Politics: Obama Distances Himself From Luda; Can Detroit Afford Not To Keep Kilpatrick?

July 31st, 2008

Obama distances himself from Luda.

Ludacris

Barack Obama has distanced himself from a new Ludacris track which supports the Presidential hopeful. In the song called Politics (Obama Is Here) the rapper is critical of Sens. Hilary Clinton and John McCain while calling current president George Bush ‘mentally handicapped.’ The chorus of the song goes “The world is ready for change cos Obama is here,” but even that wasn’t enough to win over the Democrat. In a statement released by his team said: “This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend (Jesse) Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear.”

Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick’s troubled son could affect a tight race for her seat. In a city like Detroit, which is facing record unemployment rates, rapid home foreclosures and decreased city services, the last thing Motor City voters should consider is sending a rookie to Washington to watch their backs. But as the race for Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick’s seat heats up, it’s becoming clear that her troubled son, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, has opened the door for the longtime congresswoman’s rivals to overtake her in the race to Capitol Hill.

Luda should know better than that! We want Obama elected and he is not making it any easier when he uses language that is offensive to mainstream. Obama is running for Pres not superintendent for a housing project!

Just stop and think about what you are doing before you do it.

thanks,
Rob

I think Luda call himself doing good and being supported of Obama,
but you can’t bring the rap diss dialog and be vulgar in the lyrics….
I do understand Luda was just trying to do his part in support for Obama
and nothing is ever wrong with that ,” well sort of” ;… …& #8230;&# 8230; 230;..

This has more to do with Ludacris than Senator Obama. If Ludacris truly valued their “supposed” friendship then he would’ve contacted the campaign and gave them a preview of how he planned to support. This was all about Ludacris starting a street murmur and “let the chips fly where they may”.

Our people perish for lack of knowledge. Why would anyone want to turn the Whitehouse black? If we wanted it a particular color than there’d be no reason for the Senator to run on his “all inclusive” platform. All Ludacris did was give ammunition to the racist and the Republicans. I guess McCain can spend his dollars elsewhere now with Ludacris doing the cheesy and detrimental work for him.

I need to send his butt out to the backyard for a switch!!!

Tamara said on July 31st, 2008

Luda was showing support for Obama, but he should know better than to degrade Hillary and others at the same time. Why would Obama back that? This doesn’t seem like Luda because he usually has common sense. Now he may put out a diss song against Obama lol

Mr. Lowe said on July 31st, 2008

Yeah, this article doesn’t include the actual lyrics that were offensive to the other presidential candidates… But having seen them myself, I commend Obama for stepping back from this song, not endorsing it, and striving to uphold his call for UNITY and CHANGE….not ‘beef’ and ’slander’. I’m proud of him for that.

DON’T BE GANGING UP ON LUDA WHEN THE TWO CLINTONS WERE GANGING UP ON OBAMA NO ONE HAD NOTHING TO SAY UNTIL IT HIT THE NEWS THE BILL AND HIS WIFE WAS BAD MOUTHING OBAMA, AND NOW THAT MCCAIN IS DOING IT WE DON’T SAY ANYTHING AND THAN WHEN LUDA IS DEFINDING OBAMA, AND TELLING THE TWO CLINTONS, AND MCCAIN OFF, OH NOW PEOPLE GOT SOMETHING TO SAY. MAN PLEASE GROW SOME.

Cheryl said on July 31st, 2008

Let me start by saying that Luda is a rapper and that’s what rappers do, they make a diss record! Maybe he didn’t use the right words in expressing himself, however it’s called a freedom of speech! I admit that some of the things that he said was a little bit harsh but white men are saying worst things about Obama then you could even imagine so what’s the difference here? The difference is it makes Obama looks extra bad! But regardless of what Luda said, some of us totally agree with him but don’t have the heart or the guts to say it! So talk bad about Luda all you want, he said what he said and I hope he doesn’t take it back, and for Obama, he still has my vote!

People have the right to say what they please but we’re not supposed to threaten, or slander each other but in the wrap business it’s been known to happen. I like Ludacris and I love the Obama Family. I’m sure Obama knows that Luda doesn’t intend to hurt him politically but of course he can’t embrace such a song, the President is supposed to stand for liberty and justice for all. I pray that Luda didn’t expect to get accolades from Barrack himself and just know that it’s OK to do you. God Bless them both in brother love, stay positive and focused on both their games.

BenBen said on July 31st, 2008

This is just stupid and utterly ridiculous that Ludacris would write such lyrics. He was suppose to be the positive rapper, the ex radio dj who made it big, has the ludacris foundation, gets to present big time artists at the grammys and represent a clean upstanding version of a hip hop rapper. But this crap right here is horrible and shameful for him to write such lyrics and at a time when we need for nothing but positive comments and media coverage for Senator Obama. If you ask me, it gives the impression that Ludacris is secretly a BLACK REPUBLICAN.

