Minor-League Pitcher Could Face Prison Time For Assault On Fan

July 29th, 2008

Peoria Chiefs Player Allegedly Hit Spectator In Head With Ball.
The Peoria Chiefs’ Julio Castillo could face up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine if he’s convicted of deliberately hitting a fan with a pitch during a Class A game’s brawl last week. The minor-league fracas between the Chiefs and Dayton Dragons resulted in 15 player and manager ejections. Castillo is shown on camera winding up and throwing a ball that allegedly struck spectator Chris McCarthy, 44, in the forehead. McCarthy was treated at a hospital in Dayton. Castillo, 21, was tackled to the ground after throwing the pitch, and later jailed. The Dominican Republic native’s passport was revoked. He’s free after posting bond.

Intentionally throwing at a defenseless fan is simply criminal. Some of these pitchers throw in excess of 90 MPH or more and to hit someone in the head is blatant disregard for human life (thats why they give players helmets when facing pitchers) and he should be jailed, fined and DEPORTED. Just because this idiot is a professional athlete shouldn’t excuse him from punishment under the law. There have been too many incidents involving ball players where they get off for crimes the average Joe gets punished for and that’s a really bad message our youth are getting. First punish him here and then deport his azz !!!

He should be charged and sentenced and deported because he knew exactly what he was doing and he intended to seriously hurt that fan and could have killed him. He is a dangerous person.

Niecie Said on

Whatever punishment he gets is deserved because he could have killed or did some permanent damage to that man. I mean imagine a hard azz ball thrown at you which hits you in the head. WTH!!! If Castillo meant to hit that man then heck yeah that was wrong. Athletes need to stop thinking they can do what they want, when they want and not get punished for it. I hope this guy is alright.
