Obama Monkey T-Shirts A Hot Georgia Item
May 16th, 2008But a major publisher threatens to sue the Atlanta-area bar that’s raking in cash
Scores of people have been protesting the sale of T-shirts, featuring the cartoon monkey Curious George eating a banana with the words “Obama ’08,” at a Georgia pub. But now the bar owner, Mike Norman is facing some new problems as the publishing company that owns the Curious George image is threatening to sue him. “We find it offensive and obviously utterly out of keeping with the value Curious George represents,” said Rick Blake, a spokesman for publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “We’re monitoring the situation and weighing our options with respect to legal action.” Curious George, a popular character in children’s books for many years who now has his own television cartoon series. Blake said that he has not been in contact with Norman or anyone else selling the shirts, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Norman, who owns Mulligan’s Bar and Grill in Cobb County, told the newspaper that he got the T-shirts from someone in Arkansas. His establishment is known for the controversial, ultra-conservative political slogans it plasters out front. This week the number of people protesting the shirts, which they call racist, began to swell. Norman told the Journal-Constitution that while he recognizes the racist roots of the imagery, he has every right to portray Obama as a monkey if he likes. “We’re not living in the (19)40’s,” he said. “Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears — he looks just like Curious George.” One guy called him up and ordered a hundred shirts, said Norman, 63. It is comments like your’s Crybaby that show how much work needs to be done in America. You do not have to vote for him; what God has planned will be. You have the choice to vote how you please. How would you feel if there was shirt that referred to you in a negative way?

LOL-LOL-LOL seems the person who made the T-shirt is going too be sued by the creator of Curious George because of copywright infringement.That aside,the T-shirt is a non issue because of all the important issues in this election.What does the N-word have too do with this topic ? In many other cultures slangs are used within that culture and it pretty much trolls of like water of a duck’s back.

I am offended but not the least bit surprised. I deal with racist people on a day to day basis. I know the ignorance level of many people that live in our “Great US of A”. I believe and support and voted for Obama, however realistically white people make up the majority in the USA. Blacks and Hispanics together only make up about 40% of the US. We have a long way to go and people are not ready.
Well this isn’t any surprise to me and shouldn’t be for any of you either. A lot of white’s are starting to realize that blacks are on the rise, and that we can’t be stopped. It hasn’t even been 100 years and we have a African American getting ready to run the country. Black people. Let us all rise above the imaturity of our once owners. Lets show them that there time is over and that it is now our time to shine.

i find the t-shirt offensive not only does it display outright racism it show that people in this country still view black people as slaves or beneath whites i hope the county in that state really does something about this leagally.

Black People, Norman has the right to show how he feels. My heart goes out to Norman because he is a 63 year old who still hate black people. Let us come together and pray for him because he don’t know what he is doing for his soul. My first impulse was to call him the “N” word, even though he is a white man, but if I’m trying to live to please God, I must be strong not stoop to his leve.
Black People, we cannot allow ourselves to get irate because what other races have to say about us. We are the best and they know we are the best; this frighten them. No matter how much we have accomplished in this country, we will always be animals to them. Don’t be fool because they call themselves our friends; watch as well as you pray. I love ALL of God’s children, I mean ALL of God’s children.
