Ruby DeeActress Ruby Dee was among supporting actress nominees for her role in the 2007 film American Gangster at the 80th annual Academy Awards Sunday. Well I do agree that we stop buying bootlegged movies and support our people. Most white movie critics did pick Ms. Dee to win and the usual happened. I watched that crap just to see if she won to no avail. Also, the performace from the 11 yr old lil sister Jamia Simone Nash from the movie “August Rush” was amazing. Even the host, John Stewart pointed that out. Denzel or Don Cheadle or Jurnee Smollett not getting nominated were just white folks plain hating!

These awards do not validate the talent that our Black brothers and sisters have. God gave them their talent and it can not be taken away.

They are all winners in my mind and heart, so I thank God for them.

Keep on doing what you doing Denzel, Ruby, Forrest, Ibris, Samuel, Will, Halle, etc. your validation is in your talent and in heaven.

Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!

Someone had to give the Europeans thanks for there support on the War!

For the love of God, have any of you seen the movies that were nominated? There are some pretty amazing films and performances and not everything has to boil down to race. Do we have to make everything a numbers game, not everything is gonna perfect according to population percentages. If so then at most 2 blacks per year could get nominated in the acting catagories, and at most 1 win per year. So if we need to go by numbers then a couple statues would have to be taken away in the past decade where there were multiple black acting wins in one year.

This is why I have my own film production company and I am a partner with an independent distribution company! As long as we keep buying bootlegs and being cheap, except when it comes cars, clothes, jewlery, and sneakers, we’ll never stand a chance! It’s our own fault! But we do plan on kicking a$$ with our cinema!!!!

I also have to agree with Ted but im pretty sure that movies starring blacks were at the top of the charts somewhere along the line last year! Also when I looked at the polls for oscars, I only recall 2 blacks. Ruby Dee had the 2nd highest in her category when i checked but hey. I didnt bother watching the show anyway there were better things on, BET Honors, for example! Plus I knew many of the people being honored!

Box Office sales and bootlegs are not the problem! The crab mentality we have is the problem. The odds are always gonna be stacked against us! It’s nice to get recognized by Non-Black people, but it should be more important what we think of ourselves! We are the most beautiful and creative people. We are the most imitated culture on the planet, that should be flattering enough! The other races take care of each other. So if we stop hating, when another black person advances, and work together to help each other move forward, our community will get recognized in every aspect. Entertainment, fashion, etc. I care more about what you think of me, than a White person!

CHYNNA Said on

Box office and bootlegs are not the only problem! But if we show we don’t give a $h!T, then why should they? And by that I mean BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES—LOOK AT TULSA FOLKS, IT CAN BE DONE! HISTORY TEACHES US. I care what we all think of each other! All of us!!!! Barak for America!!

Chynna, I hear what you are saying. Blacks don’t stick together, or try to help each other. My daughter writes and is dying to be published. She has contacted Black people and to no avail. Those same Black people that turned a deaf ear are backing nothing but white people. She now says nobody better not ask her nothing when she makes it. I tell her not to be that way. Break the vicious cycle. It would be nice if we backed each other.

Precious, I can give you the info for your daughter. My partner is self-published through AuthorHouse.com. We’ll even advertise her book on the website. Shoot me an email..let’s work this out…. chynna@309CinemaProductions.com. And any events I think would be useful to her, I’ll send you that as well! Keep me posted!

Black folks, black folks,

We are the best but white folks will never acknowledge that every year. I’ve watched awards a lot and see how the white folks overlook the blacks; I’m never surprised at their behavior. White folks hates us and this is why we should get our own award shows.

