Obama Is No Fan of Reparations, Slavery Apology
August 4th, 2008He says that it’s better to focus on education, health care and other programs.
Sen. Barack Obama has introduced another thought into the mix that certainly won’t endear him to the crowd of Black thinkers who say that the United States owes African Americans back pay for hundreds of years of forced labor. “I have said in the past – and I’ll repeat again – that the best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people who are unemployed,” the Illinois Democrat said recently. But, at a time when Obama needs as much support from the Black community as possible. Find out whatelse he said at BET.com/News. Do you believe that Obama’s attempt to become the president of all Americans prevents him from standing up for such issues as affirmative action, reparations or a slavery apology?

alright forget reperations
how about Louisiania, Mississippi, Alabama, Goergia and Florida?
First off, I’m an Obama supporter. The issues of reparations, affirmative action, and an apology for slavery are important, but less not forget that Obama is a politician. Do you honestly think that white folks would even consider, not that they really are anyway, supporting Obama if he was honest/true about what he believes? His entire campaign has been about making mainstream America feel comfortable with him and his ideas. Obama’s strongest asset is that he says what he needs to say and does just enough to get by. I do believe that America owes black folks for slavery, but do you think a check in the mail is going to mend the broken blood lines, broken families and broken spirits of the African-American community? We are in need of more long term commitments from not just the government, more importantly, ourselves. Whether it is McCain or Obama, ain’t much gonna change for black folks until we began being accountable and taking care of ourselves and one another. I support Obama because McCain is like Regan/Bush Jr. all rolled into one, not because I necessarily believe in him.
to UMlaw 1st off the best schools do such as harvard will give you a free ride if you are a low income african american student. but lets face it everyone is’nt going to harvard or let alone get in or maybe thats not there school of choice. some kids are just trying to go to college wether it be an hbcu or another school of there choice. the point im tryin to make is that with the inner city educational sysytem today they are not getting the best tools and opportunities as everyone else in order to progress to get to college alot which leads to lower sat scores, also extra after school programs are being cut back on. all of these tool are nessasary to get into a good school let alone get enough money to pay for it. if a school that im applying to has to choose between me and another student who had the tools they need it to look good on paper then who do you think they are gonna give the most money to?………. thank you. and afermitive action is nothing but a handicapped and proof that rasism still exist if it didnt then why would it be needed a law should not have to be placed in order for you to hire me if im qualified then im qualified. education is key and it should be affordable for us a african americans. look how many things our people have created over many years the child whos educational desires are haulted could be the very next person to cure cancer or aids think about it.
I AGREE WITH OBAMA!!! OBAMA ‘08!!
NOW, WE CAN NEVER FORGET OUR PAST AND WHERE WE COME FROM! NEVER! BUT , WE MUST SUPPORT HIM AND FOCUS ON THE ISSUES @ HAND: EDUCATION, HEATH CARE AND THE OTHER PROGRAMS
I CAN NOT WAIT TO BE APPART OF HISTORY!!
GO OBAMA GO!!!
OBAMA Y’ALL!!!!
LOL see how blacks turn on their own even though he waz raised by white women n his black father skipped town(wat else is new) blacks need to realize they are more racists then whites, i cant see blacks helping out whites as much as whites do for blacks EVER, Blacks are to insecure n never take responsibility
First, let me say that I support Sen. Obama fully for the office of President. However, I disagree with him on the issue. We as a people are entitled to both an apology and reparations. We did it for the Japanesse and it should be done for us.
As a Black American, it is so disheartening to see how Blacks have jumped on Mr. Obama’s bandwagon without questioning anything about him, particularly his character and his indifference to Black Americans. If through some fluke of nature he becomes President, he will not be the first Black president. He will, however, be one of the first obviously brown-skinned presidents, but that is where it begins and ends. It has taken us 246 years to get an apology from the US Government that sanctioned the enslavement of our ancestors. Unfortunately, by our actions towards this particular individual, it feels like we haven’t learned a thing. I would hope that Black Americans will stop waiting for Whites or other races to give us permission. Quite frankly, I know I am an American. I belong here and deserve the same rights and privileges as all citizens of this country. Once we as Blacks realize that, we won’t need validation by an Obama or anyone else. I thank God for giving me the wisdom to know that the only leader I need is Him and I don’t look to man, any man, woman or child, to validate my existence. As Spike Lee said at the end of his film School Daze, WAKE UP!
BRING ME A 140 YEAR OLD BLACK SLAVE AND I WILL GLADLY PAY HIM REPARATIONS FROM MY OWN POCKET all you others can go work and get paid same as everyone else and stop crying about the past…it’s gone and so are the people who may have been owed anything
Who should Pay? the same who payed the Japenese (and they attacked this country for crist sakes) the sme who rebuilt Germany and Sponsored a Jewish homeland. African_ Americans have never declared WAR on America, as a matter of fact some have even defended this country and help to liberate others overseas all the while being denined their basic civil rights right here in “The Land of the Free”!The way you say In sorry in this country is to pay money. Like O. J. owes the “Brown Family” for killing Nicole even though they were not murdered by him themselves. Look in a free republic we do not tell people or the goverment how tospend their money.Case and point my tax money is paying for a illegal WAR that I do not support! 10 billion a month to help the Iraquies, but nothing( that has worked) to support African- Americans. SAD, SAD, SAD, shame on America even SOUTH Africa is ahead of the US in Support and Apologies for past atrosities!