Hopefully there are many others that won’t hear it either. Surely he had good intentio ns… ;… but many good intentions only pave the road to diaster. LETS CLEAN IT UP PEOPLE!!!

Well I think luda is smart enough to know better. So here is another twist. Blacks folks have been turning each other for years. That is how we got to this country in part. So slip this thought under your hat. Maybe the rebulicans paid him to make the track knowing the affect it would have. Wouldn’t be the first to we have sold each other out for a dollar.

We must understand that not everyone will voice their opinion the same way. Mr Luda… Is just saying what many of us are saying on this site , As a young Black man who has been frustrated by this system Luda has the power to speak and say what others only wish they can do. Mr Obama has to object to Ludas thoughts because he is on a diffrent playing field. Even if he did agree with most of Ludas words

We need to be better then that right now…..we havent got there yet!!! This is the perfect example why “OPRAH” does not support our HIP HOP community! Luda…a rapper. You already have negative critics against you in mainstream America. Like the others have said Obama is running for president of the U.S. Instead of making a song, help him out with campaign money or SPEAKING positive about his in local communities and make sure people are registered to vote, and jusrt being you, you have a somewhat influence on how people may vote.

I don’t reallty care what Luda said in his song cuz that’s all it is…a song for pure entertainment.. it’s not like Obama wrote the lyrics, why did anyone expect to “back” Luda up? With all the confusion about controversy w/ Gov Patrick and Jesse Jackson who even cares about what a rapper has to say? I don’t wanna hear any songs on the radio regarding politics. Although I did hear a song with an ill ass beat by Movado singing about Borak “making a change” and I gotta admit I didn’t listen to the lyrics but the music was fire!!!

This is not a battle, its a war! You win it one battle at a time, no more no less. This is quite a bit more complicated than who can diss who the hardest. Anything too strong and you look callous and malicious to the American public. Obama must always distance himself from anything that could hamper his White House quest, PERIOD!!!! Remember in real life (just like in the entertainment business) people put on a good front regarding how “tough” they really are. This is nothing but tactics and all those utilized by Obama have to be carefully chosen 24-07-365.25 YA HEARD!!!!! He ain’t tryin’ to become the next chief of police, the mayor, the state treasurer (he’s already an Illinois senator) no, no, no, no!!! He is after the PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!! Something no man or woman of color has ever done before. Luda can piggy back on something alot less significant and still get his paper, pleeeeee eeeeeeee eeaaaaaa asssssss ssseee!! ! Don’t f*ck it up man…..

Nichelle said on July 31st, 2008

I haven’t heard the song so I can’t say much. I think that sometimes people in a position like Luda want to tell the world how they feel and they don’t care if it offends anyone. I think that he wants those he talks about to be offended by their own actions not so much his words. Like I said I haven’t heard it so I really can’t say, but the one thing we need to remember is that there is a strong need for change all across the board we need to do our best to see those changes not hinder them

J said on July 31st, 2008

Honestly, who cares? It was a song about Luda’s views on the political climate in this country, and Barack is supposed to distance himself from the song. Luda does not need to contact the campaign for clearance to produce a song, are you serious? I’m a huge Obama supporter, and am a fan of Luda, and the fact of the matter is that this is another one of the stories that is negative and shouldn’t have been published by BET. Why are we getting upset with stuff and posting inflaming remarks to others about the way things are going in this country. If you support Barack, vote for him and convince others to vote for him that may be leaning toward McCain, or don’t have any intentions on voting. Never before am I glad and proud that I’m 28 and not a part of that BET culture. This story is asanine and does not help push the message of the Obama campaign. When according to the LA Times, 72% of news stories on the Obama campaign are negative, BET sure the hell adds to it.

BenBen said on July 31st, 2008

Mark Gilbert..I’m not late on Luda, believe I know all about luda, hell his first single was about a females poo-nanny, you rememer the song “that fat rabbit”. However, you cannot deny that Ludacris was so call representing a positive rapper, he was getting all these major endorsements and even about to be inducted into the music hall of fame from what I heard this morning over the local radio station. You saw more of him giving speeches at the Grammys all decked out in a nice suit instead of baggy jeans with his undies showing, hell he even cut those braids off to give a cleaner look. So he did do a 360 to write and rap such crap when its not needed right about now. like my grandma says, Shame on You, Shame Shame Shame!!!

