Rescuers in Haiti No Longer Finding Signs of Life

Rescuers in Haiti are no longer finding signs of life. A few days after a school building collapsed in Haiti, rescue workers are saying that they have not found any signs of life in the rubble, reports Agence France Presse. They would like to see the operation turn from search and rescue to body recovery. “We have inspected the rubble with cameras and dogs. We have unfortunately found no sign of life,” said a French medic. Rescue teams from the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and the United Nations, and teams from France, the United States and Canada, along with local police, have been working together to find survivors in the Peitionville school. They will continue to “take every precaution possible” to make sure any possible survivors are protected, he said, but finding life is “very slim” at this time. Since the three-story building collapsed on Friday, only four children have been found alive; at least 93 people were killed. About 250 to 300 people where inside the La Promesse school when it collapsed. Even though 700 students attended the school, only about half would be there at a given time since it operates in two sessions, according to the country’s Youth and Sports Minister Evans Lescouflair. Officials are investigating the cause of the tragedy and already have questioned the building’s owner, Pastor Augustin Fortain, but have not decided to charge him with anything yet. Witnesses say that he built the school without using engineers. Officials will also launch an investigation into the school’s construction. “This construction did not meet normal standards. We are going to ask the minister of education to make an inspection of all the schools built in the same way,” a Haitian senator said. “It’s a real calamity. This building was not suitable for a school,” said Justice Minister Jean-Joseph Exume.

I am a Haitian and I feel really bad for the children that were lost to this tragety. This wasn’t an act of nature that caused this…. It was greed and deception on one man’s part that caused us to lose another part of our future. A furture teacher, doctor, lawyer, president was lost in this. My heart goes out to the families and those who have to dig out the bodies of these babies. I think of my own children and how I would feel if I drove to pick them up and there was nothing to see but rubble. I don’t pray as often as I should but situations like this…my culture(Haiti)…made me Thank GOD and also ask got to help heal the wounds of the families involved.
Help! Help! is needed in Haiti — someone out there — Haiti needs your help and assistance. Please tell us, the readers, what can we do to help? There alot of families in pain and they are feeling lost because of the devastation of the school building collapse. I asked churches, NATO, Red Cross to send help to Haiti and help the people. I send my prayers to all in Haiti and I pray that Haiti’s Government Officials are on top of this situation. Excuse me…cecilenoe..what are you saying right now please do not speak on a tragedy when your writing skills are not even equivalent to that of a 2nd grader. God isn’t punishing anyone especially not a nation like Haiti or innocent kids that were simply trying to learn. This is a big sign that we must call for awareness to this social injustice. Unfortunately it always takes a tragedy to reveal a social injustice. this one dealing with poorly constructed buildings should ring a bell to all countries to continue to make sure buildings are safe for their citizens. My condolences to my people, my brothers and sisters in Haiti, for all the children lost. The children are in my prayers and no longer suffering as they are with God. It’s a tough time for Haiti but I know in my heart its always darkest before the dawn and things will get right.
Cecilenoe, first of all, nobody can understand what you’re saying. Second of all, if it was to be comprehensible it probably wouldn’t be anything good. I think you are praising Obama for his accomplishment, but you must know that Haiti was the first black country to get his independence 1804 and therefore started the revolution for all the black people across the world…needless to say Haiti helped Obama get where he is in it’s own way. If anything Haiti is and should remain blessed, you shouldn’t pass a judgement on country and the people of that country based on a few people that might’ve done wrong. Now that I schooled a little bit I shall move on.
My prayers are with the many famillies that were touch by this trajedy. May God bless their hearts and sooth their pain. Haitians across the world we must help our country first and than the international help will follow, it is our reponsibility to help.

OMG!! I didn’t know that this happened in the first place. May GOD Bless Haiti and help the touched families of this tragedy to get through their darkest times. Children are the future. It’s so sad that so many of their short-lived lives have been lost. The families and children are in MY prayers. May GOD BLESS HAITI.
