It is so sad that the mayor allowed arrogance and lust to be his downfall. He was there to serve the people of Detroit and uphold the duties of his office. You have hurt your family and brought shame to people who once loved and respected you. People should know what is done in the dark will surely come to the light. Your choices are attached to consequence and he should have known that. Corruption is as widespread as the common cold–in all levels of government.

YES I THINK THE PUNISHMENT WAS SEVERLY HARSH. HE DESERVED SOME TYPE OF PUNISHMENT, BUT THIS SEEMS A BIT EXTREME. IF HE WERE ANOTHER ETHNICITY, I DO NOT BELIEVE THE PUNISHMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO SEVERE.

IN THIS CASE THE PUNISHMENT DOES NOT SEEM TO MATCH THE CRIME.

i am glad this is FINALLY over. he let go of the stubborness and saw the true picture. i have friends that live in detroit & i hear the city is virtually in shambles, all under his reign. hopefully the city and the people can get back to rebuilding.

jamie Said on

i just read a comment about the punishment being too harsh. PLEASE people. have you seen the statistics on detroit. how he has used public funds for parties and such. let’s not bring race into this. wrong is wrong….period. no, and’s if’s or but’s about it!!!

As Rhiana sings “And the award for the BEST LIE goes to you” Kwame. “But it’s ova now” when you go to jail don’t take a bowwww.

Let’s face it. The mayor was corrupt. He thought he was above the law. He had the Clinton view of morality- It’s OK to cheat on your wife if you don’t get caught. He also thought it was OK as Clinton did to lie under oath. The punishment fits the crime. He is a liar and a felon. Detroit paid a high premium for this man’s arrogance and destructive and immoral behavior. He does not deserve the office to which he was elected. He had a responsibility to serve the people and not himself. I feel sorry for his family but I have no pity for this man of no integrity.

Sharhonda stop it.

This is not a race issue. This is a moral issue. Please.

It is a sad day when a young African American leader throws it all away. But I hope the City of Detroit will heal and the Family will heal. Everyone don’t throw stones. We here in New York State have recently lost a Governor because of his arrogance. Pray for them. As my husband would say NO WOMAN IS WORTH LOSING EVRYTHING OVER including your soul.

GOD BLESS YOU DETROIT. Now the healing begins and to the Kirkpatrick Family this too shall pass. Hold your heads up high and let noone put you down. This is one man’s mistake and he is now going to pay for his mistakes.

This is sad day for Detroit my we grow stronger because not only he deceived the city of Detroit but his family and especially his kids so i ask everyone to just keep prying for him and his family and hope for the best

I feel that certainly he should have been punishished but I think that some of the punishment was too harsh. As pointed out by many people, two Presidents were caught lying and other officials have been caught but they did not go to jail. Was Ms. Worthy & Mr. Cox trying to grandstand for political reasons? To Kwame: If what I hear is correct your making the wrong choices trying to do the right thing may have started a long time ago. I prey you will get yourself together, recover, learn, & grow from this, make yourself, your family, and your people of the city of Detroit to be proud of you once again. May God bless you and your family and send his angels out in full force to watch over you.

This dude is a clown!! He is in pictures with all these bootleg rappers in a players ball suit..lol.. What a joke. Detroit and all of Michigan is hurting right now and this clown of a mayor is all extra’d out with the spending of taxpayers money to fund his vacations. This brotha put himself in this situation, on top of that he is text messaging women on the city cell phone…lol.. What a JOKE… WOW..

I have read the majority of the comments written by the bloggers and find most of them to be quite refreshing. I have followed this case from the begining up to the end and truly find the end results to be totally unfair and unjust. There is no way that the punishment fits the alledged crime. This has been nothing more than an organized lynch mob assembled together to bring about the career assassination of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. In my opinion the Mayor was within reason when he dismissed the two so-called whistle blowers, you make the call. You have two friends that you employ in your business and the two of them decide that they are going to try to destroy your credibility, so they begin to investigate you behind your back. Do you A: Continue to employ them in their present capacity, or B: Tell them to pack it up and get out. I don’t know about any of you but as for me, I definitely don’t want anyone around me that I cannot trust. As for the comments made by: littlelucy, what is your definition of wrongful? You need to first have all of the facts, not just what Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s opponents have said or written, but all of the facts, before you comment on the subject. As for the city being stagnated by the Mayor, well the city counsil had a lot to do with that. The unscrupulous manner in which their went about conducting their own selfless agenda was callous and malicious. Their behavior was adolescent the majority of the time and they were unable to do any of the tasks that were before them. Each of these individual’s need to also be removed from office and we here in Detroit need to start fresh. As for Ken Cockel becoming Mayor, he cannot even run the City Counsil how can we expect him to run the City. I was and remain a strong Kwame Kilpatrick supporter and continue to believe in his ability to run this city. I will be waiting impatiently for his return to the political arena.

i think the punishment is too harsh for the crime committed. he should be punished, but not to the full entend of this judgement. this is a good causes to help uplift and rally around for his future. this is a lesson i am sure he’d learned for future guidance in decisions. i pray for him and his family for recovery and a second chance.

I’m shocked that he received jail time. I hope that his family will be ok. He does have young sons & to see their father go to jail is not going to be very good for them. I do not believe in kicking a person when they are down. But all I can say is I hope their is a lesson learned in this incident for all minority politicians.

Why not just strip the man of his power & allow him to continue to raise his young black male children. The world is always saying that we need to support our children I guess the courts did not think about this for Mr. Kilpatrick. An ankle bracklet would have been sufficient.

I am thoroughly embarrassed by the actions of that little man who does not realize that as a Black man in a position of power, he also represents all Black me. Like it or not, but we are all judged you the actions of those in the public eye, particularly if the are doing illegal things. Too bad that he did not know that. He shames all of us African Americans–all of us.

I hope they give him the most jail time possible.

He had me fooled. He proved I was a Sucka. I’m not from Detroit but I was so proud when he was elected. I’m worried that young black males who want to go into politics are gonna face a up hill battle because of Kilpatricks crimes.
Kwame Kilpatrick is a “it’s All about me person”.
