Gays Set to Protest Preacher at MLK Event
Some gay residents of Atlanta, angry over the choice of the Rev. Rick Warren to speak at the Martin Luther King, Commemorative Service at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, say they will show up in force Monday to protest. Read more here.
King Papers Are Now Available
Scholars and researchers now have access to a treasure trove of civil rights history – thousands of writings and documents of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which have been cataloged and digitized. The papers, which include many of King’s speeches and personal writings accumulated over more than two decades beginning in 1946, are now available at the Robert W. Woodruff Library at the Atlanta University Center. In all, there are about 7,000 pieces of handwritten items, including an early draft of the famous “I Have a Dream” speech, his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech and nearly 100 sermons, some of which never have been published, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Playing a large role in raising the $32 million for the purchase were Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and former Mayor Andrew Young and civil rights lion. “The religious documents are the ones that have not been available to scholars,” said King scholar Clayborne Carson, the founding director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University. Carson, who has spent 20 years trying to make King materials available for future generations, said, “This is a major step forward,” he said. “At the end of this process, it will be a lot easier for researchers to do their work.”

B Cassell I agree with you 100%. Why is it when you don’t agree with folks lifestyle and their behavior people want to say that you are not a christian?
If God didn’t allow this type of behavior way back then he’s not going to except it now!!! Christian folks do not hate gay folks it’s the sinful behavior that’s hard to accept. And that goes for any other sinful behavior that preying upon the minds of men and women!!!

You know it’s funny how those who have endured such hatred and ignorance can find a way to say we are not all equal and look down their noses at others. Last I checked, there is NO superior race.We are all equal and to say gay is an action instead of who they are is 1. a way for you to justify your stance on the subject and 2. Some of those people have went through great depression, loss of family on top of everyday crap from ignorant people.They can’t kiss without all the homophobic people wanting to puke. Remember we make them just as sick. And after all of this (current)adversity, they can be proud of coming out on the other side, happy. Then YOU come along and tell them they are wrong for being true to themselves. YOU MAKE ME SICK!!!!! I guess since slavery is over now, some people have decided to go after gays, You should know better. Oh and in no way am I comparing past slavery to being gay. Although some gay people know discrimination better than young blacks, these days. We can argue left and right about this, but here’s my biggest point. What do you do in bed?,after work/weekends?what sick thoughts are more appropriate, the ones of the same sex, or would children be more appropriate. If you wanna get sick over what people do think about all the sex offenders that live near you. Better yet,look it up. level 3 is for a child, now find how many gay guys turned to #%*?. Most of the sickos in this world look like you and you, stop condemning just cause it’s something you don’t understand.

I am for gay marriage (civil) and gay rights, however they have no business at any church protesting. That is why there is a separation of Church and State. The Church has the legal right to NOT condone gay marriage.

As far as the government is concerned, if I paid taxes and worked like everyone else, I would expect the government to treat me the same way they treat everyone else.

When the sodomites began to hijack the Civil Rights movement to further their demands, why didn’t anyone tell them to “Get lost!”???
Many honorable and courageous people died to overturn injustice and to fight for freedom and equality for people who have been enslaved, beaten and terrorized.
Homosexuals who claim to be victims bring their misery on themselves. Now they’re going to disrupt an event that honors the great Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr. They’ve already protested at churches and harrassed church-goers. Isn’t it time to tell those sodomite gate-crashers that their antics won’t be condoned and that their bullying tactics won’t be tolerated?!?!?Their perverted behavior isn’t forced upon them. The decision to engage in sexual misbehaviour is not forced upon them.
If they are victims, I have one question: Where are the gay ghettos?

Erin, what are you talking about? Gays are not the only one who has gone through alot how can you justify people bahavior or even their actions. Again, there’s no way to justify such behavior. And as far as understanding I understand it well. The bible speak of such behavior and God destroyed them. God despise sin period! I don’t care who or what you have done it’s called sin!!! No one is in a place to judge one another but only to pray for each other. NO ONE IS JUDGING FOLKS! I will not stand for something I know that’s not pleasing to God! Stop thinking that only blacks are fighting against gay marriages the caucasion are fighting against it also! That’s why I said read the WORD Of GOD!!!! It is so sad that people think that someone choose to be gay and refuse to believe that god did not create everybody. I am so glad that Dr. and Mrs. King were not haters. And when I look at friends of mine that are African American, Blind from birth and Gay why would they choose to be gay and why would a little person (midget) choose to be gay there are gay people in all walks of life and these people who calls theyselves Christian are nothing but HATERS. And they have children out of wedlock, sleeping around with different people, Preachers sleeping with members of the church yet they see themselves are pure and christian? When I hear the song pay my phone telephone bills, Push it real good people stop hateing learn to love everybody it is not hard to do and remember there were Gay people in the March on Washington with Dr. King.

Many homosexuals wave their sexuality around like a flag… what they do with their bodies is their personal business & only the True Christian GOD will judge them! But that does NOT give them the RIGHT to try interfere with other Christians’ RIGHTS to their beliefs in the Bible. Excuse me but That would be a constitutional violation. Just because someone calls themselves a “Christian” does not mean they are if they are not believers in the Christian Word! Please leave the MLK celebrations & celebrants alone!