Jeff said on July 31st, 2008

I personal understand the message that Ludacris lyrically tried to employ through the minds and perspectives of the voting people. Like everyone acknowledge, a man has the divine and human right to speak his mind. Ludacris being a rapper chose to lyrically depict Obama as a presidential hero instead of a waste of time….George Bush on the other hand being belligerent and supercilious put America in a bind that Ludacris feels that only Obama can perspire us from. Obama has the right to his opinion, but in the eyes of that one rapper Ludacris feels that Obama is a hero.

FLEABATH said on July 31st, 2008

really now, I find it hard to believe that Luda would make this record and no one knew about it before it reached this point. I find it hard to think that Luda would find the lyrics acceptable… find the lyrics to be so great that Obama and his camp would use it as their victory theme song at thwe convention- is that what Luda thought??? Was he attempting to smoosh Obama to be the White House’s resident DJ or something??? What was Luda thinking. Show your support in a positive way by donating money to the campaign or by spending more time in his own foundations. Leave the politics to the politians and allow Obama to fight the good fight - without speed bumps.

First off most Ni–as in the rap game don’t think about the s–t they say in the first place. If they did then they wouldn’t say half the dumb s–t they say in the first place. Yeah this song is stupid and the GOP and the sly fox media are already on it because why? Luda been in the cross hairs for a minute, still respect to Luda for the attempt, no matter how wack it is cause it is, like Luda. But it won’t matter what Luda or Nas or anyone says if we don’t vote. We see this as something big but big starts at home. Ni–as killing each other over disrespect and they don’t have a clue what respect is. I would love to see Obama win if for anything so my Grandmother can see where this country once was and where its at. With Obama in the white house we have no more empty excuses about not having role models since these fa–et ass rappers are to cool to be what some young kids look up to while they promote that garbage. By the way, when did it become cool to look up to ni–as in jail or put the ghetto up in the sky as a place to get to to get respect and show you made it?

Well, what we have in both of these cases~ Obama/Luda and the Kilpatrcicks is a lack of consideration. Ludacris knows that Obama is making history right now, he knows he needs the support of people who love the Clintons as well as Bush supporters and independents who go either way, so why would he jeopordize those possible votes. If Luda had beef with Bil O Reilly off of Fox news the same news organization that attacks Obama, didint he think that they would be listening closely? Obama suppoeted Luda because Luda has given back to the community, etc., so Luda was inconsiderate, a low down dirty bastard or a freaking imbecile/idiot!! You decide!
]The Kilpatrick saga~ well, I am a Detroiter and there are no jobs here. Detroit is isolated and being further isolated because of the nonsense going on. None of the suburbs respect Detroit, most of the local city leaders dont respect Kwame. The city council and the mayor cannot agree on anything. He is now being investigated for shoving a Wayne County sheriff here. I live in Wayne County, Detroit, Michigan so I can honestly say there is no progress going on here. The governor does even know hat to do wiht the situation! So Carolyn, being his mother and a rep for our district should have had a heart to heart with her son a long time ago! In that conversation, she should have explained to him that you only get one family name and with a name should come honor, not reproach! He giving no regard to her, his wife, kids, us , the taxpayers, she should have told him to resign for her and his sake! She is his mother and if he is a sorry -low down person what can you say about mother? The apple doesnt fall far from the tree is a old line that she could have thought about also. The name Kilpatrick use to mean something before Kwame tarnished it.

Luda is very intelligent but on this particular move he didn’t think too much of the consequences… Stop playing in the hands of the haters….it’s time for Luda to grow up and spit some rhymes on something that will prove to be productive. Freedom of speech yeah …I see that but in my opinion it wasn’t a smart move….Obama faces enough negative vibes, news, comments, you name it as it is….sometimes intentions that were meant to be good are not always received as such!

Luda made the song to support Obama the way he knows how. Props to Luda for the support. But, just because Obama has gotten to this point, the game in politics is hasn’t changed. So whatever ‘we’ do or say is going to be taken misconstrued and used as ammunition against the campaign. Everyone is watching. I love Luda and Obama, but, because we’re under so much scrutiny we need to watch our backs - as usual.

