Rev. Jackson Wants Tougher Gun Laws
December 30th, 2008The Rev. Jesse Jackson, hoping to curtail Chicago’s rising murder rate among Black youths, is demanding stiffer gun-control laws. “We cannot just continue to mourn the deaths of our youth – our future; we must begin to march and fight for better gun laws,” Jackson said. “Chicago does not manufacture these weapons, we know where they are coming from and yet not a single gun shop has been closed.” Jackson joined Michele DeLashment, whose son, Kermit, became the city’s 500th homicide victim Monday, WBBM reports. “On Monday, someone took my son’s life. I am asking – pleading – for that someone to come forth. Turn yourself in to Rev. Jackson here at Rainbow PUSH or the police,” she said. DeLashment, 21, was the grandson of Mickey Warren, a longtime friend and associate of Rev. Jackson. The young man’s mother is a long time PUSH supporter and choir member. “We have put forth a plan that is absolutely a sure way to stop easy access to guns,” she said. “We have the power to stop putting dangerous weapons in the hands of dangerous persons, if we create and implement concrete gun laws. Illinois has not tried good gun laws, and the laws currently in place have huge loopholes.”

I wonder how many of those guns were bought legal ,maybe you should not blame the guns ,you should blame the parents that raised these thugs.
When will these people learn that you cannot legislate away crime. if you could we would be living in a crime free world. they should wake up and get to the root of the problem. the criminal that just thinks it easyer to take what he wants, dose not respect life or property.

correct me if I am wrong but I thought guns are illegal in Chicago. If so how can then get any tougher. The best thing to do is let the legal people own guns so that it makes it harder criminal to do his job.
the guns aren’t the problem it’s the criminals. impose stiffer penelties on those who use guns in crimes. i’m a law biding citizen and i have a valid concealed carry permit and i carry my firearm everywhere i’m allowed. the only place crime is high is those places that dont allow concealed carry.do some research you’ll see
Guns are not the problem, criminals are. Education is the answer. Not many people with degrees committing these crimes.
The United Kingdom now requires warnings about steak knives. Adult citizens must sign government forms to buy steak knives. Considering that this is the most recent result “to stop violent crime” in a nation that banned almost all private ownership of almost all firearms by almost all citizens, what makes Jackson think his plan will be successful when that of an entire nation wasn’t? Of course, maybe when Illinois bans steak knives, too, the Chicago steak clubs will finally fight back — but, with what?

It’s worse than that. One has to 18 years old to buy a butter knife in Great Briton.
Remember that you cant blame the black man. Its always everyone else’s fault. It is the streets and hard times and you cant blame them for that. Perhaps they should fix the corrupted government in Chicago and things will change for the best.
The corrupt Chicago and Illinois politicians don’t want their constituents armed. How could anyone blame the rest of the of the people, in the state of Illinois for Chicago’s problems. How can these gun-grabbers be so arrogant, fearful, blind and deaf?
Where is my comment?..When I wrote mime, you only had 1!..If you do not want the truth, don’t ask for it! ..That was my last and I am dropping you from my list…You guys edit you comments and that is George Bushism!
Ditto.I have lots of guns and so far none of them have come looking for me yet although I have heard that they can get a mind of their own and start murdering people. On another note…Isn’t murder already illegal? Why do these morons think that making tougher gun laws will stop someone who is about to commit the ultimate crime??
Hey guns are freedom for all and means that we take special care not to use them unjustly. The Rev. Jackson has always been anti-gun and at times anti-american, so why should all suffer because of a few out-spoken outcasts like him?
it seems there is a trend from our elected! corrupt politions that in stead of correcting the problem where it starts at home values or the lack of! parental suppervision ,home training, teaching morals ,respect ,and responsibility for their actions ,our youth of to day are thrown on the streets to learn how not any useful trades other than crime, they will find a weapon nomatter ,a handgun, knife, ect, its not the guns killing our kids, its the lack of responsibility at all stages from birth ,family values,no dicipline ,education ,and worst of all kids follow the example set around them !!!!!! if the living structure around them is crime related thats what they see as normal !!!!! its up to a very small minoratory of law abiding to clean up there area!! dont blame the guns blame the parents!!!!!
Legislation will not stop the crime spree in Chicago. Private citizens should not be deprived of their right to personal protection. Then only the criminals and the police will be armed!
