Rev. Jackson Calls For New War On Poverty
September 3rd, 2008He’s walking in the steps of LBJ and MLK, both champions of the poor

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, taking a cue from such anti-poverty crusaders as President Lyndon B. Johnson and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., says it’s time to launch a full-frontal assault on poverty. “We need to re-invest in America,” the 66-year-old civil rights leader told a crowd of nearly 300 people in Chicago during a fund-raiser for Covenant United Methodist Church. The speech attracted Democrats and Republicans, and it did not address either political party. That’s because it’s not all about politics or presidential campaigns, said Jackson, who is pushing voter registration and education. “Change has to come from the bottom up, not just the top down,” Jackson said at a news conference prior to his speech.

The change should come from with in our …”Churches”…If our Preachers get off their Lazy fat asses and work together form a collective effort and stop collecting money like little pigs and givie it bACK OR INVEST IT IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. then we would have a change !! our number one problem is giving and not seeing a return in investment in our …”Churches”.. MR Jackson What took your high payed ass so long to wake up!!!
I agree with Rev. Jackson on his statement that change starts from the bottom up. Each and every individual living in poverty or near poverty NEEDS assistance; however, they must work at it individually. Government can do all it wants, but if the people do not take advantage of opportunities, the poor will stay poor for generations on end.
Great comments Lynn!! I’m not saying Mr. Jackson is not sincere, but, he is still trying to save face from all the BS he has been tied to with the Obama campaign and he misses the spotlight! Try as he must, but MOST preachers are preaching because it’s a JOB and not a calling!! They have figured out a way to get a salary from the church and get extra love offerings for themselves. The perfect hustle!!! It’s called “legal pimping”.
After watching Reverend Jackson’s comments on TVONE directly after Senator Obama’s speech at the DNC, it was clear to me that he is besides himself with jealousy. Even Reverend Sharpton looked shocked & surprised while Jackson was speaking to the reporter. Basically Jackson was not happy with Obama’s speech & said (among other things) that the speech did not do enough to address poverty & Dr. King (a view with which I respectfully disagree). Reverend Jackson…how is an African American EVER going to win the Presidency if he goes out of his way to beat the drum for black issues TOO loudly. To be sure, Senator Obama is running to be the next President of the United States & not the next President of the NAACP. He must show that he is for the rights of ALL voters EQUALLY. Let’s give him a chance. If he wins office & does nothing…THEN, by all means criticize…but let’’s not be too hasty & cut off our hands to spite our faces.
Back to the issue at hand…jealousy…the reason why Reverend Jackson is beating the drum to end poverty now DIRECTLY AFTER the convention…but then again, there’s always positive that comes from negative intentions.
The only war on poverty that will ever work is to make sure you make all the right decisions, don’t get pregnant early, don’t use drugs and alcohol, live within your means, don’t commit any crimes, and work hard. If you do all the above you will not be poor. Stop wasting everyone’s time with this war on poverty crap. The war on poverty is up to each individual, not a government, or some Reverend.
I FEEL YOU BROTHER JESSE WE THE ONES THAT BILT THIS COUNTRY NOW ITS TIME FOR US TO GET PAID
Anything that Jesse Jackson says has one thing in common: and it’s all about Jesse Jackson. If race-baiting and causing racial division (disguised as “civil rights”) didn’t generate the finances which support his comfortable life style, he would have no choice but to get a real job (or sponge off the welfare system).
Old tired news by a phony ! Jesse and other black “leaders” should shut up ! And the fact so many blacks still listen to Jesse tells me many many blacks are foolish !! Do for self–voting will not get blacks much either !! Notice blacks will not rebuild New Orleans, Detroit, etc. And we can if truly desired–listen up Jesse, NAACP (tom organization) etc.
JAM,
I tend to disagree with you. Being a preacher is not the perfect hustle, because most hustlers get caught. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a preacher and do you consider him a hustler? Jesse Jackson has worked along side Dr. King for many years before his death. And you can’t always look at the church to uplift you. Each individual has a choice of what they want to do with their lives. We can’t always look for something or someone to solve our problems. Even in the blble it states that God take care of those who take care of themselves not the church. I once had the beliefs that you (JAM) had and realize when I became a member of a church, what I found out is a lot of churches are struggling financially. And they play an active role in helping the communities. The sad part is that the community basically take advantage of the church and only show up when the church is having a free social function. Not all churches are rolling in dough such as T.D. Jakes and Creflo Dollar ministries. Those are diamonds in the rough. Very few and far in between. To say ministers make a lot of money, my pastor don’t. He has a regular job like most pastors but most people. If you ever pick up the bible read the passage about the spiritual cake. And maybe you understand more about tithes and offerings.
Eve and p.j peackerwoods like you should br burned and sterilized maybe if you had jobs you could be more of a help to the world that your white trash lives
EXCELLENT IDEA, BUT JESSE IS JUST TRYING TO MAKE NICE AFTER THE COMMENTS HE MADE ABOUT BARACK, HES JUST A JEALOUS HATEFUL MAN, MLK DIDNT EVEN TRUST HIM, AND HE MAKES IT SEEM LIKE THEY WERE FRIENDS
This war has alreay been waged. It starts from the bottom up. The governement can’t do it all, that’s why every society has poor people in it. In a democracy you get out of it what you put into it.
here a man that can go to another coutry to try to bring peace but he can not go just 3miles from home to talk to gangleaders I AM TALKING ABOUT REAL GANGLEADERS HAVE ANYBODY NOTICE ALL THE YOUNG FURNERAL WELL IF GANGS YOUR ISSUE AND GANGS IN CHICAGO HAVE BEEN TRYING TOGO A POSTIVE ROUTE BUT NOBODYIS WANTING TO TALK TO THESE GUYS THAT WANT TO GO POSITIVE BUT JACKSON REFUSE TO TALK PERSONALLY TO THE REAL GANG LEADERS WHAT A PEACHER.

He’s a big star. I am his big fan. I saw him on a HOT WEALTHY&SEXY PERSONAL site called http://RichMatchMaking.com Seems he is hooking up with a hottie. The girl is from California. Very soft and sexy.
I DON’T THINK JESSE SHOULD BE SAYING ANOTHER WORD CONCERNING ANYTHING. AFTER THE COMMENTS HE MADE ABOUT OBAMA, I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT HE IS FAKE AND FULL OF SH**T!! IT IS HARD ENOUGH FOR OBAMA TO WIN THIS ELECTION AND THE LAST THING WE NEED IS ANOTHER WANNABE BLACK LEADER TRYING TO STILL THE SPOT LIGHT!! I HAVE LOST ALL RESPECT FOR THE MAN.
Why can’t Jesse Jackson just go somewhere and sit down.
Use the examples of the other Civil Rights leaders who worked closely with Dr. King and have now vacated the stage for a newer crop of young leaders, such as his son, Jesse Jr. who is bright and socially progressive. Jesse’s envy of Obama and outdated rhetoric is not gaining any traction so he needs to zip it up. Give the stage to other fresh voices. Can you imagine Jesse as president?
Mr. JESSE JACKSON
WE DONT LOOK AT YOU THE SAME WAY ANY MORE.
SO MR. JACKSON STOP BEING A PHONY! WE KNOW ALL ABOUT YOU.
