Republican Elected Official Defends Obama “Magic Negro” Song

December 27th, 2008

Chip Saltsman

A candidate for the Republican National Committee’s chair spot says a song he placed on a CD was meant as humor, not racism against President-elect Barack Obama. Tennessee’s Chip Saltsman claims that he borrowed “Barack the Magic Negro” – based on the children’s song “Puff the Magic Dragon” – from a segment of the Rush Limbaugh show. “I think most people recognize political satire when they see it,” Saltsman tells CNN. He sent the CD to fellow Republicans; it included other songs poking fun at Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and 2008 presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards. Obama hasn’t commented about news of the CD.

Does anyone here know that this song was recorded in March of 2007 as a retort against Al Sharpton and his effort to derail Obama?

HEY COMMONSENSE, THESE PEOPLE MAKING THESE COMMENTS ARE FAR TO LAZY TO DO THE RESEARCH,THEY WOULD RATHER MAKE RACIST COMMENTS AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE. BUT THE FIRST THING ANY OF THEM DO WHEN THEY GET SOME MONEY IS MOVE TO WHITE NEIGHBORHOODS AND WHITE SCHOOLS. LOOK AT ATHLETES AND RAPPERS , DO YOU SEE THEM STAYING AROUND YOU PEOPLE WHEN THEY GET PAID

Thank you so much, you know we some time as Americans take for granted
where we live and who we are. You make me realize how much we are admire by other country and worship by other countries. I now realize it’s a privilege for you to have us response back to you, because we are the great America, it make you feel important and that you are somebody..
You seems to spend alot of time on the american website, you know all
the domestic and local news that goes on in each american cities. You
even talk on our entertainers, like Jenifer hudson, Usher, Micheal J, etc.. Thank you for being so comsume by our culture, it’s good to know that you
think of us on a daily basic. “Oh yeah” by the way, you mention on one of your posts that you had kids, I was just curious how long did it take before your eggs hatch and how many eggs were they….

This is in response to a commenter who stated that we did not see Bush being vilified for his whiteness. I beg to differ, although I am not a fan of Bush and voted for Barack in this previous election; I was a witness for the duration of Bush’s presidency to countless ribbing on television and over radio that was directly race related. Comedians and sketch comedy shows routinely denigrated him with racially based humor, referring to him often as a “hillbilly” and “good ole’ boy”, cracking fun at everything from his southern roots to his parentally given wealth. Nothing was sacred. I’m not saying it is alright to do so, but if i had a nickel for every time that a black comedian made a comment about the former president’s skin color I would be rich. The point I am trying to make is that racially based humor is weak, based on poor material, and due to a lack of anything more creative to make a joke about. The song isn’t even funny, and you would think that a political mind would be able to come up with something more productive than a tired joke that’s been played out a million times.

You see, there they go again, always saying at the end of the ridicule “I didn’t mean it to be racist or harmful”, yeah right, he knew this was going to cause a stir. Why else would he do it. That’s O.K. though, I think Barack has a bigger chin than Jay Leno(if you know what I mean).

Unfortunately, due to the fact that racism is alive and kickin’ in this country, jokes like this will permeate politics for the next four years. Yes we did come a LONG way with electing a black president, but I hope Black Americans did not forget what country they live in. Barack will be under scrutiny and will be made fun of continuously. Any mistake he may make, no matter how slight, will be blown out of proportion, instead of people recognizing he his new. He will also be blamed for all past politicians (Bush’s) mistakes and the state of the country. That’s just how white America is. I agree, we need to toughen up our skin and move past silliness, like this song; remembering we’ve dealt with racisim and will continue to have to deal with it, but let’s focus on how far we’ve come, show pride in ourselves, and see watch how much further we will go!
