A mother and stepfather are charged with starving their teen
. A father and stepmother were charged with withholding their 14-year-old daughter’s food and water so drastically that she weighed only 48 pounds, authorities said. Jon Pomeroy, 43, and his wife, Rebecca Long, 44, could face as much as four years in prison if convicted of criminal mistreatment, prosecutor’s spokesman Dan Donohoe said. The couple was released on bail late Monday after the charges were brought. The girl was removed from the family home near Carnation, about 20 miles east of Seattle, in August after a neighbor called child welfare authorities. The veteran detective who investigated “said this is the worst case he’s ever seen, especially for an ongoing pattern of abuse over several years,” county sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart said. According to prosecutors, Long confirmed to a deputy that she considered the girl a behavior problem and restricted her water as discipline. The woman said she had been home-schooling the girl and her 12-year-old brother for four years. The girl, who is 4 feet 7 inches tall, told authorities that she was given primarily toast to eat and only about 6 ounces of water per day. She said her stepmother even watched when she brushed her teeth to make sure she didn’t drink extra water. According to an affidavit filed by a deputy investigating the case, the girl was forced to sleep in the same room with Long after her stepmother caught her drinking water from the toilet during the night. The girl told the deputy that she didn’t use the faucet because she didn’t want to waken her stepmother. In response, the affidavit says Long put a heavy dresser in front of the door of the bedroom they shared to keep her stepdaughter from avoiding her punishment.

It is really sad to know that some people actually think they are doing the right thing in the worst situation. Rationalization was not distributed equally. I pray that this couple gets the psychiatric treatment they so desperately need and I am sure this young girl can possibly be traumatized for life. My prayers go out to her. I am sure that the therapeutic value of our social and legal system has started her recovery today. My hats off to a very brave and caring neighbor. They should be commended…
Now if Michael Vick went to jail for dogs. They they should get death.
First of all a lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves for taking this as a JOKE, not all of you but the ones that are putting STUPID COMMENTS. Second this stepmother and father should be BEAT AND STARVED TO DEATH!!!! No child deserves this, there are actually people in America that can’t feed their kids because of difficult living situations, but to have the money and food and you decided to starve your child as a punishment, these parents need more than four years. Send the mother to prison I bet the ladies will give her a “NICE WELCOME” for starving her child and they can’t even see their children. We as parents and citizens need to stop joking about this because it’s not funny at all!!! GROW UP PEOPLE!! May God Bless that little girl to have a better life from now on!!

It doesn’t matter what the color of the people are. They should be punished for doing that to a child (innocent) at that. What ever happened to “this hurts me as much as it hurts you?” That’s what my mom used to tell me.
OK. This is super sickening. What in the hell has happened to our common decency when in situations such as this that we are more concerned with race than grace? This child is safe now thanks to a concerned neighbor. Note: CONCERNED neighbor. Color shouldn’t be an issue but when we have to leave comments such as these…obviously it is.

What does race have to do with a innocent child being starved as a form of punishment? What matters most is the trauma that this young girl has gone through and the effects that it is going to have on her future. It’s a shame that some parents could actually do these types of things to their own children. Where are the parents natural instinct to protect their babies?

y’all….race is nothing here. This little angel is recooperating and in good health now. The father and stepmonster need suffer…..I feel bad for the family involved. From what I hear HIS family was the only ones involved in thier lives, not the mothers, so they should suffer too knowing somethin was wrong. You can’t live & speak to someone in the same household and NOT know what was happening. SHAME ON THE WHOLE LOT OF THEM!
