Oprah’s Ex-Headmistress Sues Over Her Image

Oprah’s ex-headmistress sues over her image.

The former honcho at Oprah’s institute for girls in South Africa is suing the billionaire founder, saying that she became a victim in Oprah Winfrey’s attempt to cover up charges of sexual and physical abuse at the school. Nomvuto Mzamane, the ex-headmistress at Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls, said that Winfrey “launched what amounted to a defamatory campaign” last year. In demanding $250,000, she says that the talk-show host/philanthropist damaged her reputation by suggesting that she is “untrustworthy, failed the students of the academy, did not care about the students at the academy, knew of alleged physical and sexual abuse at the academy and participated in a cover-up of the alleged abuse.”

We all need to look at the big picture here: I s this lady sueing to cover up what oprah said about her or is she sueing to just be sueing cause she got fired? That is what kills me about people that work for people that has money. Would she be sueing id she had a job with a big company that got rid of her for the same reason or is it just cause it got to the public?

liz Said on

i agree with tammy.. if she still was working with oprah. she would of not been sueing..she just want money in her pocket..

liz Said on

How did you get all of this anger for this article. Im so sick if African-Americans and Africans against each other. First, to the African who stated that we will never be accepted in Africa. I dont know if you read any history books, but its not like were lining up to come to America, we were stolen from our land and forced to assimilate. Now we have Africans coming to the USA and assimilating by choice, and to be honest most forgetted 90% precent of the Africans Ive met have a serious bad attitude against african-americans they dont even know. They look down at me as if I am a dog just because I was born here. Second, to the African-Americans one is there truly such thing as that anymore. I dont know about yall but I dont agree with the one drop rule cause technically I have more Caucasian and Indian in my blood than African. The fact is, this is a situation that know of us was involved in. We were not there. We are just going along with the news. Africans, African-Americans just know we are Gods people and we should all JUST GET ALONG!!!

There are 3 sides to every story. Her side, Oprahs side and the truth. In this type of situation, I cant say shes wrong for hurting and I’m actually surprised she only went for a quarter mil..lol..her chances of winning are a bit higher considering the issue has nothing to do with money in the first place..

Rhonda Said on

Yes there are 3 sides to every story…….sad this has happenend especially since Oprah wants to help.

We do not know what has happened and we must be careful when dealing with people rasied in different cultures. Colors are the same but many things are different.
It all works out if we ALLL HUMBLE ourselves…………

Keisha, you are just another ignorant and idiot and don’t know what you’re talking about. Don’t ever shy away from where you came from. That’s your value right there. All white people always make reference and have great regard to where they originated from. Don’t ever think that dissing Africans will make you less of a black man or white. You never hear a white man calling a European…………you damn Irish or German, but some of you are in the habit of doing that to your own people. Go to Africa and see what your struggles mean to them and how much they want Blacks to move on here. You, idiot! Matter of fact these kinds of lawsuit or of any kind are typical of the West, not Africa.

Nicole — I agree with you!!

Don’t believe oprah would condone any sexual abuse or anything like that but doesn’t mean she didn’t find out and didn’t attempt to cover it up by getting rid of certain people to save her reputation before it went public. People will do that and I’m on no one side cause I am not a follower, I strive to analyze the whole situation. We have children right here we could have start strive to help out first. Like in my neighborhood and the ones I seen. These children have nothing to do with there time after school but get into some trouble. And sadly the parents and mostly single parents have to work to make ends meet leaving the children unattended with nothing to do. Oprah should strive to help with that.

MZ-JESZ Said on

Yes very true..humbleness would change everything. Realizing its not about Me, Me, Me and about the fact that the girls were violated and money needs to be invested into making sure it never happens again, and perhaps professional conselling..if anything, Oprah has more to lose than the headmistress..like who really knows her? her community..Okay..

but like i said..its the girls who need the support and attention, not the adults

Lauren Said on

Pureasia there is no “first”… if that is important for you to help out in the community, then do that. Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you. How people decide to spend their money (that they have earned) is their business. Each community has different needs and if you seeing that a need is not being supplied, gather some friends and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

Oprah was just out to try and prove that she is not too white or out of touch with her people. But we all know that she is. Africa in whole will always have sexual abuse. That is part of their culture,(i.e. Rawanda). Their are too many tribal wars and too much corrupt government and officials. So don’t play miss heirarchy all the way from the USA. Oprah should of done her homework before she tried to help her image. It’s evident that the lady and her village are so far removed from our everyday lives. She’ only suing for $250 thousand. Someone here would sue for 10 million.

MZ-JESZ Said on

David – it depends which “truth” you decide to believe..your truth may not be the truth..(if you get what I mean)

and to respond to the whole “oprah covered the scandal up,” i have reason to question the validity of that..oprah herself was sexually abused, she spoke/speaks candidly about it, and is still healing..why would she purposefully allow it to happen? once you’ve been thru HELL you wouldnt wish it on your worst enemies. think about that.

jj Said on

Oprah man just keep doing you, at least you care about the kids in Africa to build a million dallor school for them.

jill Said on

wow…. ignorant…. Brian, sexual abuse is in every culture, race and country!!! How dare you think that… So sad… take a class

pureasia Said on

As a matter of fact I did just started a non-profit organzation Lauren. Its for kids here in america starting with georgia for I am only one person looking for more support on this. I’m taking my money and raising money by working for it. It a program for kids that don’t have to wait for college to figure out what they want to do with there lives. They can start learning things(career wise) now. So when they do get to that level of college they will have much more understanding of what they want to do with theyselves. Instead drugs, pregnancy etc… and just thinking they might be the next basketball player or football. I wasn’t striving to be negative when I left my comment I was just stating the facts when someone wants to help they should start where they at now. Theres a lot of organzations out there helping the kids in africa and not really sending that money to them. How I know well my best friends are from africa and you don’t know the half of whats really going on over there.

pureasia Said on

I wasn’t finish sorry. But we do know whats going on over here
