Michael Vick’s Sentence Reduced

November 26th, 2008

Michael Vick

Michael Vick’s sentence is reduced. Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Surry, Va., court to a state dogfighting charge, a move that could make him eligible for early release from prison and a quicker return to pro football. Vick, 28, also pleaded not guilty to a count of cruelty to animals, but that charge was dropped under his plea deal. He received a three-year suspended sentence – significantly less than the maximum of 10 years he could have faced. For now, Vick is serving a 23-month sentence in Leavenworth, Kan., on federal charges of bankrolling a dogfighting operation at the home he owned in eastern Virginia’s rural Surry County, southeast of Richmond. He also admitted to participating in the killing of several underperforming dogs.

I think that the charges on Vick are rediculous. There are plenty people out there that are committing white collar crimes that affect a lot of people, and all they have to do is pay fines; they dont get any jail time. I think that they should let Vick pay fines and leave the man alone.

First ,I am a dog owner and lover, I don’t agree with dog fighting practices, but I am also a person who disagrees with professional boxing, to me, that seems just as inhumane, two men beating each others brains out all in the name of “sport”. I feel what Micheal allowed to happen was wrong, I feel he made a poor choice and at the end of day that is what life is about, a collage of good and bad choices. I believe Micheal has learned from this experience. I believe in the future he will make better choices. I believe he will emerge a better sports personality than he was before he was sentenced. It is easy to get blind sided when you are trying to help others, especially family members. I believe he will no longer be influenced by folks who do not have his best interest at heart. He appears to be a good person who made a poor choice as we all have at some point in our lives.
I wish Micheal and his family all the best. I look forward to seeing him on the field again.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All

Go forward with diginity and pride, but be humble inside

No Cindy if he had been a regular person he would not have been in there in the first place.

sally Said on

no cindy had he been a regular you would be writing on this forum, simply because you would have never heard a thing about it.

David what are you some kind of a freak you are always writing about dropping soap, or is that you have been locked up and know what happens when soap is dropped.

I am so glad to hear that Vick has the opportunity to get out early and go to a half way house, he shouldn’t have been locked up in the first place, I am not saying he was right for what he did, however I am saying that the sentence was much to harsh. I agree with Johnny100% I believe that Vick took that deal because of evidence on his property (and probably had little to do with the fights, and killng of the dogs). And for people like Cindy who feel that he shouldn’t be released early and that his money afforded him that you are wrong that is a program offered by the federal prison system to all inmates and it was available long before Vick went there. And for those who feel that Black Americans are using the race card: what Vick did had absolutely nothing to do with race, however what happened in the justice system had everything to do with race. There are many many white dog fighter out there who have been prosecuted and have had a larger ring than Vick’s they didn’t go to prison but recieved fines, costs and probation and you never heard a word about it, and of course PETA did not get involved. I have never seen the Feds get involved in a case involving dogfights, not before and I haven’t seen it happen since. How many times have you seen a judge release to the public characters letters, never. i know that most White Americans want to believe that racism doesn’t exist, but you are wrong it does exist and especially when it comes to black men, and if the have the money that Vick has it is even worse. And if you don’t believe that try being black for one day and then come back and say that it does not exist. I am glad that Vick is heading home and I hope that he has truly learned from this experience and is truly sorry for what has happened. He is a young man and has time in his life to repair the damage. Good luck to him

Hope you leave all of those hanger-ons behind like they did you Vick. You got something they don’t have…a better future, get to it Brother.

The brotha shouldn’t have went down for dogs anyway. You got white devils free out on the streets doing people wrong. And he’s in jail for dogs?! The U-Mess gov’nent is crazzzy!!!

Michael Vick is a disgrace and I hope he goes to hell and gets everything he deserves. If he was not cuaght him and all his buddies would still be doing this horrible thing today!!!

Anthony Perkins Said on

HELL YEAH! I’ll be waiting for a real Quarterback to break’em off again!! Holla, if you Agree!

Shanda Said on

Jessica there are many dogfighters out there, you make this sound like dogfighting stopped when Vick was locked up well it didn’t. This didn’t start with Vick nor did it end because he is not here. You really need to be more careful about what you hope for it just may come back and haunt you. I don’t know if they would be doing the same thing or not had they not been caught and neither do you, but guess what they may not be doing the same thing but you can rest assured that someone else is.

I could not begin 2009 without thinking and praying for Michael Vick, hoping
that prison life is not too harsh for him. I understand that what Vick did seems harsh and even cruel, but I also understand the many demons that
swarmed upon him as a result of his enormous and well-deserved fame and fortune. At times, Michael seemed to want to self-destruct–perhaps in an attempt to return to a normal rather than the charmed life, which brought
him the worst demon of all: the green monster of envy, even from those whom he trusted and supported. It is my sincere hope that this costly timeout allows Michael Vick to return to us better than ever, with a self-knowledge that allows him to enjoy rather than abhor his success. I love Michael Vick–as do millions of others too socially afraid to admit it.

I hope he is sore coming out of there he is not a real man, a real man will not harm things that can not fight back. he is a sorry excuse for a human!!

reggin Said on

why do blacks always see it as the white man going after the black man? stop making excuses… if michael vick was white he still should have gotten the same treatment. with that said im glad he is getting out early and hope he learns from his mistakes.
