Politics: Gustav Is Making Waves For Republicans; MoveOn.org Targets McCain VP Pick
September 1st, 2008Gustav is making waves for Republicans.

Sen. John McCain has called for the Republican Party to scale back its convention in Minneapolis , citing Hurricane Gustav’s potential to inflict “a great national disaster” on the people in the Gulf Coast region.
MoveOn.org targets McCain VP pick. The activist political group, which has an uncanny knack for getting on a Republican politician’s last nerve, has turned its sights on Sen. John McCain and his recently announced running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Saying that the American people “need to see” the facts about the new GOP veep, MoveOn.org has taken the Republican Party’s biggest charge lodged against Sen. Barack Obama and turned it against Palin: an apparent lack of experience. The woman McCain has chosen to be “one heartbeat away from the presidency” is “a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of [ Wasilla , Alaska ] a town of 9,000 people.” The liberal-leaning political group, established in the aftermath of President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, notes that Palin, who hopes to rein in some of the former Clinton-supporting women who aren’t too hip on Obama, is a staunch opponent of abortion, even in the case of rape and incest. It also points out that Palin was a strong supporter of Pat Buchanan, who has been publicly flogged on more than one occasion for racially insensitive comments. In other examples of extremism, MoveOn.org notes, Palin does not believe humans are responsible for climate change. “How closely did John McCain vet this choice?” the group asks on its Web site. “He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.” But what MoveOn.org doesn’t acknowledge is that the 44-year-old governor, the first woman ever to get a major-party nomination as vice president, helped create a new sub-cabinet group of advisers to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska . In late-July a state poll showed her with an 80-percent approval rating.

You know, I have to tell you, I really enjoy this blog and the insight from everyone who participates. I find it to be refreshing and very informative. I wish there were more blogs like it. Anyway, I felt it was about time I posted, I?ve spent most of my time here just lurking and reading, but today for some reason I just felt compelled to say this.
I just read that Palin’s 5th child is actually her 16 year old daughter’s child. Palin, the Republican’s VP pick, is covering for her unwed daughter’s pregnancy. Stay tuned to this scandal….
I think McCain coming to the state of MS to see the preparations for Hurricane Gustav is just an effort for publicity. The Republican party showed just how much they cared about the less fortunate when Hurricane Katrina hit. They treated those people in New Orleans and MS Gulf Coast with no love until the media got all over them. I feel the only reason that so much effort is being put on the efforts to evacuate NO and the Gulf Coast is for one its the 3rd year Anniversary of Katrina and alot of the rebuilding is still undone and because they are under the microscope as to how they are going to handle another major storm in terms of the safety of the less fortunate that don’t have the means to leave the diaster areas. I think its heartless for him to come here (MS) to do a speech rather than being here to volunteer to show support rather than try and gain publicity. McCain volunteer then you’ll gain my respect.
Mr McCains pick for V.P. shows that he is really out of touch with the main stream of America. Ms Palin has no clue about people of color or poor White Americans she was picked simply to have the white women that would have voted for Ms Clinton vote for her. How many people of color or poor white people live in Alaska? No big city problems. no homeless people..little or no one loseing their home..Little or no minorities to deal with .
I agree cookiemonster29. The slogan for the gulf coast should be “Remember Katrina”. Rebuilding the gulf coast was not, and still is not, a priority because the war comes first.
Even the weather is against the Republicans!!!
How much of a hypocrite can McCain be….look at his choice in VP.
The weather SHOULD be against them. McCain’s religious advisor James Dobson (my sister actually bought me one of his books, ugh) actually prayed for it ot rain on the Democratic National Convention and look what happened. The Republican National Convention got that result–TEN-FOLD. Apparently, God doesn’t like ugly, lol.
Wrong Lynn Gustav was perfect for the republican party It was used as a distraction little news was reported on the GOP convention
And T.Jones last week republican pundits was hoping for Gustav to delay their convention so the DNC could die out a little in our immediate minds plus bush was supposed to speak tonight and the republican want nothing more then to keep him away from mccain,(”you know can’t be there i’m doing president stuff”) not to mention the announcement of palin to add to the emotionally separation of Obama speech Thursday night . Those republican are some tricky Mfers
The Republican Party looks bad right about now. The two who are running for office sound like they do not (don’t) have any common sense. She let this man use her just for Sen. Clinton votes. What women in there right mind will vote for her with her track record.
Pastor Dobson prayed that it would rain to stop Senator Obama from his convention and God showed Dobson who is really the boss. Now it all back fired on Dobson who decided to change from voting democrat to republican. Like i said to Dobson God loves black people too so Dobson sit down and ask God “to create in you a clean heart and renew in you the right spirit.”

The R in Republican stands for rain.
