Obama Monkey T-Shirts A Hot Georgia Item
May 16th, 2008But a major publisher threatens to sue the Atlanta-area bar that’s raking in cash
Scores of people have been protesting the sale of T-shirts, featuring the cartoon monkey Curious George eating a banana with the words “Obama ’08,” at a Georgia pub. But now the bar owner, Mike Norman is facing some new problems as the publishing company that owns the Curious George image is threatening to sue him. “We find it offensive and obviously utterly out of keeping with the value Curious George represents,” said Rick Blake, a spokesman for publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “We’re monitoring the situation and weighing our options with respect to legal action.” Curious George, a popular character in children’s books for many years who now has his own television cartoon series. Blake said that he has not been in contact with Norman or anyone else selling the shirts, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Norman, who owns Mulligan’s Bar and Grill in Cobb County, told the newspaper that he got the T-shirts from someone in Arkansas. His establishment is known for the controversial, ultra-conservative political slogans it plasters out front. This week the number of people protesting the shirts, which they call racist, began to swell. Norman told the Journal-Constitution that while he recognizes the racist roots of the imagery, he has every right to portray Obama as a monkey if he likes. “We’re not living in the (19)40’s,” he said. “Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears — he looks just like Curious George.” One guy called him up and ordered a hundred shirts, said Norman, 63. to be honest, i feel the man is prolly not even racist. controversy sells … look at the replies on this page. he’s just cashing in and given its history, he knew the backlash that would surely come – he just picked what would benefit him more. I’m not that sensitive about a white person calling me a monkey — if i look like a monkey, they simply resemble albino monkeys. I’ve seen it!!! That being said, shut the fool down
Kennedy, you are a fool disguised as an idiot. That comment you made about us “allowing” ourselves to be treated a certain way, only let’s me know how much stupidity we as Black men and women have to get through even before we get to the racists. This man is the epitome of the subversive racism that endangers our children. And that will still affect our children long after Sen. Obama changes the world of politics the way JFK would have were he not killed prematurely.
One of our main problems is that Obama’s speech on racism isn’t being discussed because the mainstream media doesn’t care to educate those that can affect the change in society. White men and women that constantly refuse to accept the reasonings on why we don’t trust or believe that racism will go away, fail to believe it’s history and the effects that it has on our mindset, are the ones that need it most. Or do they just ignore it because it is more common than they want us to believe?
For one thing it does look like Obama, and OBAMA ISN’T BLACK. HE IS HALF WHITE AND WAS RAISED BY A WHITE FAMILY. YOU PEOPLE ARE THE DUMBEST.
Leave the man alone he is just speaking the truth.

I was checking out the bar owners ears when the video was playing. All I can say is he must not have any mirrors in his house(lol). But listen, wait until Houghton Mifflin Harcourt gets thru with him. They take things like this very seriously. This guy is trying to plant a seed but he’ll find that this seed won’t grow!
It is ashame that some people refuse or afraid to go outside of their elements becuase we are all from the same country. It’s one thing to be ignorant as a child but when you reach an age level where you know better then it becomes ridiculous. No matter the skin color, some people will never change or grow up.
Being a Kenyan,i fully support that man of ours,but the big problem is,i dont how people in States are taking this,they are just finding scapegoats to prevent him from the entry to the White House being lead by Clinton whom i think doesnt at all get cooked in a similar pot with Obama.Winning or loosing IT IS THE CHANGE THAT U GUYS ARE SOPPOSED TO SUPPORT.I aint compaigning but…….