THE SONG WAS DIVISIVE , THE LYRICAL CONTENT WEAK. LUDA HAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED ME. WHITE PEOPLE ALREADY ERRONEOUSLY THINK THAT WE WANT TO DO TO THEM WHAT THEY DID TO US. WHEN YOU SPIT LYRICS THAT SOUND LIKE HATRED ALL IT DOES IS REINFORCE THOSE THOUGHTS. AMERICA IS ABOUT COMING TOGETHER NOW, WE CAN ‘T TOLERATE IGNORANCE NO MATTER WHAT RACE. LUDA DIDN’T THINK ABOUT THE COMMON BLACK MAN WHO IN THIS ERA OF SYSTEMIC INEQUITIES HARDLY HAS A CHANCE. OBAMA MIGHT BE ABLE TO BALANCE THINGS BUT NOW HE IS THAT MUCH FURTHER FROM BRINGING MORE LOVE AND PEACE TO A SITUATION THAT HAS SO MANY COMPLEXITIES. I KNOW SOME OF US ARE ANGRY AND HURT THAT WE HAVE BEEN MARGINALIZED. OUR CULTURE SOMETIMES CARICATURIZED BUT NOW IS THE TIME TO REMEMBER THE WORDS OF AUDRE LORDE “WE CAN’T TEAR DOWN THE MASTERS HOUSE WITH THE MASTERS TOOLS” IN OTHERWISE WE CAN’T BE HATEFUL, IGNORANT, BIASED AGAINST OTHERS, WE OF ALL PEOPLE KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO BE CALLED NAMES, SPIT ON, KILLED, HUNG, LEFT OUT OF THE JOB HUNT, THE HOUSE BUY. IT IS TIME THAT WE SHOW PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN OUR EFFORTS TO PROMOTE EQUITY FOR ALL PEOPLE NOT JUST BLACK PEOPLE. AND THAT MEANS THINKING ABOUT THE WORDS WE SPEAK, WORDS OF HATRED ARE NOT OK TOWARDS ANYBODY! LUDA, I BEG YOU PLEASE, GET A COLLEGE DEGREE AND YOUR RAP LYRICS WILL EVOLVE EXPONENTIALLY.

Now we can’t be so hard on Luda. Kanye West brought it out !st when he made the track “George Bush Don’t Like Black People”.Nobody had anything to say then.Luda is glad a there is a change trying to be made.He shouldn’t hv said those things abt Sen. Clinton bcs i wld actually prefer her to be president due to she is the 1st lady president. But we shouldn’t down talk Luda for his well being.

What do you people want??? First it’s the rappers are to hardcore, they do not like the lyrics. Now it’s they are trying to stay away from this one or that one at least they are doing something postive and making the public look at politics.

Luda my boy but that wasn’t a smart or supportive move. They stay on Obama a** and publicize every small/big thing that has sumthin’ to do w/him so Luda should have thought that one out.

It is nice for Luda to want to show his support. Lets think for a minute. I wonder if he could have made the song without the profanity. It is nothing wrong with dissing the other side, but lets show them that we can be dignified. After all the brother is running for president. Lets show some class and respect for that office that we want him in.

DBW said on July 31st, 2008

I am glad that this has sparked so much passion out of people, but let’s remember a couple of things first…
1. ALL rappers do NOT write “diss” raps. There are too many clean rappers out there that have held up the banner for years, so you can generalize and put all rappers in one category.
2. Senator Obama has been running an extremely DIGNIFIED campaign and if we TRULY want to support him, then we will follow his lead… Luda should be able to write a rap to support Obama, but in a POSITIVE manner. If a singer/songwriter wants to write a song to support, do it in a POSITIVE manner. We have to show the rest of the world that Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama is all about POSITIVE change…and he can inspire a world to be POSITIVE with him… Follow Senator Obama’s lead….don’t get sucked into old school politics…it’s not do what they do time… it’s time for change.

I do hope that Luda will write another rap and show everyone that he can do more than disrespect and get his point across in a positive way…

It seems as though it is getting worse and worse with OTHER people making it hard for Obama. If he were to actually make a mistake himself he doesnt have room for error becasue everyone else has already kept him on the hot seat. He has been defending himself from what others have said and done since he has become a presidential hopeful. Give the man a chance to make his own mistakes, stop making them for him.

Marander said on July 31st, 2008

I agree with both sides of all arguements, except the ignorant ones. I have not heard nor read the lyrics however, as black people we know that we are all grouped together as one. What one does or says then the world thinks we all agree cause were black. Now with Obama and Luda have a friendship it appears, even though it is not true, that Obama supports the song and its lyrical content. Remember Obama and the Pastor from DC. GUILT BY ASSOCIATION PEOPLE….!!!!! Think before we speak.

For all the times we got overlooked in very serious racist attacks against us! For all the Sean Bells that got treated as nothing!!! Thank you Luda!!! As a rapper as a U.S citizen You used your freedom of speech just as freely as these white folks have every since Obama began the race!! We are not inferior!!! Go Luda!!! Obama 08′ I know he’s secretly smiling at this one too!!!

I agree with Luda, for once a rapper has stood up for something other then cars, money, and ho’s. Good for you Luda you remind me of rappers from other countries who actually rap about politics and what’s happening in their world. I’m proud of you Luda for standing up for what you believe in. PLEASE KEEP IT COMING, shake up these people in America with the truth. I think Obama had to denounce Luda, just like he has to denounce everything else, because he has to win everyone’s vote. So he has to cater to everyone in America. Did anyone peep how Obama is treating black people like he don’t want to shake their hands or talk directly about black issues?

