Hip-hop’s Jeweler Gets 30-month Prison Sentence

Call him the “king of bling” or the “hip-hop hookup,” but for the next 2 ½ years, Jacob Arabov will be known as a federal prisoner after pleading guilty Tuesday to lying to prosecutors probing a multi-state drug ring. The 43-year-old Russian immigrant must also cough up $50,000 in fines and kick down the government to the tune of $2 million in forfeiture payment. “I feel ashamed that I broke the laws of this country, a country that has been so good for me,” Arabov said. “I will carry this shame for the rest of my life.” It could have been much worst for Abrabov, who authorities accused of conspiring to launder an estimated $270 million in profits for Detroit’s “Black Mafia Family” drug ring during the 1990s. At the recommendation of prosecutors, U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn imposed a minimum sentence of three years and one month. He lopped off another seven months from that, noting the defendant’s longtime charity work. He was arrested two years ago at his New York City jewelry store, which was frequented by many of the biggest names in the music industry. Do you think the sentence was fair?

It is another case of the criminal putting the criminal in jail. The criminal justice system is criminal and when you get caught the criminal puts the greedy the fast slick minded individual or group in a cell for a time. Money laundering is so old and people in higher positions are guilty of it. I hope those who deal in this sort of thing realize that the contribution to inflation high prices and all stem from this sympton of crime cleaning the dirty money up called money laundering. Yes a vacation with a big expense in the federal pen. May we all learn that crime does not really pay. Amen!!!

hahahaha there you go, DERELL SAID IT! the issue that we should be worrying about the GAS, not jacob i dont care about him either he got money prolly more connection he’ll be alright with the time they gave him he’ll be out at no time, but us poor people we still struglling here with the gas prices,and house market sucks etc. which none of those rich people like him their problem, our porblem. and oh yea ALICIA WA SO RIGHT TOO , from the people who talk stupid here to the people who keep blaming other races thats why their not succesfull, stop whinning about it just do it. just get up and better your self other minority did it so it doesnt matter if you black u should be able to do it too, stop going back to the slavery time and keep blaming white people, im not saying forget about what happened history wise but u cant live with the pain, and blame and make yourself a failure because youre making excuses about other color holding you back.

I am really amazed at the wide range of comments. What I think we miss is the fact that the African American Community is the only one that DOES NOT support its own. Our community recycles its money and resources in the community 1 time. The Hispanic community recycles its money and resources at least 4 times. The Asian and other ethnic groups recycle their money and resources no less than 8 times. We should be ashamed. Our ancestors worked hard for our people to have their own. Instead we do not support our own. This is why Mr Wong or Mr. Ahmed can come and take your money and recycle it in his community. Greed and laziness have enslaved our people so why does the white man have to waste his time doing it anymore? When we as a people put the value of life where it belongs (not on money or material things) we will see why sometimes people with less have more and people with more have less (Happiness that is…….) Peace

Okay……Obviously we have a real diverse thought process in this country. Some are quick to criticize and cast the first stone despite the fact that none of us, regardless of race, are without some sort of sin. Yes, greed is a major by-product of out free-market system, and it appears no one ever has enough. Hoarding is a major problem, and one of the important reasons we are now paying more at the gas pump. I am not a saint, but I was never into the bling bling thing. History proves that bling bling merchants have ripped off people for centuries. Ask the Indians about trinkets. Blood diamonds in ears at the cost of limbs and fears. As the price of food goes up, it slowly climbs the ladder to become a commodity more precious than gold, diamonds, designer items, oil, and all the rest of the stuff that’s important to the status quo. Water will be right next to food. Anyhow, our society is now a reflection of a very profound statement that Dr. King made, “Everyone is trying to abide by the 11th Commandment, Thou shall not get caught!” Either you lie or don’t snitch. We need to start spending more time exchanging having conversations amongst all people, regardless of race, about more important things in life. We need to start a LOVE and PEACE campaign all across the world, and realize that it is the only thing that will save us all! We are all children of God, and this sibling rivalry problem we have is going to do us all in if we don’t get it in check. In terms of the bling bling man getting rich off your gold trinkets and now faced with a little bit of crime time, as Don King puts it, “Only in America!”

I think you focusing on the wrong thing. Instead of trying to figure out why he got this light ass sentence, you need to figure out how to better you self to improve your own quality of life. I’m not just talking about education. We all know too many of us can’t afford to go to college or buy these dream homes. If you are broke guess what? It’s your own damn fault. It’s too easy to get out of the “hood.” Yes you may have to do some things you may necessarily not want to but it can and will work IF and WHEN you apply yourself. The military is an excellent way to start anew. We are even giving out wavers to people with felony charges right now. I’m from the Bronx so I know how hard life can be. I got out by joining the Army, I’ve been to Iraq and back. You might say hell no to that but you gotta make sacrifices to earn success, and I’m doing just fine. Ain’t nobody gonna give you nothing or pave the road for you, it’s time for us as a people to pave the road for ourselves. Holla back.
