National News: Barry Bonds’ Record-Breaking Ball Reaches Cooperstown; A Silly Game Lands A Mother In Jail.

Barry Bonds’ best baseball’s been branded. But it still made its way into the Cooperstown, N.Y. Hall of Fame after much controversy. Following urban entrepreneur Marc Ecko’s $752,467 purchase of the souvenir from Bonds’ Major League record-breaking 756th home run in a Web auction, Ecko let the public vote to brand the ball with an asterisk, symbolizing Bonds’ widely suspected steroid use. After a back-and-forth this week between the Hall and Ecko, who Bonds called an “idiot,” over whether the ball would be a loan or gift, the Hall’s spokesman Brad Horn announces: “We are very happy to receive the baseball as a donation, and not as a loan. We look forward to adding this ball to our permanent collections.” Bonds has threatened to boycott the Hall of Fame. He was indicted on perjury charges for allegedly lying to a grand jury, in connection with his alleged use of steroids.
A silly game lands a mother in jail
The mother of a 10-year-old boy and a teenage girl has been arrested after allegedly driving a car on which the two youths were “car-surfing” before being thrown off and seriously injured. The names of the victims were not released because of their age. Police say that the boy, who is in critical condition at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, is suffering from serious head trauma; the teen was treated and is now in good condition, police said. “It seems ludicrous that anybody would do that,” said Sgt. Marcus Booth of the San Antonio Police Department. “There’s plenty of room in the car, so we don’t know why she did it. It really looks like poor judgment.” The mother was allegedly driving the car while the youngsters stood on the hood. When she hit the brakes, the kids went flying and rolled into the street, police said. Police say they do not know exactly how fast the woman was driving and noted that she did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol.
That is a shame. All I can say is that she is unfit. Who in their right mind would allow their children to ride on TOP of a moving car???? And then for her to slam on the brakes….. We need to pray for those poor kids!!!
Not everybody should reproduce but on the other hand…she might be a good parent who made a very dangerous mistake. Sometimes parents do dumb stuff trying to be the kid’s friend instead of the parent. Lesson learned…you gotta be the parent or as in this case…your kids could suffer.

What does her being non-black have to do with anything? That was just dumb all the way around.
If she was/is black, they would have included that detail in the story because that’s how they report the news.
i see kids playing this game all the time, the fact that a parent was involved just makes it worse she should have known better i would never do that to any kid let alone my own i know she did’nt mean for anyone to get hurt but their lucky no one was killed, its just not worth it.so next time be a responsible parent grow up and stop trying to be your kids friends they need parents not grown ass hommies
BARRY BONDS has only been INDICTED, NOT found GUILTY, so why is the ball being altered to indicate his guilt? This is another ploy to destroy the character of an African American man that beat the odds in athletics. What a shame!
MOTHER WHO LET KIDS SURF ON CAR AS SHE DROVE – Put her underneath the jailhouse, she is just crazy. She does not deserve to be in society and I feel sorry for her children.
If she was not under the influence of alcohal she had to be under the influence of something.

She must not love her kids if she did that. A true mother wouldn’t do that they’d make them sit in the car. The boy could have sat on the teen agers lap.

The mother was Latino and she was going 20 to 30 mph before she hit the breaks and she didn’t seem to be worried about the the kids.

She was down right wrong for letting those children do that. Anyone in their right mind would think hey, I may hurt these kids, let me stop and find a safer game to play with them.I love my children to death and can’t even begin to comprehend how she could think that was cool!
All I can say is DCFS needs to get involved immediately!There was a story like this one in St.Louis,MO where the boy was 18 years old on the hood of a car with his friend driving and the driver hit the brakes and the boy fell off hit his head and died three days before GRADUATION.They were white boys and the friend didn’t get charged they said it was an accident.Now I want to see what happens with this!

playing around with a child or anybod life is dangerous. i believe that if the mother of this child would have took a moment and thougaboutat if i hurt mychild playing games with him lying on the hood of this car? i could kill him. if she loved her child this much she would of never thoughtof doing a stupid thing like this. i have no sympathy for her what ever the court do to her thats on her because she knew better than that.
