Politics: McCain’s Not Running On Family Values; Lawmaker: Bill Clinton’s Faltering Image Among Blacks Is His Own Fault

August 14th, 2008

Is the GOP concerned that its own candidate can’t stand up to the standard?

McCain
Pamela On Politics: Republicans appeared to have disserted the platform of family values for the 2008 presidential race, and no doubt it’s because their nominee’s checkered record might not stand up to the scrutiny of his challenger. Read more at Pamela On Politics.

Lawmaker: Bill Clinton’s faltering image in Black society is his own fault.

Rep. James Clyburn

Rep. Jim Clyburn, the third-highest-ranking member of Congress and a member of the Black Caucus, said that former President Bill Clinton ought to look in the mirror if he wants to see who’s responsible for his falling out with Black America. Speaking to ABC News last week, Clinton said that the South Carolina Democrat was once a friend of his, but that he “was not Hillary’s supporter. Never. Not ever. Not for a day.” Find out what else he said and how Clyburn responded at BET.com/News.

Clinton has done a tramendous job during his presidency for the U.S. As a a single father, African-American and taxpayer I find any negative treatment towards him totally racist. Clinton’s wife may or may not have diserved to be the nominee for the democratic party but I don’t disagree with Clinton’s support given to Hillary. Its a sad testament to a people when we become just as divisive as other races and ethnic groups to which we historically have challenged for being divisive themselves.

Personally, I would have voted for Hillary and did!

CLINTON DID DO A GOOD JOB WHEN HE SERVED AS PRESIDENT, AND I COMMEND HIM FOR THAT, HOWEVER PRIOR TO THE THE BLOWOUT BETWEEN OBAMA AND HILLARY, BILL CLINTON DID MAKE COMMENTS THAT DID NOT SIT WELL WITH BLACK PEOPLE. IT ISNT ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE BEING A TURN COAT ON THE CLINTON’S BECAUSE A BLACK MAN IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, IT WAS THE NEGATIVE ADS, COMMENTS AND UNTRUTHFULL COMMENTS THE CLINTONS WERE SPEWING AT OBAMA AND THE BLACK RACE IN PARTICULAR. THEY WANTED TO MAKE OBAMA RESPONSIBLE FOR REV. WRIGHT COMMENTS BUT YET HILLARY DID NOT WANT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR GERALDINE FERRAR’S COMMENT. THE COMMENT BILL MADE ABOUT S.CAROLINA AND OBAMA WINNING LIKE JESSE JACKSON LIKE THAT STATE DIDNT MEAN ANYTHING CAUSE WHITE VOTES THEY ONLY NEEDED IN THE END, INUENDOES LIKE THIS AND OTHERS IS WHAT BILL DID TO MAKE BLACK PEOPLE LOSE ADMIRATION FOR HIM… IF THEY HAD STAYED FAIR AND TRUE TO WHAT WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE THEN MANY BLACK FOLKS WOULD STILL PRAISE THEM, BUT I WOULD HAVE MAYBE VOTED FOR HILLARY IF OBAMA HAD LOST, BUT IT WOULD ONLY HAVE BEEN FOR THE SAKE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY…….. A WOMAN I FOUND TO BE STRONG AND INTELLIGENT THRU OUT THE YEARS, TURNED TO EVERY MEANS OF DECEPTION TO OUST OBAMA IMAGINABLE, TRUST IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR TODAY AND I HOPE WE HAVE FOUND IT IN OBAMA….

I will totally agree that Clinton was one of the best presidents of my time. But that dude showed his true colors during this primary and election. And, I agree with the Congressman, we didn’t just ditch Clinton (Bill or Hill) because it was a Black guy running, it was Bill’s (and Hill’s) MOUTH. It had nothing to do with supporting Obama because he is Black, that is naive to think. There are some who will vote for a candidate just based on that, but that is not the majority of Black people! Let’s face it, Jessie nor Al had a chance in Hell when they ran for president….black or not! And also, let’s face it, Black people are not the majority ANYWHERE in ANY STATE! So, white people also are voting for Obama! But the Clints definitely showed their true colors! That’s what turned Black people off. We are a proud people who come from the lineage of kings and queens, and you will NOT talk down to us, and our intelligence will NOT be taken for granted, not insulted. He was a good president, but don’t mistake our kindness for weakness. That’s the mistake they made. It was not racism, it was clintonism!!