People turn to music and say what ever that’s on their mind. That is what it is…

I am somewhat surprised by what many are saying here. Let me get this right, basically no one can say anything negative about McCain or Clinton, even if it is true, because it will hurt Obama??? Listen and know this if you know nothing else about this election: Anyone that gives the excuse of what SOMEONE else has said as a reason not to vote for Obama; was not voting for him anyway!! Wake up people. Many people will NEVER admit publicly they won’t vote for a Black man, or half Black man in this case, but when it comes time to be all alone in that poll booth, their sense of supremacy will spring up. Ludacris can say whatever he wants, about whoever he wants, in the manner he wants. PERIOD!!! Ludacris is not on Obama’s payroll or the Republicans. So, what he says is his and his alone. Why does he even dignify this idiocy with a reply?? I don’t hear calls for Clinton and McCain to denounce/distance themselves from the myriad of ignorant comments made by white folks, famous and the not so famous. It is the same old story: when a Black person says something distasteful to white America, they go find a negro to denounce him. Wake up!!!!

It would be offensive to those he was talking about; however, as far as rap songs go…this is one of the better ones. Luda is going to do what Luda do—he’s not Will Smith.

It will be interesting to see how the media chops this up though. Of all the absolutely vile rap songs out there calling brothers the “N” word the sisters the “H” word etc. Let’s see how this one is rated…

First, i’d like to say to Luda. Keep doing you. All these negative opinions of the people on here are wack. This song has nothing to do with helping or hurting Obama’s chances of getting into office. I’m still voting for him. Secondly, Luda isn’t the Devil, but Politics are. McCain, Clinton , and the media will do anything to cast a negative light on Obama’s campaine. Even if it means taking a song written by someone not in politics to discredit him.
Obama wouldn’t back it up, even if he agreed because of what he’s trying to do. And that’s become the 1st Black President. So, if you thinks that this song hurts Obama, then you must be Republican.

I’m responding to a couple of comments on here. One of them is from someone who mentioned how “..white people don’t distance themselves from other white people…” I, ofcourse, don’t know all ‘white people’ but from what I’ve seen/heard in “real life” and in the media… some whites WILL distance themselves from other whites for various reasons. Race is deffinitely a reason. Let’s be honest, white people can not get away with racism as well as other ethnicities. They’re were plenty of people “distancing” themselves from Michael Richards after he made his insane comment, as well as using the “N” word during his standup. etc.
The other comment was from someone who said “whites can say whatever they want and blacks can’t…” or something to that effect. That simply isn’t true. Not only do they have to distance themselves from other racist whites (I’m basing this opinion from my Own experiences) but they have to be CAREFUL with what they say. What white person can get away with saying whatever they want?? What crack head believes this sh!#?? I’m a multi-ethnic woman (filipino, native american, european) and even I have to be careful. Again this is based on my Personal experiences, but unless I’m black, I can’t ever say whatever pops into my mind. I have to be VERY careful, if I don’t want to get fired, or get my @$$ beat. I have these coworkers and they happen to be black, and they get away with saying the most hateful stuff.. “I hate white people” “Which *side* are you on… white or black??” and it’s uncomfortable to say the least. And it’s not like I go around saying prejudiced things…. I don’t agree or disagree with them because I wouldn’t get away with it. I’d get fired. They, on other other hand, say the same sh!# every day and the boss doesn’t say Boo… I, ofcourse, have to be neutral. I don’t expect Anyone to understand what I’ve experienced, but I experienced these things none the less.

We are trying to get whats ours thru a Godsend by the name of Obama. Its been a long time coming for us so lets not perpetuate the stereotypes of the ignorants and racists. Lets rise above waddling in the garbage with “them” and lets focus on the big picture.

I am even more proud of Barack for taking the high road and not to get caught up in the hype of things because this affects him even greater in representing “us” in the white house, a chance for ignorant white america to see that we can do more than rap, play sports, and steal… Do your thing, Bruh!!

Rule #1 Shut the F-up. Keep your comments to yourself. Keep your freestyles to yourself. In other words shut the F-up. Not hard to do is it?

Rule #2 Shut the F-up and vote. Get every dam body in your family and on your block out to the polls. Take the day off, drive people to the polls and freestyle that way.

