Politics: Obama Distances Himself From Luda; Can Detroit Afford Not To Keep Kilpatrick?
July 31st, 2008Obama distances himself from Luda.

Barack Obama has distanced himself from a new Ludacris track which supports the Presidential hopeful. In the song called Politics (Obama Is Here) the rapper is critical of Sens. Hilary Clinton and John McCain while calling current president George Bush ‘mentally handicapped.’ The chorus of the song goes “The world is ready for change cos Obama is here,” but even that wasn’t enough to win over the Democrat. In a statement released by his team said: “This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend (Jesse) Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear.”
Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick’s troubled son could affect a tight race for her seat. In a city like Detroit, which is facing record unemployment rates, rapid home foreclosures and decreased city services, the last thing Motor City voters should consider is sending a rookie to Washington to watch their backs. But as the race for Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick’s seat heats up, it’s becoming clear that her troubled son, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, has opened the door for the longtime congresswoman’s rivals to overtake her in the race to Capitol Hill.

I am glad that this has sparked so much passion out of people, but let’s remember a couple of things first…
1. ALL rappers do NOT write “diss” raps. There are too many clean rappers out there that have held up the banner for years, so you can generalize and put all rappers in one category.
2. Senator Obama has been running an extremely DIGNIFIED campaign and if we TRULY want to support him, then we will follow his lead… Luda should be able to write a rap to support Obama, but in a POSITIVE manner. If a singer/songwriter wants to write a song to support, do it in a POSITIVE manner. We have to show the rest of the world that Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama is all about POSITIVE change…and he can inspire a world to be POSITIVE with him… Follow Senator Obama’s lead….don’t get sucked into old school politics…it’s not do what they do time… it’s time for change.
I do hope that Luda will write another rap and show everyone that he can do more than disrespect and get his point across in a positive way…
It seems as though it is getting worse and worse with OTHER people making it hard for Obama. If he were to actually make a mistake himself he doesnt have room for error becasue everyone else has already kept him on the hot seat. He has been defending himself from what others have said and done since he has become a presidential hopeful. Give the man a chance to make his own mistakes, stop making them for him.
I agree with both sides of all arguements, except the ignorant ones. I have not heard nor read the lyrics however, as black people we know that we are all grouped together as one. What one does or says then the world thinks we all agree cause were black. Now with Obama and Luda have a friendship it appears, even though it is not true, that Obama supports the song and its lyrical content. Remember Obama and the Pastor from DC. GUILT BY ASSOCIATION PEOPLE….!!!!! Think before we speak.
Who cares what all u hypocrits think!!!! Go Luda 4 saying pretty much what all of us are saying behind closed doors! As much as Obama and Michelle got slandered for every little thing that they do! For all the times we got overlooked in very serious racist attacks against us! For all the Sean Bells that got treated as nothing!!! Thank you Luda!!! As a rapper as a U.S citizen You used your freedom of speech just as freely as these white folks have every since Obama began the race!! We are not inferior!!! Go Luda!!! Obama 08′ I know he’s secretly smiling at this one too!!!
I agree with Luda, for once a rapper has stood up for something other then cars, money, and ho’s. Good for you Luda you remind me of rappers from other countries who actually rap about politics and what’s happening in their world. I’m proud of you Luda for standing up for what you believe in. PLEASE KEEP IT COMING, shake up these people in America with the truth. I think Obama had to denounce Luda, just like he has to denounce everything else, because he has to win everyone’s vote. So he has to cater to everyone in America. Did anyone peep how Obama is treating black people like he don’t want to shake their hands or talk directly about black issues?
LUDA WHAT HAPPEN? I THINK LUDA GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE MOMENT AND JUST LOST IT, HE DIDN’T REALIZE MOSTLY EVERYTHING HE WAS SAYING. OH MY GOD, LUDA U MUST HAVE BEEN HI, I MEAN REALLY HIGH.
I like the song because rap music do what it does. But personally, I think Luda should have drop the song when Obama becomes President first. I say let the man get in the White House before we bring out all the hard core real deal songs. It’s gonna be plenty more because this is American and this is how it’s done. People turn to music and say what ever that’s on their mind. That is what it is…
Y’all know y’all like that song so stop hatin. But on the real, we need to get Obama in office first. We go hard now and laugh later….
Go vote!!
