Obama Rejects Illinois’ Gov’s Senate Pick

December 31st, 2008

Burris and Blagojevich

President-elect Barack Obama and congressional Democrats were in lockstep Tuesday in their rejection of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s appointment to take the U.S. Senate seat once occupied by Obama. Democrats had made it clear that they wanted Blagojevich to relinquish his power of appointment given his current legal problems. The governor is accused of trying to sell the Senate seat to the highest bidder. Federal investigators say they taped Blagojevich discussing the worth of the seat. But in a surprise move on Tuesday, the governor defied the Dems and named Roland Burris, a 71-year-old former state attorney general to take Obama’s place in the Senate. Read the rest here.

he looks like my dad not the white one the black one!!.I have the same smile and values!! sometimes I wish I could trade in my white sun burned skin.

I surely can’t blame him, he has gotten too far to get in any type of mess that would be easily picked up by the media. They feed on negagivity anyways.

LOL, Blagojevich is a true hustler. I’m sure he knew putting a brother in the position would create more buzz and outrage if protested. If he chose someone white and he was rejected it probably wouldn’t even be posted here. That’s politics for ya.

Stephanie Said on

Dee is correct, Blagojevich is a true hustler. However, Burris was foolosh
(and desperate enough) accept the position. I think that there is more to this that meets the eye. Burris was not “just” chosen…

He is not even in office and the introduction of this story has only begun! well let me get my reading glasses and blanket, and crawl into my big chair. This is going to be a Long saga. Chapter one, lets get started. Is history repeating itself?

I agree with Obama and the decision from the this waiverly Illinois problem “B” choice needs to relinquish — I hope Mr. Burns will refuse taking this seat and use better decision making. I also feel that a people election will determine who will fill the open congress seat. Illinois folks make your voice known and step up to the plate!!! Mr. President-elect please stay out of this affair with mr. B — it isn’t a good thing to get involved in Illinois choices for you have already to many things on your plate for our bad economy, healthcare, war, and what’s best for our COUNTRY!!!

Among men, blacks (28.5%) are about six times more likely than whites (4.4%)
to be admitted to prison during their life. Among women, 3.6% of blacks and
0.5% of whites will enter prison at least once. (U.S. Department of Justice)
Based on current rates of incarceration, an estimated 7.9% of black males
compared to 0.7% of white males will enter State of Federal prison by the
time they are age 20 and 21.4% of black males versus 1.4% of white males will
be incarcerated by age 30. (U.S. Department of Justice)
Some have noted that more black men are in prison in America than are in
college. (The Black and White of Justice, Freedom Magazine, Volume 128)

Come on now. When the white gives you omething, you should take it. In my country, we bow down to the white man when he gives us good things.

Theresa Said on

dave/UMLAW you are obviously biased against blacks to believe that those statistics are accurate. Institutional racism has been second nature in the US Dept of Justice since it’s inception. The only people that totally belive those statistics are racist like you UMLAW!