Luda just didn’t really think, bottom line. He should pay attention to the fact that Obama is going out his way to stay away from a smear campaign. No one is going to get him out there like that. I don’t think Luda actually believed this would get Obama’s support as much as he was just practicing his right to free speech. He has a right to his own opinion however he expresses it.I just think he should have left Obama out of it. Not to be demeaning to you Jay, but your comments suggest that you aren’t so bright. I’m not saying that you are unintelligent, but you just don’t come off as being that well rounded. I’m going to vote based on my feelings towards my chosen candidate based on my views and values, but that has nothing to do with the fact that people can be swayed and brainwashed to believe things the way someone else wants them to be. The last four years proved that. I believe that GWB’s first term was a result of some funny business. But his second term was all about dumbA$$ Americans of all races, creeds, backrounds, and cultures allowing themselves to be turned against John Kerry bucause too much about him wasn’t ‘Politically Correct’ enough for them. Very small simple issues such as him (Kerry) saying he supports a woman deciding for themselves whats right for their body. Because he didn’t say that same sex marriage was a disgrace and an abomination. He said he didn’t support abortions or same sex marriages but at the same time people have to be allowed to make their own decisions about their lives. Then Bush came along with his gay hatred and appealing to the holy rollers and poisoned the minds of Americans. Never mind all the positive things that could have resulted from Kerry being elected, he’s wrong for America because he believes in the one principle this country supposedly thrives on. FREEDOM OVER YOUR OWN LIFE!! So the wrong words can be twisted and turned to benifit the wrong people when someone isn’t careful. That’s just how it is. Luda should have thought this over a bit. But I will always be a Ludacris fan. AND I MOST DEFINITELY Support Barack Obama.

I understand that Luda has a message…

But a point can be made without being offensiv e…

We all have to understand that delivery is key. Now we all got offended when Bill Cosby commenced to telling us about ourselves right? Because of the way he said what he said. This is the same thing but the other way around. Black people are not the only race on the planet. You can’t talk that blackspeak to people who are not. You have to communicate in a way that THEY will understand. In my opinion, all controversy aside… I like the song. It is raw, that’s for sure, but it has no place in the political arena. He made some points in the song about voting, something that many black people do not do. He’s got a head on his shoulders and I hate to say it but beyond the young set hip hop the rap part of it does not translate very well. This is the biggest problem. We have to understand we are different because we make ourselves different and other races think of us as different. They said that stuff about rock/acid rock but those are white boys, they seem to get away with that satanic crap that they put out but the thing is you don’t hear all of that negatism about that.

Hip hop is loud in ya face music, everyone does not receive that, they can boldly straightup cold turn the music off when that hard sinister beat creeps in and you want the message heard but it gets lost in the presentation. Telling other people(races) to grow up isn’t the message. The growth must come from the messenger.

first.. the previous commentator obviously didnt pay attention to anything he said.. this song did not reflect anything ghetto in the slightest the song was actually pretty good the only thing that i dont think he shouldve done was call Hilary a B…. although alot a people might agree.. but most of what he said was on point.. I pretty sure if you take a poll of the oldest american to the midage americans George Bush will end up in the bottom two for best presidents…But as much as i love an Obama supporter.. mainstream rappers should stay away from endorsements because unfortunately allthough this shouldnt be much of a surprise but rappers endorsements of Obama makes white people very nervous for some reason and in the grand scheme of things those of them that are wavering will give that vote to mccain just because they know he’s white.. where as situations like this leave them guessing as to “how ‘Black’ is Obama?, “How down of a brother is “, when these questions are far from the issue at hand.

It’s nothing wrong with freedom of speech but in this day and age we have to be mindful of how our freedom of speech effects others, especially our very own candidate who is trying to stay free from negativity while running for president. It’s like this… white folks are going to think what they want to think about us regardless of LUDA’s song. Remember white people did not like us because of the color of our skin!… so what we say and what we do will not change the way many white people think about us anyway. We have to change because we can be and want to do better not because we are trying to change how others feel or think about us. Obama is going to have it rough from the white folks once he is elected pres…lets not make it even harder for me. Please people and even more importantly.. Remember to vote.

the only thing i have to say is “I dont care what he says about Obama. He is a black man running for president. And frankly I believe everyone should look at how all this happened. In the first place how did a ex-republician become candid for running as a democratic candidate. I thought black people was beyond wanting a black president and just want a change for the better. I dont like McCain. But i do trust Hillary to a certain point. I’m a black struggling single mom. And something just aint right. Why all of a sudden we finally get what us black people wanted and thats a black man running for president. Again us blacks let the white man give us his choice. And thats how i feel, And the only reason white people is for change its because that are tired of war producing republician. the white people want their kids to come home too. Thats the only reason why we getting what we want because the white man is tired of the white man but at the same time half white Halt black that may have been the only reason why he got in there. I’m sorry we always given in and accepting what the white man allows us to do . i’m sorry i dont trust it. i wanted it but not so much now. I hope we get what we wanted.

