Mandela Removed From U.S. Terrorist List
July 3rd, 2008The 90-year-old ex-president of South Africa has been unwelcome for many years
Following a national outcry which even included comments of outrage from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the United States government will finally remove former South African President Nelson Mandela’s from a U.S. terrorism watch list. The international icon and Nobel Peace Prize winner’s treatment by the U.S. government urged lawmakers to introduce a bill to take him off the list. President Bush signed the bill Tuesday. “He had no place on our government’s terror watch list, and I’m pleased to see this bill finally become law,” said Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry. Mandela, the former head of the African National Congress, was the jailed for 24 years during the heyday of apartheid, the South African regime’s longtime system of racial separation that was brutally enforced by the White minority government for 46 years. South African dubbed the apartheid-fighting ANC a terrorist group. Thus ANC members were denied U.S. visas, without special permission. Mandela was released from prison in 1990 and, four years later, apartheid officially crumbled, but the leader’s name remained on the U.S. terrorist watch list. Under the new bill, both the State Department and Homeland Security Department have the power to dissolve the restrictions against Mandela and fellow ANC members. “What it will do is make sure that there aren’t any extra hoops for either a distinguished individual, like former President Mandela, or other members of the African National Congress to get a U.S. visa,” State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.

I’m surprised to hear that his name was on there to begin with. It’s rather disappointing that it took an act of Congress to remove it, why couldn’t Bush just pick up the phone and call Condi and Chertoff and say remove it if he knew it was there?
So now after eighteen years, his name is being removed from the U.S. Terrorist List. Why was Nelson Mandela but on a U.S. terrorism watch list?

I applaude Condalezza Rice for stepping up and having Mandela’s name removed from the “terrorist list” which in fact, I had no idea he was on and what for? But that is neither here nor there now.

Now this is really funny. What fool put him on the list in the first place and for what reason? We have white terrorist here in American and they aren’t on any terrorist list, they are just out there running butt wild. We have police officers that need to be on terrorist lists the way they behave as they lie about how they serve and protect. Terrorists that are true problems are not on the “list” so someone is wasting a lot of time checking on and tracking the wrong folks.
The fact that his name was still on the list should speak volumes about the nature of organized racism worldwide. You’ve got a living icon’s name on the same list as Osama Bin Laden, are you kidding?? I MEAN SERIOUSLY??? We’ve come so far yet we have soooooooooo much farther to go! And look at the situation in South Africa, Johannesburg is one of the world’s most dangerous cities, the country’s economic infrastructure is a disaster and the medical resources are sooooooooooo uneven in terms of what blacks and whites get, without question!!!!!

I thank God for his faithfulness. Former-President Nelson Mandela fought and stood for what he believed; “that all men are created equal.” He reminds me of “Job”. He was tried by the enemy, but he never let go of this faith. Those who know the story, God gave him back double of everything he lost. Here stands a man with the same determination, faith and hope. It was indeed a honor and pleasure to see Former President Mandela accepting the Nobel Peace Prize, in Philadelphia, PA, with honor, dignity, integrity and respect. Thank God for a man like this for such a time as this.
After all is said and done…South Africa is now going to the dogs.
If there is any body that is suppose to be keeping the List of Terrorist in the whole wide world i think it will be Mandela,but as it is they say his name is on the list. Well, what can we say but tell Nelson Mandela to keep doing the doing the good things he knows how to do best because that kind of propaganda only go a long way in making him MORE POPULAR.
