Jail-bound Detroit ex-mayor accused of dine-and-dash.

Just days before he’s expected to begin a jail sentence after pleading guilty to improper actions in office, Detroit’s ex-mayor reportedly has been at it again. Kwame Kilpatrick, who resigned last month in the wake of perjury, obstruction and abuse of office charges, is reported to have reserved a private room Thursday for a small group at the prestigious Detroit Club. Management alleges that Kilpatrick signed his name to a receipt for the $70 tab and told wait staff, “Charge it to the city,” before leaving. Not only does Kilpatrick lack a city tab since he’s no longer a Detroit employee, but his widely criticized use of public funds for expensive meals, spa treatments, travel and other personal indulgences preceded his fall from political grace. The ex-mayor’s undoing began early this year when it was revealed that he lied under oath about an extra-marital affair with his aide during a multi-million-dollar lawsuit that he settled with ex-cops who may have exposed the trysts. In addition to skipping out on Thursday’s meal, Detroit Club management says Kilpatrick failed to pay for the private room he reserved. He’s expected to begin the three-month jail stint for his mayoral transgressions next week.
