N.Y. Bakery Makes “Drunken Negro Face” Cookies to Honor Obama

Lafayette Franch Pastry, a New York bakery in Greenwich Village known for its tasty cookies and treats, is coming under fire for a tasteless and racist batch of chocolate treats called “Drunken Negro Head Cookies.” The cookies are dark brown with exaggerated facial features and cherry toppings. Ted Kefalinos, who first introduced the cookies on Martin Luther king Day last week, says he made the cookies to honor Obama. He also admits that he is not an Obama fan but thinks the cookies are a winner for him since every one in his first batch was sold. When customers asked Kefalinos why he made the cookies, he reportedly mentioned Obama and said the new President will “get his” just like Abraham Lincoln who inspires him. “I’m sorry that people were offended by the cookie,” says Kefalinos, who insists his product is not racist. No one got offended when he introduced “Dead Geese Bread” after a U.S. Airways plane crashed in the nearby Hudson River two weeks ago, he argues. Many New Yorkers plan to boycott the shop whose pastries were used in “Sex in the City” and Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever.”

At first I thought he was racist, but after reading the entire story (re: the Geese Bread), then I feel he is simply a psychotic racist.
Just DUMB. What excactly does he mean that Obama will get what Lincoln got??? He is just dumb. If he is not racist why didn’t he make a obama cookie or a white house cookie dipped in chocolate?? Even that would have been more appropriate. Just DUMB he should get cookie dough thrown at him.

Well it’s just like us (Americans) to take a situation and find a way to make money off of it. We shouldn’t be insulted by this one, but I’m quite sure someone will find a reason to be upset. We need to learn how to have a sense of humor about some thing.s

It is obvious that this baker made these idiot cookie for publicity and as he anticipated, he received it. I truly hope every racist comment or gesture will not be glamorize by BET.
African Americans will continue to pop their collars and rise above ignorance.

The offensive part is not that it’s racist, because as racism goes, it’s relatively tame compared to what goes on still. The offensive part is that it’s not funny, the cookies don’t particularly look good, and the point is questionable.
If you wanted to make an Obama cookie, and it had giant ears, for example, that would be kind of mean, but it wouldn’t be racist, and it might be kind of funny, I stress might be, as most confections aren’t particularly funny. But to say “this is for Obama” and then it’s just random racism, well, that’s just plain lazy.
I pray everyday that God covers President Obama with his blood and keep angels aroung him and his family.
However, I am glad that all of this is out in the open. We can see now just how racist people really are.
To be honest, this is the first time since the Civil Rights Movement that African Americans have sticked together and work together for what we believed in! I am soooo happy for my people! We have to continue this!

Well…in all honestly, I am a black woman & I found it VERY amusing…reason being…Barack Obama is now the president of the US. Not just OUR president as black people, but of the whole nation. This is a time of great accomplishment & victory. There is no way something as ridiculous as this will be able to ruffle my feathers…he’s ignorant, point understood. See, I’ve always believed that stupidity is unlearned where as ignorance is learned. Somebody taught this man to be ignorant, he has now proven that, so who the heck cares? Publicity & attention is what he wanted, and BET is giving him just that with this story. We as a nation of people need to learn how to ignore ignorance so that no more of it rubs on us. Barack is leading by example. Something as small as this nonsense probably doesnt affect him, he’s probably ignoring it, and for that reason alone we should too. Whether they like it or not, the people have spoken & as of 1/20/09, we have spoken officially.

When we comment about people like this on blogs or talk about idiots like this with our friends we are just giving these idiots more attention they don’t deserve. Ignoring people with this mentality is the only attention they need.
