Ruby Dee Misses Out On Oscar
February 25th, 2008Academy Awards held for 80th year, but there are no Black winners this time
Actress Ruby Dee was among supporting actress nominees for her role in the 2007 film American Gangster at the 80th annual Academy Awards Sunday. But Dee, who won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for the same part, didn’t take home the statue this time. Eddie Murphy’s film Norbit was nominated for Best Achievement in Makeup, but also lost out. Among award presenters were past Best Actor winners Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker.

The absence of talented black people was a reason not to watch the clamor of white people who portrayed themselves as murderers and bandits this season. Ruby Dee deserved to win because of her longevity, and as usual the Hollywood community overlooked her.
