If you’ve ever been to any major metropolitan city in the United States, especially in the downtown area, perhaps you’ve been asked this question, “Do you have some change?” Well, San Francisco wants to put a stop 
to that. City residents list panhandling as their top complaint, more so than violent crimes, and in an effort to keep residents from being annoyed by panhandlers, the city is converting some parking meters. Instead of giving your extra change to a beggar, the city wants you to put in a so-called homeless meter. Homeless Policy Director Dariush Kayhan said while giving money to someone on the street may feel good, it’s not helping them one bit because most of them use it for boos and drugs. The change collected from the meters would go to charities to help the homeless. The city says the project, which is expected to bring a few thousand dollars a year, is not about the money but to educate the public about giving money directly to the homeless. The goal, of course, is to reduce the number of panhandlers on the streets. The meters are set to be in place this summer, and San Francisco has already come up with a slogan: Be part of change, don’t give change. Baltimore, Md., Portland, Ore., and Denver are cities that have the homeless meters. Do you think the meters are a good idea, or do you believe they are insulting?
Mural of Barack Obama Defaced in Atlanta
Who would deface a mural of Barack Obama? That’s what business owners in the Little Five Points area in Atlanta want to know. Phil Sims told WGCL in Atlanta Monday that he was sickened to see what someone had done to the Obama mural,
adding that the area had a mural of Martin Luther King Jr., that had never been defaced. Cameron Wilthshire, who created the mural with another artist, told the Atlanta TV station that “the eyes were blacked out and there was a swastika on his forehead.” Wilthshire said there are those who just aren’t ready for a Black president, and they can’t wrap their head around the thought. He said if the mural is defaced again, he’ll just paint over it.
More Ford Layoffs
It’s looking more like a summer of discontent in Detroit with more job cuts coming to Ford Motor Company. As many as 2,000 white-collar workers could soon be shown the door. Ford officials won’t confirm, but the so-called involuntary layoffs involve anywhere from 10 to 12 percent of the company’s salary workforce. The layoffs would be in addition to the 250 salaried workers the company laid off earlier this year and the 1,350 white-collar workers who retired early under a special program
this idea is bad
The homeless meters are great! but only if the money truly go to the homless. Sorry I don’t true much of what goes on with moneies that are donated. With these meters in people with not be getting attack because they don’t have or want to give money. The homeless can actually get the help they need instead of drinks and drugs. These should go nation wide in every city and help make this place a better world. GREST START, WE AS A COUNTRY HAVE TO SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! LET’S GET THESE PEOPLE REAL HELP NOT MORE DRUGS !
That money for the homeless I’m sorry to say will go straight into someone’s pocket. This world is sooo messed up that people actually believe that homeless meters will stop panhandling. I feel like if you relenquish cash to someone unless you specify what you want this poor soul to do with his winfall doesn’t belong to you anymore. These people need money now for what ever reason not after the meter is emptied and divied up among the powers that be.

If the people that use the money for drugs and alcohol aren’t benefiting from the meters, won’t they still go around asking for money?

I think the homeless meters are very cool things to get up and running. And i say this because it will amazingly flee all of the fake homeless people driving away all of the illegal money they may make while driving a $40,000 mercedes Benz!!!

When a person ask for change their need is immediate. The bible teaches us to give, not to question why. It is easy for a lawmaker who makes 60,000+ dollars per year to voice his belief. But if you have never been homeless, where do you data or opinion come from?

Why is that? Why do people that look alike and basically come from the same country…hate and disrespect each other so much? Can you make me understand that Olounwa? as far as the homeless goes, i think it’s a great idea, that way we know our money is going for something positive.
I’m not sure if this plan will work or not but something needs to be done! If you have ever been to San Fran you can’t walk three steps with out someone asking for change! As soon as you get off the BART station…here they come!
Meters for the homeless is bad idea. These “monies” will become so tied up in administrative fees and other things that I’m not sure how many homeless people will ever benefit from your donation. At least when you give money to a panhandler you’ll know ‘who’ the money went to. Sure, you’ll have no idea ‘how’ the money was used…but you won’t know that by using the meter either. I think its pointless.
Many people dont realize thatin america this will be the first time a Black person was ever nominated for a presidential position in our country. Iam so glad the artist ofthe Mural is destermined to keep the mural up by “painting over it.”
