Kwame Kilpatrick will resign from office, serve four months in jail and pay $1 million in restitution after pleading guilty this morning to two felony obstruction of justice charges. Kilpatrick will also do five years of probation and has agreed to transfer all proceeds from the Michigan pension he previously earned as a state representative to the City of Detroit Treasury. I can’t see taking his pension money before he became mayor. I can see punishment for being a party to the whistle blower’s firing and for the payoff situation. As for the woman issue..some are still doing it…but haven’t got caught yet. If this issue is accepted by his wife; I am staying out of it.

That is fair, yet again unfair. I say that because there are many white men who do the same thing and get off with a slap on the wrist. This is just more proof that America is slowly taking steps back instead of forward. I don’t deny, he does deserve some type of punishment, but nothing to that extent. This man has little to offer his family now that he has to pay this and give his money to that. I truely feel that if they are going to do that to him, they should do it to all!!

Whoops I think I may have hit a nerve, nope I know I hit a nerve of one of Kwames “supporters” LOL I don’t think I need to know anymore about facts of my comment. A man that is innocent don’t plead guilty, you fight to win, you fight for your life when you are innocent. He said he was guilty. He made a deal to give up millions. As for friends and you trusting them some people do take their jobs seriously and love and enjoy what they do so they try to be the best at it and if it means to investigate your friends then so be it. I don’t blame anyone for not going down with a corrupt person.. Police officers take an oath to PROTECT and SERVE and for people to loose their jobs or receive a demotion because of doing the right thing is wrongful. As for the others politians, you are referring to mssweetella if they are found guilty of anything than let them have their day in court and be removed from their position also. Mr. Cockrel will have his chance to work at being a positive leader but you have to realize and I am not taking his side but he is going into a new leadership position blindfolded. I am not trying to throw stones at anyone. I have nothing against the mayor, city council or the city of Detroit but wrong is wrong 24/7 and a lie is lie for a lifetime if caught. Why you call me out, out of over 60 comments. LOL “GIRL BYE” LOL So you go ahead and wait for Kwame to come back and run for office it’s possible he could win LOL, the mayor from Washington did and he was beaming up with scotty LOL.. Whatever floats your boat just be smart while you are in the water.

i don’t know if to say it is a harsh punishment or not, but i will say we as blacks should know better.. most times others may but we may not.. it has not been an easy walk for us as a whole, and when we have been given the opportunity to lead we should lead with respect and honor..

This case had nothing to do with an affair; the reason he plead guilty today was based on clear evidence that anyone can access on the Detroit Free Press or Detroit News websites, or through the leading community paper, the Michigan Chronicle. He..lied..under..oath. Considering he was up against 10 felonies, 120 days in jail ain’t much. And considering, here in Detroit, we are an overwhelmingly black city, 8 of the current 9 city council members are black, the county sheriff is black, the chief of police is black, the deputy mayor is black, the county prosecuting attorney is black, most city-based business leaders are black, most community and church activists are black, most city department heads are black, and both judges that were a part of Kilpatrick’s pretrials in the criminal case were black (until the judge that accepted the plea today), the cries of racism were always a little…confusing.

My heart goes out to Kwame Kilpatrick, but I have to say this Kwame if you claim be to innocent why did you turn in a guilty plead all of a sudden? I know for sure if I didn’t do nothing wrong I would never plead guilty to anything I didn’t do. I don’t care how much is at stake. I hope this teaches you a lesson. When you are a public servant keep your nose clean at all times. Someone(s) is always waiting for you to slip up. You of all people should have known that politics is a dirty business. And makes you think that your black ass was not going to get caught.

My heart goes out to Kwane’s family. They are the forgotten victims in this true mess. I do not feel sorry for Kwame, as adults we know we are responsible for our actions and if we do wrong and get caught we must suffer the consequences. Do not forget this man is, or was, an attorney and took an oath to uphold the law. He not only violated the law, he violated his vows to his wife. I do not condemn him because no one is perfect. But he does need to reap the troubled seeds he has sown. He is young and can start a new career and still be sucessful but I believe he need to look for another career path.