And now Hillary Clinton’s name will be put in nomination at the convention?? I don’t trust her at ALL!! She is trying to pull a fast one, and it is going to, and is already backfiring on her. He is giving her a rope and she is going to officially hang herself. Not only has she lost this election, but I doubt she could EVER run again, and she knows it. It’s not about me being BLACK, because, I am both Black and a WOMEN, so I can identify with BOTH Dems. But enough is enough! She has beat this horse to death. She is BY HER OWN DOING, killing her own career, and it has nothing to do with Black people, or Obama, or Obama supporters, or any of that foolishness….it is this conniving, underhanded, dirty tactic stuff she and Bill pulled (and continue to pull…like this bullish) that has effectively turned off Black people—not to mention failing to concede….

After the demeaning antics pulled by Bill Clinton during the primaries, I do not trust him nor Billary anymore. They are some scandalous, fake people who are to be watched very, very closely. I am glad that Obama is a better person than they are, that is why the Lord has blessed him and placed him where he is right now because he is not scandalous. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Why doesn’t Bill Clinton go over the videos of the times he spoke and then he will see what HE did to turn Black people away from him. And the more he continues to make a rucus of the convention, the more Black people are going to turn from him and Hillary. It is getting to be a mess with the Clintons trying to put Hillary up for a vote. I hope she gets turned down real bad and maybe she and bill will turn tail and not be heard from for a few years. Hillary need to go back to the Senate and Bill should just do his fund raising for his building of his museum.

There are two times that a person’s true character is revealed. When they’re alone and when they’re under pressure or stress. Bill Clinton built his political career on being a progressive southerner from Arkansas. He had always championed causes that directly affected African-Americans and other minorities. His record had been good until his wife decided to run for POTUS against a relatively unknown Illinois Senator named Barack Obama.
This not only changed the way the game would be played, but it would change the relationship between the Clintons and many of their African-American supporters. Contrary to what Bill and Hillary would have us believe, this change was a direct result of the way the Clintons choose to run their campaign. Had they done it honorably, keeping race off the table Hillary may well have won the nomination. No one nationally really knew who Obama was. Blacks were far more familiar with the Clintons then this new upstart from Chicago.
All they had to do was ran a fair campaign and they were assured the nomination. Instead they made a series of mistakes, first, by feeling a sense of entitlement when it came to the nomination. Hillary was favored to win, but not inevitable. She would have to work for it. She wasn’t democratic royalty as both her and Bill assumed. Secondly, they underestimated the loyalty of blacks once they invoked the “race card”.
Even though there were some blacks that ignored the obvious racist undertones of the Clinton’s statements, many were upset and felt a sense of betrayal. The brutal reality of politics caught some of us by surprise. No one, especially blacks, ever thought that the Clintons would abandon one of their most loyal constituencies for a few votes. The fact that the Clintons saw blacks as “expendable” hurt us on a level we had not experienced from this couple. It was gamble that proved the undoing of their presidential hopes for 08.
Now, Bill is crying “foul” and saying that Obama played the race card on him. Ridiculous! Just as he underestimated our reaction to his statements during the primaries, he ’s underestimating our ability to remember what actually happened. His hope is that if he spins it a certain way, we’ll humbly accept what he says and quietly fall back in “our place”. Not gonna happen Bill and Hill.
As a matter of fact, I and many who I’m associated with will not vote for Hillary EVER. That’s the price for selling us down the river for a few votes. She could have been smart, realized that she might lose on this attempt and return in 2012, with her black support intact. Instead greed and power drove her election hopes over the cliff.
