Oprah’s Ex-Headmistress Sues Over Her Image

Oprah’s ex-headmistress sues over her image.

The former honcho at Oprah’s institute for girls in South Africa is suing the billionaire founder, saying that she became a victim in Oprah Winfrey’s attempt to cover up charges of sexual and physical abuse at the school. Nomvuto Mzamane, the ex-headmistress at Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls, said that Winfrey “launched what amounted to a defamatory campaign” last year. In demanding $250,000, she says that the talk-show host/philanthropist damaged her reputation by suggesting that she is “untrustworthy, failed the students of the academy, did not care about the students at the academy, knew of alleged physical and sexual abuse at the academy and participated in a cover-up of the alleged abuse.”

my whole comment is missing lol I was commenting back at lauren whom seem to like negative energy. I did actually started a non-profit organzation for kids here in america. And yes good for me for doing that. I’m tired of seeing not only in my community but the communities around united states with the high rise in gangs, teenage pregnancy, drugs. These kids have nothing to do with there time. So I created a program where they can go to different programs of their choice thats geared towards a career. If they like cooking than they’ll be cooking classes, something in medical than a class for that etc. Its very new and I’m still working my butt to make sure its a success so i can reach the whole united states on these programs. i wish people like oprah would help me. I am a child that was abuse, abandon etc… far more cry than what happened to oprah. And I would love to spend my days making sure that the parents and children can be helped out. There are to many single family homes going on here and they need some help. And please if you don’t have nothing nice to say about what I said lauren I appreciate if you don’t leave comment to me.

That Headmistress is so wrong especially when it could have been handled properly before it got to that. Oprah is a smart, savvy businesswoman and a philanthropist that will always rise to the occasion because it is so built into her fiber to fight an ugly situation in her very midst.

I’m not a diehard Oprah fan, but let’s give her the credit that is hers. Her success doesn’t give anyone the right to try to bite into her financial jugular vein.
So far, this looks like a case of greed in action.

What Lauren said was so ignorant. African americans are not lost souls nor are we not productive. Anyway back to this lawsuit she will not win. If the Texas Ranchers attempted to sue Oprah and lost this lady will lose too.

Some people in the world are just so money-hungry, i think that is why she is doing that. I’m African and not all Africans are like that. and for the issue about African-Americans and Africans not getting along, most of us are scared of African-Americans because of the way they treat each other, and also the way they treat us natives. Africans believe in UNITY regardless of race.(we have whites, Arabs, Bantu, mulatto, and blacks). I have to be honest, the only problem we have is the same around the world, our Arabs are still inconsiderate and are still discriminating and saying their religion is superior to all others.

Pureasia it was not my intention to make you upset. I grew up in South Africa and am very proud of where I come from. My whole point was that when it comes to children the is no first, no last, there is always going to be a child that needs to be helped, It is very commendable that you have taken on that challenge and decided to make a difference not only in your community, but in the world… Cause the childrens lives that you change now are going to change the world! Oprah has done amazing things here in the States for some time now and the school is one of her dreams… She gives ALOT no matter where it is.

Slow down Nicole, recognize the truth. Africans are a trip and so are the Americans that are decendents of Africans. By the way we are not African Americans, since most of us never and never will see Africa. African Americans are people who were born in African and now reside in America.
And Nicole, It was Africans that sold the other Africans to the Whites so please don’t say that we are not forever at each others throats, back biting and backstabbing. We need to stop falling for the medias okedoke and unite. Why do I keep on this same old satire–the same as Martin Luther King–we shall overcome. We need to overcome ourselves and stop fighting each other and UNITE.

You know so much “Y Lord”…. you must have been raised there and know what really happened there back in the day for you to be throwing out comments like that. I don’t see how you know what the truth is, all it seems you know is what you heard over the years….. (Diluted Truth) take a trip to Africa and then you can speak of “truths”

lynn Said on

I love the fact that Oprah did the right thing and is helping Africa. But did Oprah gte any blame in this whole thing?. I can see that to protect Oprah and future bussiness in Africa some will become scape Goats because Oprahs staff did not do their homework when before they open this school ..’PAY HER AND MOVE ON!!! Then the chick could move to america !!

comeon Said on

I don’t think Oprah would intentionally tarnish a person’s image. The truth is students were abused and people need to be held accountable. And the accoutability lies on Oprah as well as the ex-headmistress.

As far as Keisha and Lauren’s comments, where do I begin. Yes Keisha, Africans have issues(i.e. superiority or inferiority complex, seek validation from white america, equates success with material things and whether or not you attended an ivy league school) but you can not generalize all Africans.

African-Americans have issues also (too many broken families, ashamed of their African heritage and equates success with material things and whether or not you attended an ivy league school) but you can not generalize all African-Americans.

This is just a sample of problems we’re facing. Instead of trying to tear each other down, let’s get to work on rebuilding our communities here in America and Africa.

I’m an African American….Let us get on the same page. Africans and African Americans are one in the same. Don’t get it twisted by thinking one is better than another. We all have some healing to do. And the only place where the true soul will heal, is Africa. Thanks Oprah for creating a future for our Mother Land!
Lets us all look for the greater good in each of us!

Replying to Jill:

Take what class? Of course there is sexual abuse in every culture. But what I was attempting to say (and apparently went over your head) is that in many African cultures. Sexual abuse is actually tolerated and many times vindicated. If need be. Check up on Darfar, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone etc.

ro Said on

Let’s keep it real. Sometimes things happen to let people remember where they came from. Oprah became successful here in the U.S. Maybe she should have put a school over here to help poor girls over here of all races. She could have had some sort of program for the African girls to come over here and we could have helped with the program. We could have learned things from them as they could have learned from us.

MZ-JESZ Said on

Why are we gonna separate them from the mother land?

Nett Said on

Mzamane IS JUST SOME BROKE ASS AFRICAN WHO WANTS MONEY! WHY WOULD OPRAH FIRE HER? ASK YOURSELVES THAT… … … OPRAH MUST HAVE PUT HER IN CHARGE TO WATCH THOSE LITTLE GIRLS. AND IF SHE FELD TO DO THAT SHE SHOULD LOSE THE JOB OPRAH GAVE HER! SHE IS JUST UPSET BECAUSE NO SHE CAN’T FIND A ANOTHER JOB!

typee0 Said on

Okay My Peeps,

Please let us stop the namecalling and useless arguements. It is all about the girls.
what a person does with their money is their business. Remember the earth is the Lords and the fullness there of.

YLord, I have been to Africa, Senegal and I was born here in the US. 3yrs ago out of ignorance I would have never considered going there. Unfortunately, history began there for us. I am grateful because of our complaints are nothing and we truly are not grateful for what we have. Unfortunately we emulate the habits of those who consider themselves superior. That is where stupidity began.
I really wish people of color truly grasp unity.

Deidre Said on

It seems that everyone is forgetting the simplist of truths…there is good and bad in EVERYONE on every continent in every corner of the world. Do we have work to do in the African and African American communities, YES! But blogging about who is worst, is awful. For those afican-americans who believe that Africans are a “trip”, you may have valid reasons for feeling that way but amounts to nothing more than an opinion and I say the same to the Africans who believe everything they see and hear from the media about african americans. There is black on black crime here just as there is in Africa and no offense to MissAfricana who said that africans believe in unity but if that was all true, we would not have the current and historical cases of genocide that plagues mother AFRICA. Just stop and look at a person as a person, not as a race or religion, just as a human, person, you will see that they are just like you in many ways.
