Levert Death Could Prompt Change in Jail Policy
December 23rd, 2008

Levert death could prompt a change in jail policy. The city of Cleveland, prompted by the death of R&B singer Sean Levert, has proposed changes in jail policy that could make it easier for inmates to get their psych medication. Levert, a member of the LeVert trio and son of O’Jays singer Eddie Levert, died in late March after getting sick at Cleveland’s Cuyahoga County Jail. His widow, Angela Lowe, is suing the city, arguing that her husband died because he was denied his Xanax anti-anxiety medication. He had his medication at the time he was booked into the jail for neglecting to pay child support. Under the new proposal by the jail administrator and jail doctor, inmates will be allowed to get their meds as soon as their prescriptions are verified, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Re: lakers 24
Are U so perfect that U can say this. I mean people do still have rights if they go to jail especially if it deals with meds that they need so just because he went to jail then he should not be able to get his meds. U need to check what u just said its a shame, I will be prayiing for u.
Lakers24 does have a point there concerning the population of the jail system being majority black but America’s population of Blacks is lest than 20%. Condolences go out to Levert’s family, but I think that the wife may be bringing this to light only for monetary reasons.
This is tragic. What’s worse is that this tragedy might’ve been prevented by a physical examination (within reasonable standards of security and safety). I’m not a prisoner rights advocate, but anybody who gets locked up in jail should be kept safe from other inmates who prey upon weaker people; officers who corrupt or incompetent and from themselves. More measures need to be taken to prevent inmate violence, abuse by officers and suicides. It’s unfortunate that it takes tragedies (as in the plural of tragedy) for changes to be made in the jail policies and handling procedures.
It’ s truly sad that he had to die that way. I send prayers to the family. Lakers24….ummm everyone who goes to jail isnt a criminal. I do believe that if you did the crime you should do the time, but dont be so quick to judge people because of their current situation. Because rather you like it or not you are not and never will be perfect so get over it
WHY DID THIS TAKE SO LONG!!.I HOPE THIS WILL CAUSE THE BOOKS TO OPEN AND WE SEE WHO ALL DIED BECAUSE OF NEGLECT!!
Thats sad I would cry if that was my son. was he famus or soming We all know who he is if you would have gave us more information. But I am sad all the people played on tv or playing vidio are dieing that is sad I wish he could get a chane to seen his family.
Thats sad he could atleast stade alive so he could see his family I would won’t to see him before he died if he was aport of my family you could have gave us more information about him. but I’m still tring to find out what happen. But he look cute and young to die.
What the H*ll is wrong with you people. Why do dumb people always put race of a person in everything. Who cares what color his D@m skin WAS. Care for the fact this is now dead. It show that it was a wrongful death. Why is it ok to say “the man was in jail OoO well that he died.” Hello people think about what you say before you say it. You never know what is going to happen in your life, treat people the way you want to be treated. I understand that there are rules in a jail that must be follow but never treat a person like they are less then you b/c they are in jail. One day you might be right next to them!
AMANDA THE WORLD IS THE WAY IT IS BECAUSE PEOPLE DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS. INSTEAD, THEY DO WHAT THEY WANT AND THEN BLAME EVERYONE OR EVERYTHING ELSE AROUND THEM. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO CAN AVOID GOING TO JAIL. I AM 31 YEARS OLD, AND I HAVE NEVER WENT TO JAIL. I ALSO DID NOT, AS A CHILD LIVE A SHELTERED LIFE. I HAVE HAD FUN AND DONE THINGS THAT OTHERS HAVE DONE. ITS JUST KNOWING WHERE YOUR LIMITS ARE AND WHEN TO SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. YOUR RIGHT POEPLE ARE TREATED WRONG IN JAIL AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THAT. BUT THAT STARTS WITH OUR LEADERS. AS IN (CHEIFS OF POLICE, SHERIFFS, MAYORS, SENATORS, CONGRESS, EVEN FURTHER UP) SHOWING SOME CONCERN AND PASSING IT DOWN.
I don’t know what all the fuss is about this guy finally made good enough said.
White people smell like dog sh!@.
Does anyone not see the irony in all of this? We are saying that he should have been treated better in jail, but what about him treating his kids better? He went to jail because he did not pay his child support. You do not go to jail for missing one payment, you go when you are seriously delinquent! If he would have had more integrity and fulfilled his obligations to his family, he would not have been in the situation to be denied anything. We, as strong, powerful black people, need to start holding each other to a higher standard. Yes, I do not agree that he should have died (or been allowed to in this case), but Sean has a lot of responsiblity in this matter, and if he would have taken care of his (children) he would not of ended up like this!
HEY THROWUP I MEAN FEDUP. WHO SMELLS,ARE YOU KIDDING ME. FAKE HAIR,UNWASHED CORNROLLS,OILY SKIN. BY THE WAY IT’S ASK NOT AXE
Dog smelling, mildew smelling nasty looking body, disease carriying, piss smelling, incest doing to your own kind to all honkeys
All white people are incest freaks, and lakers24 your #1
all white people eat dog shyt
HEY THROW UP, WERE YOU THE SPELLING BEE CHAMPION IN YOUR SCHOOL
Maybe he should have paid the child support and taken care of his children , typical black buck . got what he deserved.
QUIT BREAKING THE LAW AND YOU WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING TREATED BAD IN JAIL. BLACK PEOPLE MAKE UP 13% OF THE POPULATION AND 43% OF THE CRIME IN THIS COUNTRY , QUIT BLAMING OTHER PEOPLE AND LOOK IN THE MIRROR
Fed-ex how can you smell anything past you’re own stench which must be horrible.
