National News: The Rev. Jackson To Lead March On Wall Street; Three Milwaukee Cops Sentenced For Biracial Beating

November 30th, 2007

\The Rev. Jackson will lead a march on Wall Street
In this new era of civil rights marches, the Rev. Jesse Jackson says he will lead a stomp up Wall Street next month to protest a U.S. financial system that would allow the masses to suffer in the festering mortgage mess. Daily, foreclosures across the United States pile up, triggered largely by the widespread issuance of late-blooming high-interest loans. And, as report after report confirms, Black Americans are the ones who are feeling the brunt of the so-called “sub-prime” loan crises. The NAACP has launched a class-action suit, targeting unscrupulous mortgage lenders who issued loans to many unwitting borrowers, who learned the hard way that unbelievably low introductory interest rates should not have been believed. In many instances, once the initial rates expired after a year or so, borrowers were strapped with payments that were too much to bear, and they lost their homes. Jackson wants the banking industry to jump in to help rescue drowning homeowners. “We want the City Council to pass a resolution to convene lenders to agree to freeze or have a moratorium on foreclosures and renegotiate and restructure and not repossess,” he said. Should banks take some responsibility in helping struggling homeowners?

Three Milwaukee cops are sentenced for beating a biracial man
A judge sentenced three White former Milwaukee Police officers, who severely beat a biracial man outside a housewarming party three years ago, to more than a decade and a half in prison, plus probation and fines. He gave Jon Bartlett, 36, 17 years and four months behind bars, in addition to three years supervision and $16,365 in restitution. Daniel Masarik, 27, got 15 years and eight months in prison. Andrew Spengler, 28, was sent away for 15 years and seven months. Bartlett, Masarik and Spengler were convicted for beating Frank Jude in October 2004. Bartlett likely got the stiffest penalty after being deemed the ringleader, a fact that Jude pointed out to the judge in a statement submitted to the court. Asking U.S. District Judge Charles Clevert to give Bartlett the maximum 20-year sentence, Jude wrote, “You and your fellow police officer friends attempted to kill me and take my life. Mr. Bartlett, you are a disgrace, a disgrace to all police officers, and every public official in the world.” Were the sentenced fair?

No, they should have gotten more. If they were black they would have received stiffer penalities.

no,i feel that they should have gotten more time than they received.if the shoe was on other foot the they would have gotten more time in prisons for what they had did.

They probably do deserve more time, but at least they were punished. Inmates in prison generally do not like cops so I am sure they will get what they really deserve in prison. What goes around comes around. You will reap what you sow.

Yes. Former cops in prison do not fair well so, their hostile environment will be an additional punishment. Their careers in law enforcement are finished and now they have felony records which should prevent them from getting good jobs when they are released – that is – if the laws are applied like they are to everyone else. Plus they won’t be able to exercise their right to vote, carry a weapon, etc. Punishment enough.

Come on now, we all know better! Of course, they should’ve gotten a lot more!!! To protect & serve? Yeah right…they better hope that they’re days in prison be merciful because crooked cops don’t do so well in prison!

Absolutely not!!!!!

Was the beating biracial or the man? Yes, the cops should have received a stiffer sentence.

I’m surprised they got jail time. Every other cop seems to get off. Just look sharp, black people, b/c I believe this will spark off more shoot first “killings” of black/bi-racial people by pig @ss cops. Mark my words!

Their also should be an investagation into these
milwakee police police officers, being call the
punishers,a police gang, because they all wore the
symbols on their car or they were tatoo. It was
an big artical of this police gang in the milwaukee journal sentinal.I think they should
have got the maximum 20 years……

That’s awful that we live in a world were black and white people can’t get along. If they were black men who were cops and jump a white man they would have gave him a life sentence without parole. It’s time that we stand up and help our black community on this hate crime that’s affect us everyday.

Well one it is not going to happen that fair sentencing for all races will EVER happen. Two, no matter what we do there will still be a sensed preferential mercy in the courts for white people. And three, I think they should suffer more than 20 years in prison for beating Jude. Not only will they suffer economically but physically, and mentally while they serve their time. As it is said none of those prisoners in jail are really not to fond of former cops ESPECIALLY since they beat someone who was not white. It is a stigma for all three of them and the amount of years in prison will not add up to the grueling punishments that are to come when the get in. It is said that when some enter into prison they are not the same, or worse THEY NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER COME BACK AGAIN. Basically once those cops are in jail either they’re never the same again, they’re dead men walking, or they will die a slow and painful death. I know one thing for sure I wouldn’t want to be them or be in their shoes because those prisoners won’t be rolling out the welcome wagon.
