NAACP: Help Spare the Life of Innocent Inmate

June 22nd, 2009

The NAACP, Amnesty International and other leading human rights groups are urging everybody to get involved in helping spare the life of Troy Davis, whom they argue is about to be executed for a murder he never committed. “The interest of the state is in the truth,” NAACP President Ben Jealous told the Savannah Morning News Saturday. “If Troy Davis was convicted on lies, then the truth is, a killer’s on the loose.” Jealous, who was in Savannah Friday as part of “I AM TROY,” wants District Attorney Larry Chisholm to reopen the case and find the “real” murderer. Davis, 38, was convicted in 1991 for the shooting death of off-duty Savannah, Ga., Police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail. However, seven of the nine witnesses who identified Davis as the killer during the initial trial have since recanted their testimony. Despite several appeals – and having his execution delayed on three separate occasions – Davis remains on death row at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison near Jackson. On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court will likely consider the latest challenge by attorneys for Davis. So how can individuals get involved? Jealous says that those wanting to make an impact should go to the “I Am Troy” Campaign (http://iamtroy.com/), sign the petition and let Gov. Sonny Perdue know that you are outraged by the possible execution of an innocent man.

Please don’t let these Georgia Haters trample this man’s civil rights and let him go. Do Not Put Him To Death for a crime he didn’t commit. You can’t bring him back once you make this mistake. Please reopen the case. Face the truth no matter you’re personal embarrassment. Save this man’s life. I’m begging, please, please don’t do this.

I believe that some crimes are so evil that the death penalty is the only suitable punishment. With that said, there must be absolutely no doubt that the individual who is to be executed is absolutely guilty. There is too many questions surrounding the Troy Davis case. He might be quilty, but if he is innocent, the State of Georgia can never adequately pay Mr.Davis or the family of Police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail (and I’m sure would want the real murderer face justice). Circumstantial evidence, which has caused too many innocent people to suffer torture, incarceration and death, is pointing accusing fingers at same the judicial system that put Mr.Davis on death.

i think it is wrong to excuted a man and there is reasonable doudt. When taking a life in this kind of situation you would think the justice system would want to be sure they are excuteing the rite MAN. Please reopen the case be sure its the right thing to do.

The NAACP, is a joke in Florida, and if they are representive in any kind of way of the way that they protect disadvantaged people, then you can write that brother off. May God keep you brother….

If the Supreme Court would disallow DNA evidence which would free an innocent person already serving time, can we reasonably expect for justice to be served in the case of Mr. Davis? May God help us all.

This has been going on for years, and now the NAACP is steping up . this is a shame, that it take a man life to see the madness that is going on in southern disrict of GA. instead of white sheet they ware black sheet now.

We all live in a world where wrong is right and right is wrong only this young man knows if he did this crime or not and it’s unfortunate that the real truth may not be found out if this young man’s life is to come to an end. So much is hidden from the public’s eyes. But, not hidden from GODS eyes. If he did do this crime then justice is served , if he didn’t then we can rest assure that he will be with our Father in Heaven because of his innocense. May GOD bless us all.

From Georgians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty -

Call DA Larry Chisolm! If the Supreme Court chooses not to intervene, the Chatham County District Attorney will have to decide whether to pursue justice, or an execution warrant. Call his office at 912-652-7308 and let them know you would like the DA the re-open Troy’s case. If you live in Georgia or Chatham County, tell them you’re a concerned resident. But remember, you do NOT need to be a resident to take this action! Please spread this far and wide so the DA’s office knows Troy has national support.

Call 912-652-7308 and ask that Troy’s case be re-opened!
