Jay-Z’s at the Center of Glastonbury Music Festival Controversy

America’s “President of Hip Hop” has some British knickers in a bunch. Some diehard fans of the U.K.’s famous Glastonbury music festival are upset that the headliner of the show this year is rapper Jay-Z.
This is the first time an Urban music artist has been selected as the main act of the show, a sign to many festival-goers that the event is straying from its Rock and Roll roots.
Some are even blaming Jay-Z for the last 200 tickets (out of tens of thousands) not being yet sold. Even Trip-Hop artist Tricky (Yes, Lynn’s music partner and boyfriend on the TV show “Girlfriends” has chimed in. In an interview on Friday with the U.K.’s National Post, he said “I can understand in some ways, because an American artist headlining Glastonbury is probably a bit weird for people. And the fact that it’s an urban artist – and he’s not actually that good. If it was like, Public Enemy or Rakim, you might get away with it, because Rakim’s an extreme talent, and Public Enemy changed the face of music. People in England would probably relate to that more. But the ‘Bling-bling, I’m God’ sort of bulls—, English people ain’t into that.
Jay-Z, on the other hand, has no shortage of supporters, including several English artists like neo-soul sensation Estelle and others. “
“I’ve never ever had a show that’s caused this much stir so I’m really looking forward to it,” says Jay-Z. “I know we don’t all play guitars but we all have to respect each other’s music.It’s beautiful that people feel passionate about an event, you have to have an opinion about who should perform there, but the world changes and we have to embrace the change.”
Ok well all I know is Jay-Z is the BEST RAPPER ALIVE! And I dont know who Tricky is…

Well im british and nt a huge fan of rock n roll, im purely a urban chick. i dnt giv a …. bout jayz performing at glastonbury, but 4 the black population it is a great thing dat he had. neva bin to glastobury n neva really wana go. ‘english’ mainly being the white people in england will go on funny bout their festival being headlined by a rapper, n a great rapper at that, but what i saw on tv evey1 had their diamond hands in the air, n jayz gt alot of support. music is music, good music is 4 d artist n fans 2 decide, jayz dnt c his music as only urban he says in a interview n dat tune wid linkin park probably put the rock n roll fans at glastonbury on a high cs d music dey wer able to relate to. America is 2 big 2 undastand what englands about trust me, we dnt all care bout glastonbury.
Jeff Who? – He was carded to be there; it wasnt like he woke up and said “Oh Imma go perform at Glastonbury….wise up…Tricky Who? Tricky you gots long ways to go before even spitting J’s name outta your lips; you got 2 or 3 hits at the most, J’s got 3 classics. You dont even out, it’s like putting a candle (you) next to the sun (Jay)…listen to the whole work not just a few singles…Im sure he knows he’s not GOD cuz he even said so on the BLUEPRINT ALBUM on the track Lyrical Exercise; he states, “I’m far from being GOD but I work GOD D*amN hard…if anything he’s refering to being a God in the rap bizz…If I was J this would be how I shut them down: Get Linkin Park over there and do some sets from the Grey album to get the rock in there for the fans who want rock (rock&rap), do a couple sets with Bey to add a lil R&B (rap and R&B), pick out songs from his albums that have rock guitar riffs in them like Guns & Roses from the BLUEPRINT 2, and end the gig with 99 problems…Shut Dem Up, Shut It Down With Fire Music, Get Paid, Go Home…and Be Jay-Z.

I think those England people just need to calm down. U don’t see us complaining about Estalle!!! And who da hell is Tricky?!. I never even heard of her!!!!!!! Jay-z if u reading dis go out there and do ur thang!!!! Show them how us AMERICANS get down and how its done!!!!!!!!

Kimotherapy, apparently you have been listening to too much Jay Z. 1) He is not the greatest. 2) The concert is a rock concert not a rap concert. 3)He did not do the grey album that was Danger Mouse’s creativity. 4) Try listening to some of the rapper’s that have more on their minds than a pimp’s mentality of exploitation. 5) Number 4 may elevate your mind. 6) Fortunately or unfortunately for me I have purchased music by both Jay Z and Tricky. I actually bought Jay z’z first (Don’t knock the hustle – Slamming!!!) but I don’t think it belongs at a rock concert and I don’t think Tricky’s Maxinquaye (Awesome!!!) would go over very well at the BET Awards.
Jay-z is very big in America and elswhere it’s funny that he’s done music w/Kid rock as well as other rock groups.They all know the TRUE tallent that man has being able to blend a mess of words together being able to reach different crowds and aspects of many nations,that’s the reason he got to HEADLINE there and still many places to go.go on MR. Carter,continue with change and many will have to sit and listen. (WE AMERICANS DON’T HAVE PROBLEMS WHEN YOU U.K residents come here and become mainstream ,or better yet TRY TO PASS AS TRUE AMERICANS) POINT,get over yourselves and watch the show you might learn something besides a nosebleed from banging your head. And TRICky as you call him doesn’t deserve mentioning because he’s not true tallent he was on girlfriends and you had to mention the show just for us to know who he was. SO HELLO!!!
