money in an already struggling city to cover/hush up the truth you (Mr.Kilpatrick) should get what you deserve by law.And people if your not from the city of Detroit or the state of Michigan you have no clue how this has impacted our city/state.”keep hope alive Kilpatrick”lol. And now that it’s time to elect again soon hopefully the people of Detroit will understand that a skin color doesn’t mean it’s the right person for the job.Do your homework and try to elect someone that will move the city forward into the future and not backwards in scandel. We as a city have grown and alot of new things have taken place but you can’t give him all the credit for those things alot of things were in the works when Mr Archer was in office so you can’t say he has done all of these things that have come to pass in the city. Now the truth will come out since new witnesses that were supposed to be there when the incident occur will now testify,we will see if they disapear just like Miss Green did for telling the truth.(Mr.Kilpratrick)LOL…..

i’m not a political science major but can’t this kwame be impeached or fired by the city council. can’t they have an emergency action to get him out quickly before he damages the city further. he’s already done too much damage to the office in general and to detroit’s reputation in particular.

That’s right Greg, and Stefani has been in hiding ever since then. I don’t know why charges are not being brought against Stefani, he knew what he was doing, and was paid to do it.
He held on to those text messages until after the trial, and used them as Bribery/Blackmail, to settle this case.
Kwami did not give in to the offer made by the officer, and he also wanted to appeal the decision, which 8 million dollars was awarded by a jury full of Suburbans.

To be honest we all do dirt, and at the same time when your in a powerful position in a powerful city you just have to do your best to let go of your sinful ways because it’s more people out trying to expose all your dirt and get a nice paycheck doing it too.

Commish Said on

Well anybody as STUPID as Kilpatrick does not DESERVE to run the city. In 2000 I was younger than him when I was elected to our City’s Commission. And even at that age I wasn’t stupid enough to partake in sexual conversations via municipal telecommunications devices. He thought he was longer than the long arm of the law. And he was wrong.

Using tax payers dollars for your personal sins is unacceptable. Parties, strippers, paying bodyguards go arrange meetings, serve as alibis, unfair hiring and firing, etc… the list goes on and on.

And then you see all these people supporting him. WTH is that about!??

This is what’s wrong with Black people today. We focus all our energies on the wrong CAUSES. Are you crazy!? Malcom and Martin didn’t march and die for HIM. Rosa didn’t sit down so he could use his power to abuse women! Thurgood Marshall didn’t integrate schools so he could be educated and then act ignorant! And W.E.B. didn’t fight for us to have the right to vote in order for us to waste it on this type of trash!

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

I live in a suburb of Detroit. I agree that Kwame Kilpatrick has done a lot for the city. No one can argue that. The problem is not with him as a mayor, per se. The problem is using city funds any way he chooses. That has included high priced vacations, hotel rooms, huge wage increases for family and friends, etc. When will we, as black people, stop backing one another in wrong doing just because the offender is black? Wrong is wrong and that is the bottom line. We will never be the people we were chosen to be until we say enough is enough. So what if other politicians sleep around, that does not make it right!! Grow up, if you can’t be faithful don’t get married. There is no law that says you must marry. When all hell breaks loose around you, take a moment and examine yourself. If you are the cause, remove yourself from the equation and allow people to heal. Kwame needs to step down, not because I say so. But because it is the right thing to do. He has served his purpose and needs to find another line of work. He has become a joke to our young people, not someone to look up to. Just another brother with a criminal record, what a shame!!!!!