To all those who play the race card, I am White myself but as far as I am concerned crime is crime regardless of what your skin color is.

Even loads of Blacks do not like Kwame Kilpatrick, my parents happen to be friends with a Black couple from Detroit that are not fond of Kilpatrick at all.

So yes there are Blacks who despise Kilpatrick for the same exact reason a White person like me despises him, and it is not because of his skin color, it is because of his criminal activity.

I have voted for Blacks in politics quite a few times but when I cast my vote, I do it based on character rather than skin color.

For instance the only Black on the Michigan Supreme Court is of good character but Kwame Kilpatrick is not.

Martin Luther King said it best when he spoke of judging on character instead of skin color, so please people stop the race card and accept that Kilpatrick is in trouble because he committed crime.

Ms H Hart Said on

I have thoughts but justice has control. The thing that bothers me; the “resigned” ex- mayor should be not loose his pension he has already earned no matter what . The whole morale of the State not to mention the City of Detroit is not existing at a level above Kwame Kilpatrick’s actions. Give the man back his pension and let the State work out the importance of its own morale problems (especially lying).

I hope his wife leaves him….. He will always be a cheater and a liar!

I AM A CURRENT RESIDENT OF DETROIT AND IM A SHAME TO TELL ANYONE WHERE IM FROM. KWAME GOT WHAT HE DESERVED, BUT NOT ENOUGH. IF THEY SAY NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, THEN WHY KWAME IS NOT SERVING THE NECESSARY SENTENCES. IF IT WAS A REGULAR CITIZEN WHO COMMITTTED THESE CRIMES, THEIR SENTENCE WOULD BE MORE HARSH. I FEEL SORRY FOR HIS WIFE AND KIDS, BECAUSE OF THE EMBARRASSMENT HE HAD BRUNG TO HIS FAMILY. KWAME MADE IT BAD FOR A LOT OF AFRICAN AMERICANS WHO IS TRYING TO GET AHEAD BECAUSE OF HIS SENSELESS ACTIONS. YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THE BLACK RACE. PEOPLE DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE $1 MILLION HE HAS TO PAY BACK, BECAUSE HE PROBABLY CAN PAY THAT RESTITUTION THE SAME DAY, HE PROBABLY GOT MORE MONEY HIDEN IN OTHER BANK ACCOUNTS IN OTHER PEOPLES NAMES THAN WE THINK. I NEVER SAID HE WAS STUPID. I JUST HOPE DETROIT CAN RECOVER AFTER THIS HUMILATION FROM ACROSS THE WORLD.

EVERYONE IS TAKING ABOUT KWAME AND HIS FAMILY, BUT WHAT ABOUT CHRISTINE BEATTY??? SHE SHOULD FEEL LIKE AN IDOT NOW, LOSING HER CAREER, HUSBAND, AND THE SO CALLED MAN THAT SHE LOVED AND MADE A FOOL OUT OF HER. NOW, SHE’S ALL ALONE AND DON’T HAVE NOTHING, WHAT A WASTE. I GUESS SHE CAN FORGET ABOUT HER AND KWAME’S WEDDING BELLS IN 2012, BECAUSE KWAME MADE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR TO THE WORLD THAT HE IS NOT LEAVING HIS WIFE, CARLITA. I THINK CHRISTINE SHOULD BE ON SUICIDE WATCH NOWADAYS, BECAUSE SHE IS NOT LOOKING GOOD AT ALL, UNLESS KWAME IS STILL CREEPING AROUND WITH HER AND JUST PUTTING ON A FRONT IN FRONT OF THE WORLD. NOW, THAT’S SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT AND MAKE YOU SAY…HMMMMM. KEEP YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN CARLITA, KWAME LET IT BE KNOWN THAT HE IS A SNAKE IN THE GRASS.

John 8:7 (King James Version)
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone……

Romans 14:10 (Amplified Bible)
Why do you criticize and pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you look down upon or despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God.

Matthew 7:1-2 (Amplified Bible)
DO NOT judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves.
For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you.