Talk about sabotage…Luda its called commons sense…why on earth couldn’t he make a postive song something that would represent Obama in the right way…maybe he doesn’t watch FOX news among other stations and see how every little thing Obama does or that is associated with him in any little way is used against him to show “America” why Obama shouldn’t be president. I mean every news outlet is taking this song and running with it. If Luda was really an Obama supporter he would have thought twice before putting that song out.

Jaquetta Velvet said on August 1st, 2008

Luda has the right to say what he wants. He is just supporting what Obama is doing. Not trying to hurt his campaign. If you really take notice he is getting the support of he Hip hop community. They have money poor peolple don’t. I think it is a great accomplishment for him to write a whole song about it. When Emenim did it when Bush was runnning for office its the same outcry for the Lower class people. Even the middle class are feeling the effects. That also means Upper class is feeling it to. We all support what Obama stands for and his beliefs. That the bottom line to his message.

We all have a time in our lives where we have what you call “Quality Moments” . Ludacris messed his up. Sure he’ll keep making music and certain folks will lkeep buying it but he had the opportunity to do something positive in history and his immaturity lead the way.

pennie said on August 1st, 2008

Luda Why!!!!!!! would you say such mess. You know we need Obama so why make it harder then it already is. Stop acting like white folks saying stupid things, you know we cant get away with anything, and we should always want to look better then them. Some one said it right ,he Luda should have checked with Obama camp to see if those words was ok to say, ask do you think this is going to help him or hert him. Lets get POSITIVE my people.

Luda come on dogg!! I know u are smarter then that ,this is the real world u messing with not some diss track.I think Obama can handle him self dont make it look like a stage full of only blacks, that can become a problem.

Jaynee said on August 1st, 2008

I really don’t know what Ludacris’ intent was but I do know that he did not help Obama at all. I hear that Obama gave Ludacris a complimlent by
calling him a great talentso maybe he thought he was helping him by dissing his detractors. So please, my people stop and think before you act. This incident is only assuring the other side that they should do all they can to keep us in our, so called, place. What we all need to do is talk to our non-voting sisters and brothers and get them to register and vote for Obama. This is the only thing that can truly get him elected, You can bet that the other side is working on getting out the vote for their candidate and watching everything we do and say to find a way to pin it on Obama and squash him.

Angela said on August 1st, 2008

McCain is practically hanging himself. Republicans don’t like him they just don’t want Obama. And the only thing that is hurting Obama is dumb ass black folks trying to get in his spot light. Barak is NOT for any race of people he just want to try a new thing. I understand Black people have something to say but MUST learn to express yourself more intelligently if you expect to be taken seriously. Not all black are from the streets and those who escape the streets escape through knowledge; without selling their soul or the soul of their brothers and sisters.

Ludacris churns out the garbage.
I don’t care for Obama either.
I lose more respect for Obama each time that he disassociates with his friends when they get contoversial.
I’m not a fan of the radical Rev. Jeremiah Wright either, but he shouldn’t have been thrown under the bus after the years that he and the Obama family have been acquanted.
Now it seems that it’s politically expedient for Obama to distance himself from Ludacris.
There is an obvious distance between politic ambitions and personal loyalty.

Some of these posters are correct in their assessment. To white people this track Luda made is just another reason to not vote for Obama. They will vote for McCain even if they don’t agree with him. Just don’t let a black in office at all costs. I disagree with Renee the single mom who wanted Hillary for president. Apparently America is NOT ready for a woman president she had her supporters but it wasn’t enough. Everyone is tired of how the country has been run that’s a given. Obama is the first person speaking differently. But he has a narrow line to walk. I am proud of him because of who he is and I don’t care that he is biracial. When you look at him you see that he is black. It is inspiring considering the state of black men today. You think white people just let him in? What about some of them believing in what he says? There is no way that there are enough blacks in this country to get an elected official in office just based on one race. He will have to appeal to others also. And those stupid people trying to hold him back with lame excuses that he is muslim… why did that become an issue? 911. Jeremiah Wright a brilliant man who tells it like it is but they don’t like his delivery either. This is another excuse to not vote for him. Who’s the other ex terrorist dude? He was doing his dirt when Obama was kid for goodness sake! Now Luda, and Renee says she can’t support him because white people said it is alright now. How long do we have to wait? You take the chance when it is presented. If it is a chance for you to turn it into some good then that IS good. Ain’t no use pining over Hillary she’s gone. I was going to go for her but once Obama threw his hat in I was there.

