All of a sudden they want “congressional oversight” ? That’s just BS since they can’t even regulate themselves. They want to punish the folks who received those bonuses (rightfully so) while they (congress) still getting COLA raises (wrong as he!!) . With passage of the Ethics Reform Act of 1989, these so called lawmakers authorized themselves the automatic – no debate, no vote – annual cost-of-living raise unless they specifically pass legislation rejecting or reducing it. Congress has voted to reject the automatic raise six times since then, most recently in 2007. In 2008, lawmakers accepted a $4,100 raise. So far, no legislation rejecting the 2009 COLA increase has been introduced. Plus they automatically get top of the line free health insurance while they are opposing national health care for US citizens. They are supposed to put their constituents’ interests above their own. If we don’t get a raise they shouldn’t get one either and if we don’t get free health care neither should they. Sneaky bastards!