When they do give out an award, they do it to keep us from “protesting”.

well, name some good black performaces, denzel has been playing the same role for the last ten years… don cheadle should of won for hotel rawanda. rudy dee was nice, but american gangster could of been way better. the movie is forgetable,at the end it turn into a buddy cop movie. it should of had us on the edge of our seats. if our black actors quite making these uncle tom movies, gets some real actor instead of rappers to play roles, by the way they do that because the only way to get black people into the theaters is to put 50 cent init. im sick of the danceing your way out of the hood movies, or a white person coming to teach us to play sports. those movies are stupid……..that tyler perry is the worst, why can’t we have a movie on the same level as a goodfellas. black movies my mom is on crack i’m living in the projects i have to rap or play basketball to get out….not all back people live in the hood, or come from mess up backgrounds, we daddies in the household, there are black people who lives on farms…..

mr.jody Said on

we as black people need to stop supporting stupid movies. the best black movies come on hbo. why can’t B.E.T make some good movies, they got that bling bling. should come up with a great story. no crackheads, babymams or using the n-word projects or eating at big mamas on sunday. Cause we love some chicken. how many black people you know went to go see last king of scottland, in the theaters, i know everybody saw those tyler perry movies…….as a people wee need to step our game up. i know four black people who saw last king………

Black people will forever be talented individuals regardless if our counterparts choses not to recognize us. I love Ruby Dee. She is a brillant actress making history for those who recognize talent. I am dissappointed she was not recognized last night at the oscar’s. People who don’t appreciate soul acting will never understand people like Ruby Dee.

A black person didn’t win an award? That be racism! What other explanation could there possibly be?

LOL you people are hilarious

I posted a comment earlier, yesterday. I was thinking about all the other comments I read before I posted mine, and all of them were very interesting, and valid. With those ideas in mind, along with my comment, I thought of a good idea for BET when I was at work. The Oscars have been boring and dull for as long as I can remember! The Grammy’s have been the same way. But in the last couple years, the Grammy’s have put on a good show, due to all of the Black Star Power on the BET Awards, and all of the White viewers of our programming, they have been forced to put more recognizable faces on the recent shows. BET should create a film based awards show. We could call it “The Sidney Awards”. Who do you think they’re named after? An academy or panel of voters should consist of past and present actors and actresses who have been overlooked at the Oscars. Anonomuosly of course! And we should make that title mean something to us. For example, winners should be annonced as…BET Academy Award winner Denzel Washington, or BET Academy Nominated Actress Ruby Dee. Let’s make what we think of each other, bigger than what a White academy thinks! Remember, a White person wins an Oscar every year! Debra lee, Stephen Hill, or whoever this concerns, PLEASE think about this idea! We have to honor ourselves! And you have been doing a great job so far! Remember what happened when we boycotted the busses? Things can change!

Kirk C. Odems Said on

GOD BLESS RUBY DEE & ESPECIALLY HER LATE HUSBAND OSSIE DAVIS, BECAUSE RUBY DEE SHOULD HAVE WON AN OSCAR YEARS AGO FOR FILMS SUCH AS “JUNGLE FEVER”. IN ANY CASE, RUBY DEE YOU ARE STILL THE GREATEST ACTRESS, & LIVING ICON WITHIN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY, & F@#K THE RACIST OSCARS!!!!!!

CHYNNA Said on

K. Young that is a FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!! I love that!! You really should send that to BET! I love that! Bravo!

Nina Said on

Mr. Jody said it best….Halle Berry won an oscar for being a dumb, broke, uneducated black women who f*cks the life outta a white dude. Denzel wins for being a dirty cop that dies at the end. Hollywood shows you how the want you to win, by degrading yourself. When we do get a full 100% sista to win, (Ruby Dee) she doesnt get it. It is a race thing, so lets stop playing and giving them the benefit of the doubt. Just because your skin is like ours (ms.berry) doesnt mean you represent us! What’s the honor in only boosting up our mixed, bi-racial black women. Can we get a positive 100% black woman, Please!! These half black women, are doing it half-a*sed! Im not hating on them, but lets not forget the ture representation of who and what we are. Blacks DO need to support each other, I know I do!

I think she did a good job playing the role of Denzels mother. I just saw the movie two days before the oscars and I thought she did a wonderful job.
