NATIONAL: Obama On a Roll; Bush Says He Followed His Conscience

January 16th, 2009

Obama is on a Roll
Perhaps it’s just the honeymoon period, but President-elect Barack Obama is on a roll. Just days before he takes over as America’s 44th commander in chief, he’s pulling the kind of political victories that you’d expect from a second-term president who had just ushered in a four years of peace and prosperity. Instead, the nation is coming off a divisive presidential election, is economically crippled and is mired in two wars. Yet, Obama, who is enjoying high public approval and very low negative ratings, landed an unprecedent win Thursday, as the Senate agreed to free up the second half of the $700 billion bailout package. And the esteemed body voted 52-42 against a resolution that would have prohibited the president-elect from using the $350 billion left in the program. Suggesting a shift in politics as usual, six Republican senators crossed party lines to vote for the release of the funds. Conversely, nine Democrats voted to keep Obama from using the remaining billions. In a letter to senators, Larry Summers, Obama’s economic adviser, sought to reassure that the Obama administration would be responsible with the funds. “We completely agree that this program must promote the stability of the financial system and increase lending, preserve home ownership, promote jobs and economic recovery, safeguard taxpayer interests, and have the maximum degree of accountability and transparency possible. The incoming Obama administration has no intention of using any funds to implement an industrial policy.”

Bush: I Always Followed My Conscience
Bidding farewell to the American people, President George Bush on Thursday acknowledged some missteps during his two-term administration, but he said he always followed his conscience. He also said that despite two unfinished wars, an economy in the toilet, and a nation starkly split along political lines, history would record his successes. “Like all who have held this office before me, I have experienced setbacks,” said Bush in his final speech. “There are things I would do differently if given the chance. Yet I have always acted with the best interests of our country in mind.” He said that although you might not agree with “some tough decisions I have made, I hope you can agree that I was willing to make tough decisions.” Bush delivered his 13-minute address from the East Room of the White House before an audience of 200, including 50 invited guests and members of his cabinet. “As the years passed, most Americans were able to return to life much as it had been before 9/11,” he said. “But I never did. Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our nation. And I vowed to do everything in my power to keep us safe. …There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions,” Bush said. “But there can be little debate about the results. America has gone more than seven years without another terrorist attack on our soil.”

MR OBAMA IS ON A ROLL BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE DEMOCRATS HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE OF AMERICA!! YOU STILL WILL HAVE A FEW ON BOTH SIDES THAT WILL HOLD OUT BECAUSE OF PRIDE AND TO HAVE THE RIGHTS TO SAY I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT SAID NO IF THE LAWS THAT ARE PASSED BY MR OBAMA DON’T WORK.

Red Neck Hunter, you hit the nail on the head, baby! It’s a shame, too, because after all we’ve been through, people still want to hate on hope! What is wrong with them? Deep down they should feel very lonely. I feel for them for their ignorance, and resistance to CHANGE! Nothing happens over night…all good things take patients and strategic planning. Barack is doing just that! Out With the OLD, In With the NEW.

Have hope and pray each day for America . And above all else understand it took Bush 8 years to produce an Administration that for the most part has failed us

Give Mr. Obama and his staff time to peel back each layer of laws, procedures, policies and guidelines looking for the best way to change some thing and time to implement new ideas.

GOD Bless Us

The Truth Speaker Said on

The sad thing about the Presidency, no matter who is in office, is that they have to depend on others for all of their information. They are not allowed to actually get out and meet the people unless it is a photo opportunity of some sort. Pres Bush could only work with the info he was given and the same will be for Pres Obama, just like every President before them. Pres Bush placed people whom he thought he could depend on and they dropped the ball many times. Sad to say but I fear the same will happen for Pres Obama.

The same will not happen to President Obama because he’s smarter and has strong sense of decency and he promises a new kind of government. Don’t underestimate his ability to effect change in the way things are done within his authority. The old guard is gone and this is gonna be a strange and bumpy ride for those diehard, old school folks that have become complacent.
