Mandela Removed From U.S. Terrorist List

July 3rd, 2008

The 90-year-old ex-president of South Africa has been unwelcome for many years
Mandela

Following a national outcry which even included comments of outrage from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the United States government will finally remove former South African President Nelson Mandela’s from a U.S. terrorism watch list. The international icon and Nobel Peace Prize winner’s treatment by the U.S. government urged lawmakers to introduce a bill to take him off the list. President Bush signed the bill Tuesday. “He had no place on our government’s terror watch list, and I’m pleased to see this bill finally become law,” said Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry. Mandela, the former head of the African National Congress, was the jailed for 24 years during the heyday of apartheid, the South African regime’s longtime system of racial separation that was brutally enforced by the White minority government for 46 years. South African dubbed the apartheid-fighting ANC a terrorist group. Thus ANC members were denied U.S. visas, without special permission. Mandela was released from prison in 1990 and, four years later, apartheid officially crumbled, but the leader’s name remained on the U.S. terrorist watch list. Under the new bill, both the State Department and Homeland Security Department have the power to dissolve the restrictions against Mandela and fellow ANC members. “What it will do is make sure that there aren’t any extra hoops for either a distinguished individual, like former President Mandela, or other members of the African National Congress to get a U.S. visa,” State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.

i think it’s about time they did that. it’s surprising to hear that the name was still there after all these years. i mean the man not only fought apartheid for south africa, BUT he fought and put his life on the line so that all humans and especially african/black people be recognised and given the necessary respect that they deserve.

and now throughout the world, his words exists and we still honor and respect them.

He should have been removed long before now. He is an honorable and decent man who has survived very difficult circumstances with grace.

It is such a shock to learn that personalitys of like President Nelson Mandela could exist in such a list after what this man went through for justice, peace and human right. I wonder how many of such lists exist with whose name they choose to encode into their groupings. Thank God for blessing Mandela with such a mind set and life style. I wish him longer years to come and less opportunity for those that try to marginalize human beings.

What took them so long? We are where we are as South Africans thanks to utata uMadiba. It’s not suprising that he has not even question them for still calling him a terrorrist. The man possess such grace. Siyabonga Tata!

It just shows that even freedom fighters are considered terrorists. America needs to rethink the definition of the word.

I’m surprised to hear that his name was on there to begin with. It’s rather disappointing that it took an act of Congress to remove it, why couldn’t Bush just pick up the phone and call Condi and Chertoff and say remove it if he knew it was there?

PBrown said on July 3rd, 2008

So now after eighteen years, his name is being removed from the U.S. Terrorist List. Why was Nelson Mandela but on a U.S. terrorism watch list?

I applaude Condalezza Rice for stepping up and having Mandela’s name removed from the “terrorist list” which in fact, I had no idea he was on and what for? But that is neither here nor there now.

Thank God for His many blessings!

To GOD be the GLORY!

Now this is really funny. What fool put him on the list in the first place and for what reason? We have white terrorist here in American and they aren’t on any terrorist list, they are just out there running butt wild. We have police officers that need to be on terrorist lists the way they behave as they lie about how they serve and protect. Terrorists that are true problems are not on the “list” so someone is wasting a lot of time checking on and tracking the wrong folks.

Jwrtr68 said on July 3rd, 2008

The fact that his name was still on the list should speak volumes about the nature of organized racism worldwide. You’ve got a living icon’s name on the same list as Osama Bin Laden, are you kidding?? I MEAN SERIOUSLY??? We’ve come so far yet we have soooooooooo much farther to go! And look at the situation in South Africa, Johannesburg is one of the world’s most dangerous cities, the country’s economic infrastructure is a disaster and the medical resources are sooooooooooo uneven in terms of what blacks and whites get, without question!!!!!

Jwrtr68 said on July 3rd, 2008

This is all part of the New World Order. It exists and all of you who doubt are too stupid, ignorant and/or lazy to do a little navigating and find exactly what the phrase means and who is represented by THE NEW WORLD ORDER. I gotta contact a buddy of mine in the A and get the name of that video (yes VHS Cassette) tape with atleast 1-1 1/2 hour documentary with this all this information. Watch out for my newsflash y’all. Each one teach one!!! :)

Jwrtr68 said on July 3rd, 2008

Its on YOUTUBE Y’ALL!!!!!!! The New World Order Is Here” is the title. This is just small synopsis of the actual truth. But just like civil rights MOST of you will only go 20% deep and miss the priceless, liberating majority of the information, which in turn prompts ACTION!!! I put it out there so don’t front. Get it and prepare yourself (whatever that means to you) or be consumed. Those implantation chips (that they’ll soon-by federal law-require your newborn have) are the last sign of impending world destruction. Human beings are not designed to have the kind of world dominion that the super rich, elitist minority of the world are going to accomplish without leading to world destruction!! YOU SHOULD BE SCARED!!!!!

I thank God for his faithfulness. Former-President Nelson Mandela fought and stood for what he believed; “that all men are created equal.” He reminds me of “Job”. He was tried by the enemy, but he never let go of this faith. Those who know the story, God gave him back double of everything he lost. Here stands a man with the same determination, faith and hope. It was indeed a honor and pleasure to see Former President Mandela accepting the Nobel Peace Prize, in Philadelphia, PA, with honor, dignity, integrity and respect. Thank God for a man like this for such a time as this.

If there is any body that is suppose to be keeping the List of Terrorist in the whole wide world i think it will be Mandela, but as it is they say his name is on the list. Well, what can we say but tell Nelson Mandela to keep doing the doing the good things he knows how to do best because that kind of propaganda only go a long way in making him MORE POPULAR.

Christa said on July 4th, 2008

Lisa, that is not entirely true. South Africa is not going to dogs. What dogs are u talking about? What makes you say that. Support your statement please. I live in South Africa. My country is facing challanges just like any country in the world, high food prices, high price of fuel, unemployment, crime etc, just like Zimbwabwe is also facing its challanges… But to say South Africa is going to the dogs, that is a bit much.

I was shocked to my pants to learn that several years after he ensured the demise of apartheid in his home country of South Africa, the name of the world’s number one citizen, Nelson Mandela was still on the terrorist list of the United States. This is more than preposterous if you ask me. A man who spent 27 of his active years behind bars in the fight for freedom for his people deserves much more than to be tagged a terrorist in the first place. How many people living today can do that? The good thing however is that his name has been finally deleted from American terrorist list, even though belatedly. The American govt i think owes him an apology for such act. May God continue to bless and spare MANDELA’S life for some more years, AMEN!

Even though I don’t agree with South Africa placing Nelson Mandela on a “terrorist list”, I do understand their crazy logic, because Mr. Mandela was a threat to their system of apartheid. What I don’t understand and no logic that I can summons allows me to comprehend is how the US aligned itself with the South African government and saw anyone who fought against the racist political system as an enemy of the US?? That would mean that they supported the policies of that country. I’m almost certain that the US State Department will say that the ANC used violence and that’s why they were placed on the list. Well, if they call defending themselves “violence”, then what do they call the atrocities and crimes against humanity that their government perpetrated against the innocent people of South Africa? My question is why wasn’t South African government officials on that list? I guess when you think about it, there really hasn’t been much difference in those that ruled in South Africa and those that have run this nation.

The US has had ample time to just this unjust and yet nothing has been done until now. why?? must not have been any money involved for them like it was in going over to Iraq, once again claiming to have justifiable cause. I quess Africa is not worth the cause !!!