I find it unacceptable for a whole race of people to have to walk on egg shells simply because Sen Obama is running for president….I hope that Senator Obama does win and become president. Yes, I will vote for him. But guess what.???….he will never be able to bring about the lasting change in the way that has been broadcasted unless he stops running from race and as another person on this forum stated “tucking his tale” every time someone not of color shows disapproval toward someone of color… ……African Americans have been a discriminated and often oppressed people in this country for a very long time….in a way that no other ethnic group has…. (although a close runner up however wd be Jews) Thus, when someone such as a Barak Obama, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey are able to push through the gates, then guess what??? A lot of us express pride and nationalism…. I see nothing wrong with that…. You have to have heroes and hope. Most African Americans are still not apart of the middle class and upper class.. The masses need those heroes and a little bit of nationalism (w/o hatred, of course). Now, perhaps some will say the timing is off for Luda to make his comments and that he did not help Obama….Who is to say that Luda’s comments will not inspire or reach out to a whole new group of youthful people of color that could not be reached by others…. A lot of people still dont vote and have never voted. This is despite a march in Selma and voting rights act. I have a cousin who is well over 30 who has never voted in her life, despite others encouraging her. I can see a difft outreach mechanism such as used by Luda working for her in ways that the other efforts have not….. just m 1/2 cents.

I’m having a problem with pastors, rappers, etc. being belittle because of their opinions. Just because we have Obama running for president, why all of sudden black people must watch what we say. White people say what they want to say about racism and they say it negatively; all they have to say is they are sorry and all is forgiven. I’ve always had a problem with white folks saying they are sorry after making statements about racism; why make the statements in the first place?

A good leader must be like God; no respecter of person.

Ladyree said on August 3rd, 2008

Rapper don’t know the impact they can have on such. I really feel that Luda was trying to help and went about it.. maybe a little too expressive. Obama hadn’t always said the right things too, when it come to the black community.
It’s time to stop being shady and start raising some awareness!

Frances Brown….speak the truth and shame the devil. We are such docile people we still don’t believe we are free. When Kanye West said what he said after the Katrina “Bush don’t care about black people” black folk were afraid like we were going to be rounded up and shipped somewhere. In “Beef” rappers are always calling one another out and no one has ever said one word, because it makes money, so why now? And do we really think what anyone says has any power to stop Obama from getting elected, If it is Gods will no man can stop it. The bible was not lying with the written words “My people perish for lack of knowledge”. Luda must have been telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth or they wouldn’t have cared, go Luda, because speaking out brutha could cost you and no one will be there for you, same way no one was there for Arsenio Hall, not even the one he spoke up for. Will we ever wake up?

I, personally like Ludacris, however; I, too, must ask, “What were you thinking”? We are trying to put Senator Obama in the White House, and Black people cannot do it alone.Hiliary still has her supporters, I, for one, would prefer that her supporters vote for Obama rather than McCain, and some people are not going to consider this ,”a song by Ludacris, supporting Obama. It might be considered, “a song by Ludacris disrespecting Hiliary and McCain while supporting Obama.” Ludacris is a very intelligent man, but I don’t understand, “What were you thinking”? We have to stay focused if we want this to become a reality. Blessings.

Ludacris seems to have lost his marbles but then most of these rap artistes are so dumb and illiterate that they are only capable of communicating at a certain level and to a certain class and that’s the difference education makes.

Regardless of what Luda had said in his song…. It should’nt have anything to do with Obama, He (OBAMA) didnt say it nor did he make Luda say it. So if they was to knock Obama for what someone else had said thats because they wanted to do that anyway. Now take a break an think about that… Its like he say she say on the street u cant always put at fought the person that they are pointing the fingure at, RIGHT!!! Cuz most of the time it not he/she fought or it all could be madeup

MizzKim said on August 8th, 2008

I think the song it was hillarious and I love Luda for saying all the things that everyone has been thinking. How many times have Jay Leno and all the other nightshow host made fun of bush and McCaine, and they are on T.V., it’s crazy to talk down about what luda said, he just spoke his feelings and the feelings of alot of other people. The only way I think this could hurt Obama is if it starts to intimidate some white people and they start thinking that putting a black man in power will give black people too much power, and their are people already thinking that. Do ya thang boo, I love you and GO Obama!!

Luda Lova said on August 8th, 2008

MikeyD…….You have no idea what you are talking about. Luda is extremely intelligent and nowhere near being dumb or illiterate. And there are quite a few very educatedrappers out there do your research before you open your mouth sir. If your going to talk down about Luda talk bad about Jay Leno and all those talk show host that make fun of and talk bad about political figures all the time. One more thing, it doesn’t take a formal education to be smart, especially with the World Wide Net just a click away, it takes initiative.

I can understand Barack thinking better of supporting Luda’s ideal lyrics and this is a serious time to tighten up, but we weren’t really expecting Ludacris to come out with a marry ole’ political jingle now were we? This is Ludacris’s
style and while we can’t applaud his content in support of Barack Obama, we should still show love for his effort.
