In Texas, Whites, Blacks Clash Over Killing of Black Burglars

Hundreds of White homeowners in an east Texas neighborhood confronted a group of Black protestors Sunday who showed up to demand the arrest of a White man who gunned down two Black burglars in his home. Dozens of police in full riot gear were called in to hold the peace as many of the homeowners lined the streets in support of 61-year-old Joe Horn, who killed Miguel Antonio DeJesus, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30, on Nov. 14. Some in the usually quiet Pasadena, Texas, community (about 10 miles southeast of Houston) yelled racial slurs at the protestors; some waved signs proclaiming Horn’s right to protect his home. “We love our neighbor for protecting our neighbors” and “Burglary is a risky business,” read some of the placards. Several bikers, some sporting Confederate and American flags, lined their motorcycles along the block. While Horn’s attorney says his client shot the men only after they left a neighbor’s home and came into his yard and threatened him, his 911 call on the night in question appears to contradict his account. While Horn is on the phone, the dispatcher told him to stay inside the house, CNN reports. “I support our rights as Americans to protect ourselves and support our Second Amendment rights,” said Aaron Morrow, 43, a biker with a rebel flag tattooed on the back of his shaved head. He is one of the many who revved their engines each time the protest leader, Quanell X, attempted to speak, CNN reports. Quanell X, of the New Black Panther Nation, argues that Horn should be arrested. “Our position is that we do not condone their actions. We condemn their actions,” Quanell X said. “But Horn acted as police officer, judge, jury and executioner all at the same time.” The Pasadena Police has not charged Horn with any crime. Police spokesman Vance Mitchell told CNN that the department will turn over its case to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in about a week. It would then likely be turned over to a grand jury. Should Horn be tried for murder, or is it a classic case of self-defense?
I live in GA and I have 3 children, if someone comes into my house they will not be walking out. I don’t care what color they are. The way I see it is if you are breaking into my house, you will do harm to me or my family and you got to go.
I am a black female,and my opinion on this topic is that. Mr.Horn should not face anytime. True enough the man is a racist,but he’s not the only racist, and just because he is a racist doesnt mean someone should be able to violate his personal space. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased though.
i think . well i no if it were the other way around two whites had came in blacks hood and a black man shot them .you know it ;no bond.are if there were the black man living in the white hood .and shot the two blacks it wouldnt matter.you know, no bond
Flip the script and the outcome would be very different. The alleged justification is that they were commiting a crime. Even in the law, the punishment must fit the crime. I am in total agreement that there are consequences for one’s actions, however, the horn individual did exactly as he intended, and only because they were of color. Had they been white, I guarantee that they would have been alive to face a jury. Also, if no one was in danger, how does this even remotely make sense to any sane individual.

I´m along with BK and Nigel. In my opinion this case is a typical hate crime and no selfdefense. Some questions occure to my mind in this particular case. 1) What´s about the neighbour of Mr. “I shot two ….(however he calls these burg-lars in a small talk with his buddies), now I´m a hero in my neighbour-hood (and -heart)”? Was he present? Why is the flag of the confederated states (note: the symbol of racism of the 19th century)is not regarded as a criminal-/hate- symbol in the whole of the U.S of America –> like the swastika (Hakenkreuz) in Germany ? By all means the moral concepts of the contra-protestors to the Quanell X – “movement” (note: the FBI lead a war against the Black PAnther movement in the sixties, which would be regarded as a act of terror in many historic and recent Law Systems) are disgusting. Let´s see how the neighbour- police-district will handle this issue. Let us hope that these cops and judges are not so tight with the murderer.

Thanks to all the ppl who knew the real story. By just reading the article, I throw my support behind Horne. But, the comments on page reveal that this fool appointed himself as an honorary cop, when neither he or his property was in danger, send him to jail.
Yet still, these two black brothers, (with spanish names??), are still wrong for burglarizing a man’s house. With the recent news of Sean Taylor’s death, I’m now strongly against such a heinous crime

its not worth killing someone over property that isnt even yours…if he let them go, yea the neighbor would have lost some property but due to mr horn someone lost their father.
i wasnt 100% sure it was a racial issue till i saw a video of the protest, clearly everybody in that neighrbuhood shud be ashamed..they put shame to white people. acting like animals.

I think what is being said here, is the days of black criminals making the conscious decision to go into white neighborhoods and break into houses, *%$@, rob and steal, are just about over. The two perps were also illegal aliens, who had lenghty criminal records.

It was never a racial issue until quanell X stuck his hyprocitical arse into it. The few racial slurs were made, were in response to his stupidity. He and his (quanell and crew) were as guilty as stirring things up as anyone else there.
In regards to Joe himself… state law allows for a neighbor to protect the property of someone else.
Precisely how long was he supposed to wait for the police to arrive?
IF Mr. horn was so ready to kill someone, why did he call 911 first? He could have easily just gone over there and shot them both then called the police. Why did he order them to ’stop’ before he fired, when he could have just shot them from a window or shot at them as soon as he left the house, instead or ordering them to stop first?
I would suggest those that immediately decided this was a ‘hate/race’ shooting need to do some self-examination.
Don’t mess with Texas. Joe Horn did the right thing. If every law abidingAMERICAN., were armed and trained how to defend themselves.
