Marion Jones Speaks Out About Her Jail Time

Marion Jones

Marion Jones speaks out about her jail time.

Saying she will focus on efforts to help children learn from her mistakes, recently released Olympian Marion Jones gave her first interview to Oprah Winfrey since being stripped of five Olympic medals and serving several months of jail time for lying in court about using steroids. Once the world’s most famous woman sprinter, Jones still insists she didn’t knowingly take performance-enhancing drugs, believing they were a diet supplement. “I’m trying to move on,” she told Winfrey. “I hope that everybody else can move on, too.” Asked about her lowest moment while jailed, Jones said “so many things to count.” She concluded that missing the birthdays of both her 5- and 1-year-old sons topped the list. Jones wept as she read a letter she’d written to the boys while incarcerated. But she expressed a new pleasure at having people deal with her as a non-sports heroine. “I appreciate, so much, the little things,” Jones added. “I am energized by this next chapter.”

I don’t feel sorry for her because: #1-what she did was wrong. She knew it and she shouldn’t have done it. But…
#2-She should have taken it to her grave with her. All these years later, she suddenly felt the need to come clean and ruin not only her legacy, but she also tarnished the reputation of her former teammates. She’s lucky she only served 6 months. Alot of corporate big wigs–mostly white men, lie DAILY to make a buck and they keep MUM. She shoulda asked God to forgive her and kept her mouth SHUT!!

i believe she wouldhave takin it to the grave with her… Ithink that somepne had caught her her and rather than be exposed she chose to come clean cause it looks a hell of a lot better to admit somethin to 2 be caught red handed but i feel like she knew all along what she was doing there is no way she didnt there is no grown person who has been a professional athlete as long as she was who knows how USATF feels about banned substances would drink a water bottle without reading the label she isnt that ignorant imma give her a lil more credit than she is givin herself

Saw the interview. Ms. Vee, she doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her, she just want people to forgive her, accept her and move on. Throughout the interview she acknowledged that she blames herself and that her being a convicted felon was due to her bad choices. But yeah, I would have gone to my grave with that lie…no pics, no tapes, then it didn’t happen. I am proud of the way she is handling herself.

Marion, keep your head up and always put GOD first!!!!

This is crazy and Vee who ever you are, you don’t have to feel sorry for the lady, but you have to admit that the punishment was extreme. I mean ok, take the medals, but jail time! Boy they love throwing us in jail and not just because she’s black, but jail for this extreme in any case. However I’m sure the severness of the punishment does have something to do with race. Then how do you sound saying “She should have asked God to forgive her then shut up”! Ask for forgiveness and then lie huh! WOW! No she admitted it, but I’m sure she never thought that she would have to go to jail. Jail is for the physically and mentally hard core, not for some athlete that use steriods. That sentence was some BS.

I hear y’all and I respect our difference of opinion(s). But we as a community have to remember that when WE do something wrong, the system loves punishing us! Of course there are far-worst crimes being committed, and some criminals don’t serve a day in jail much less six months. But this is why Marion Jones shouldn’t have done what she did. I apply the same logic to Detroit’s Mayor, T.I., and all of the black people who’ve been blessed with major success yet can’t resist criminal activity. I respect Marion Jones but I don’t have any sympathy for her, and I still say she should have stayed mum about it. But to be honest, the real reason I’m annoyed is that Oprah re-aired her interview with her at 2am this morning when I wanted to see a recap of the Phillies win since I couldn’t sleep:-)

P.S. Jakori-we’ve all done wrong–and if we keep livin’ we’ll continue to mistakes. But that doesn’t mean we can’t ask God for forgiveness, and receive it! If I’d lied about taking performance-enhancement drugs, steroids/whatever–and years passed without anyone knowing, I doubt that I would have come clean. I have to tell you the truth. But I would have asked God to forgive me and I would’ve done my best not to do it again. I didn’t say Marion Jones should lie about it while seeking forgiveness. There’s a difference between SHUTTING UP, not saying a word versus lying. I think you misunderstood what I said/meant.

I love you Marion Jones and keep your head up! Everybody make mistakes. It’s hard being black in america mainly because they lock us up for everything.

As long as she admitted her wrongs and ask for forgiveness that’s all that matters. As long as God forgives her that’s all that matters. Who are we to judge her? There is only one judge and that is JESUS. I’m pretty sure she has learned from this and she should move on. Marion keep your head up, stay focused and be strong for your kids. May God Bless and keep you in perfect peace.

People have a tendency to want to judge-judge-judge. But it is no one place to judge anyone, we are not maker nor creator. He has the final say. I’m not saying that she was right because she was wrong on so many levels. However if some had something on her or not, she told. Which is more than can be said for other people!! The fact that she told makes her a CUT ABOVE THE REST. Even those who judge, don’t accept the apology, keep bring it back up. One day you will need someone to forgive you, I pray that they don’t treat you the way you have treated others.

GOD BLESS….!!!

It is very interesting that they seem to RAILROAD the Black / LATINO athletes such as BARRY BONDS, HOSE CONSECO, MARION JONES, while White athletes like LANCE ARMSTRONG, MARK MCGWIRE, etc. seem to always keep their “heroic” titles and we never hear another peep about their steroid exploits.

There is a double standard, for sure!!

despite what everybody else says i applaud the fact that she came clean whether it be by choice or necessity. She didn’t have to but made a very dramatic choice. Her mind is now clear , God has forgiven her, and so should we and like she said…move on.

Move on with your life Marion…raise your children, educate others and be the woman that The Almighty created you to be. No one on this site can throw stones at her. Yes, we all have sinned, some more than others; however, we didn’t come clean about it for fear of the consequences. Let’s move on people…we have a historic election about to take place in 5 days. Get out and vote….if you live in a state that provides early voting please take advantage of it.

She had no other choice but to confess; she lied under oath and the feds were able to prove it. I think it was wrong for Marion to do prison time for lying. I also believe she was using steroids for a long time and she knew it was wrong but she wanted to be the best and she got caught. Her associations with her ex-spouses were her down fall.

Bill clinton lied and served no time.

American system is racist period. police can kill without any repurcussion, white men can steal pensions, ruin people lives, ~#%# and *%#*~* and get away scott free. And then we bail their companies out after they steal from us.

Blacks are never safe and free in America.. you can believe the hype if you want to.

Sharonda must be Steppin Fetchit’s daughter with such poor spelling and grammar. Some people do not need an internet account.

I have a mixed feelings about Ms Jones case. First and formost, She should have kept her mouth shut and consistently deny the whole thing and take it to her grave. We know a lot of folks are guilty of same stuff she was sentenced to jail for. But she spoke up and paid the price and now out and should welcome the new lonely life of regular Jane. She will be alright, but should consentrate in knowing God more and HE will guide her to her real destiny.

WOW…I love you Marion Jones and keep your head up! .I just read this on a hot forum on tall dating site http://Tallmingle.com which is a hot dating site for all tall friends and tall singles.

He who is without sin cast the first stone, let’s learn to love more and judge less, think about your past and what you did that people know about and what you did that only you and god knows, i think that alone should keep your judging to yourself and have more forgiveness in your heart.
Ms. Jones I pray that everything work out for you, Always know that the only difference between us and you is that some of us got cought and some did not and some were dishonest to the end but you told the truth. I admire that fact that you told the truth and that hopefully
WE ALL can learn from you. Hold your head up we all have done wrong and when people wake up and admit , we will have more compansion for each other. I think Micheal Jackson said it best in one of his songs “You Are Not Alone”, everyone is not against you and I pray everything work out for you.
