LA Police stop more Blacks, Hispanics than Whites
. Los Angeles police officers stop and search Black and Hispanic residents before they stop White ones, even though Whites are more often found carrying guns and contraband, according to a report released Monday by a civil liberties group. “The results of this study raise grave concerns that African Americans and Hispanics are over-stopped, over-frisked, over-searched and over-arrested,” wrote report author Ian Ayres, a Yale Law School economist and professor. Ayres’ findings, published by the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, are based on the Los Angeles Police Department’s own numbers for pedestrian and motor vehicle stops in the year July 2003 to June 2004. Even after researchers controlled for demographics and neighborhood crime rates, they found significantly higher stop rates for Black and Latino residents. For every 10,000 residents, Blacks were nearly three times more likely to be stopped than White and other “non-minority” residents, facing 3,400 more stops. Hispanics were stopped on 350 more occasions. “These stark statistics … give a numeric lens for the lived experience of ‘driving while Black’ or ‘driving while Hispanic,”‘ Ayres wrote.
This article doesn’t say wether there were variations in the percentage of blacks stopped by white police officers versus black officers. LA is a big place, and it’s is possible that blacks simply travel through higher crime areas that are under surveilance more.

This is outrageuos!! Blacks are just like whites, except for the lower test scores, infant mortality rate, violence to women, high school drop out rate, $@@%, teen pregnancy, drive bye shootings, welfare recipience, AIDS rate and a slew of other statistics that say we AINT the same. You have your good points but then yo have the stuff I mentioned. REALITY CHECK not welfare check!

KDawg, do you not think that whites face the same issues balck people face? White kids drop out of school. White people have AIDS; it isn’t a racially divided disease. White men abuse women, white people receive government assistance, white people even commit crimes.
African Americans have differences from Caucasians, but when it comes to issues aforementioned, we are not all that different.
Just because you hear about all these statistics in the black community more than you hear about them in the white community, doesn’t make them nonexistant. Because they are there.

This isn’t just happening in L.A., this is all arcoss the coutry. Someone should do a study across the coutry o this topic. And then people wonder why minorities do not trust law officers. Especially in places like Virginia check their records I think it’s a law on their books that if your a minority thats probable cause for their police to stop you.