OK ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IM SICK AND TIRED OF EVERYTIME SOMEONE EXPRESS THEIR FEELINGS ABOUT THESE POLITICAL JERKS OBAMA HAS TO “DISTANCE” HIMSELF FROM THEM. THEY CAN EXPRESS THEMSELVES HOW THEY WANT I KNOW HE’S NOT DISTANCING HISSELF FROM THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS!? POLITICS ARE SO DIRTY THEY MAKE PEOPLE NOT WANT TO VOTE AND OBAMA KEEPS TRYING TO PLEASE THESE POLITICAL JERKS HE’S GONNA LOSE A LOT OF SUPPORTERS!
well said JaiMeke.. (up until the Oprah part-she be trippin) but Luda shldv waited to put it all out there like that.. why couldn’t he wait til late Nov or Dec? he could not have thought that what he was saying would help Obama’s political stance in anyway
I am somewhat surprised by what many are saying here. Let me get this right, basically no one can say anything negative about McCain or Clinton, even if it is true, because it will hurt Obama??? Listen and know this if you know nothing else about this election: Anyone that gives the excuse of what SOMEONE else has said as a reason not to vote for Obama; was not voting for him anyway!! Wake up people. Many people will NEVER admit publicly they won’t vote for a Black man, or half Black man in this case, but when it comes time to be all alone in that poll booth, their sense of supremacy will spring up. Ludacris can say whatever he wants, about whoever he wants, in the manner he wants. PERIOD!!! Ludacris is not on Obama’s payroll or the Republicans. So, what he says is his and his alone. Why does he even dignify this idiocy with a reply?? I don’t hear calls for Clinton and McCain to denounce/distance themselves from the myriad of ignorant comments made by white folks, famous and the not so famous. It is the same old story: when a Black person says something distasteful to white America, they go find a negro to denounce him. Wake up!!!!
NADIA:
YOU JUST IGNORANT!!!
I AGREE TOTALLY WITH J-WILL… IT’S LUDAS OPINION, BLACK PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VOCAL ABOUT THE DISPARITY AND DIVERSIVE UNEQUAL TREATMENT WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM WHITE SOCIETY.. SO NOW ONE HAS TO BE SILENT UNTIL THE RULING OR ELECTION IS OVER TO SEE IF OBAMA WINS? WHAT’S GONA HAPPEN IS GONA HAPPEN, IF PEOPLE WANTS TO ELECT HIM THEY WILL, IF THE ELECTION IS THRWARTED GOD FORBID LIKE ANOTHER FLORIDA THEN WE KNOW NOTHING NEGATIVE SAID AGAINST THE CLINTONS, BUSH MATTERED ANYWAY… WIN OR LOSE THIS WILL ALWAYS BE A HISTORIC MOMENT IN OUR HISTORY BOOKS… FREEDOM OF SPEECH THATS ALL IT IS PEOPLE FREEDOM OF SPEECH… OBAMA HOPEFULLY IN 2008….
I THINK THAT WHAT LUDA DID WAS DPLORABLE ., DISRESPECTFUL, AND DOWN RIGHT PRIMTIVE. HE HAD NO RIGHT TO COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH . I THINK THAT HE OWNS THEM ALL IN A HUGE APOLOGY FOR IT ALL.
PEOPLE WAKE UP.OBAMA IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT .HE HAS TO DISTANCE HIMSELF.FROM LUDA. THIS IS POLITIC.
Just like Bernie Mac, Luda could have done better than that. This is serious stuff not for play play!!!
As an emcee I am sick of these rappers giving us all a bad name. Nowadays I’m ashamed to even admit to a lot of people that I rap! We can be more dignified and creative about this!
Ok lets be serious luda isnt the only person to take shots at them he was just sayin what everyone is scared to say and how in the hell did children come to play kids hear and see way worst stuff than that everyday if obama want to be mad at anybody it should be the media cus they take shots at him whenever they can.All im sayin is that obama has to understand all the people that are go0ing to vote for hime are not white and yes they live in the ghetto. If is race is so secure y worrie about a what a man name chistopher bridges says?
personally i respect Luda 4 the song. thats what music is 4. its an art that u can express urself and if he can’t express himself the whats the point in havin such an art as music. don’t get me wrong, i can understand the negative in the song but i also respect Luda 4 speaking his mind and giving us his opinion….
I have to say… I can be pretty conservative on many things…However, even though I can see why Obama and his campaign must distance themselves from this piece from Luda, It is a good rap song. It would be offensive to those he was talking about; however, as far as rap songs go…this is one of the better ones. Luda is going to do what Luda do—he’s not Will Smith.
It will be interesting to see how the media chops this up though. Of all the absolutely vile rap songs out there calling brothers the “N” word the sisters the “H” word etc. Let’s see how this one is rated…
senator obama offers a brighter hope for a better tomorrow. and i think we are a generation that wants change for america so we can lead the world with the example counter to what “john mccain more of the same” can offer. obama is runnung for president of america not just black america, we have to hold the commentary so that he will have a shot at attaining the presidency so in politics you have to distance yourself from that which make one look petty
i still support obama and luda
