National: Abortion Clinic Protester Was Arrested in Oakland; White House Will Review GM, Chrysler Plans

February 17th, 2009

Walter Hoye

Abortion clinic protester was arrested in Oakland. A California man who wanted to intervene on behalf of Black women seeking abortions could get jail time this week. Oakland pastor Walter Hoye was charged with unlawful intimidation of visitors to a medical clinic last summer when he stood on a sidewalk with a sign that read “Jesus Loves You and Your Baby. Can We Help You?” Lawyers for Hoye say that he offers to help Black women, in particular, because they form a majority of the more than 1 million annually who get abortions in America. Though a witness testified that he used no force, the pastor will go before a judge this week to be sentenced for allegedly violating statute. Supporters are rallying behind the pastor, who they say only exercised his free speech.

White House will review GM, Chrysler plans. Two of the former “Big Three” auto companies are expected to present their business plans for restructuring and longevity today in Washington. General Motors and Chrysler execs seeking government assistance in turning around their corporations will offer formal pitches to the Obama administration. “We’re anxious to look at the plans,” says Robert Gibbs, a White House spokesman. Hindered by slow car sales and bleeding from worker layoffs, American automakers are another tender spot in the struggling economy. A boost in the form of government aid is sought by GM and Chrysler, in order to prevent the car industry from further collapsing. The companies will likely ask for billions in financial help.

Since when are we getting arrested for saving a life? These ppl are sad. Just pathetic! Do anything to make a dollar. Even arrest someone for standing up for what he believes in. Its really a shame! They just want us black females to keep on having these abortions so they can keep on making us a statistic. So sad!

I agree, i hope the pastor get exonerated we need ppl like that to stand up and fight for us as AA’s. We need all the help we can get to lower these statistics

He has no business standing there trying to imtimadate no one. It is her right to do what she likes. Keep your thoughts to yourself. No one knows their situation so don’t judge. It isn’t like if she does have it, who going to be there to help her with her expenses and time for 18 years. None of you’ll. That is what is sad. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!! Or be ready for the long haul!

When pastor start acting like men of God maybe their opinion will count for something! Getting pregnant is a choice, not a condition or a disease. So abortions should never take place if responsible. But God gave us freedom of choice therefore what a women does with her body is her choice. Why do women allow themselves to get pregnant if they don’t want to have a baby?
Why do women have babies with criminals that are in and out of jail?
Why don’t some women take birth control to prevent an unwanted pregnancy? I think that to many babies are being born to irresponsible people! Why don’t pastors advocate birth control! But this guy wants to protest. Society should not have to pay for all these babies. I don’t agree with abortion, but I don’t believe in living of welfare either. I am pro responsibility!
after the damage is done.

Women had been getting abortions even before it was legalized in the United States. Prior to Roe vs. Wade women were going to “butchers” to have a fetus removed. Many of the women died from infections and/or bleeding internally and externally. It is true that if you’re going to be sexually active you need to be responsible!! Unfortunately, as we all know things happen. If a woman chooses to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, she should very well have the right too. We have so many young women abusing and murdering babies at this time!! Last week here in New Orleans, we had a 20 year old AA throw a newborn into a lake because was ashamed. If they had excercised their right and chose to have an abortion, they could have prevented some of those sweet little babies from suffering. The pastor has the right to protest!! And women have the right to choose!! No one should interfere with either one!!!!

I’m david’s mom and I wish that I had had an abortions too instead of having my brother’s baby. then david would not be so demented and physically deformed. maybe then he could go to school and get a job instead of sittin around in adult diapers and insulting black folks all day on the internet. i can’t help his IQ is 2 since his brain is only the size of a small peanut. i’m sure getting tired of changin those stinking diapers of david’s blistered red butt.

@Sparkle

If you have to ask, you have made my point.
I think it’s pointless to protest a clinic after the
damage is done. I think pastor should be more
proactive on sundays instead of protesting.
I think women should be more careful about who
they have babies with especially since the women gives
birth! This is the third grade, shortened version for SPARKLE!

Thanks!

Abortion as a form of birth control is wrong. However, there are some women who just should not be allowed to give birth. I’m not saying that this sista is one of either. We don’t know. We don’t need to know. It’s none of our business.
I know this, I’ve never had an abortion, my tubes have been tied. I’ve been happily married for almost 20 yrs. We are parents of 4 wonderful sons. All of that being said, if I become pregnant…one morning I’m going to Starbucks to buy 2 Vendi Mocha Lattes, I’m then driving to the nearest clinc that preforms abortions and wait for the 1st Dr. to pull up. I’m going to hand him/her a cup of coffee in hopes that he/she will have pitty on me and end this very unwanted pregnancy without an appointment and allow me to skip in front of whoever was 1st.
Abortions have been around long before Roe v. Wade. Until R v W women were dying at an alarming rate. Now women have choices. They can raise a baby, put a baby up for adoption, or they can abort.
Whatever choice we as women make it’s OUR CHOICE. Pastor 2muchfreetimeonhishands, does not have to the right to “block” that right.
